The reason for the 450e naming is probably because it makes similar combined (gas and electric) power to the regular 450 350-255hp/295lb-ft 450-375hp/369lb-ft 450e-255hp/295lb-ft : 381hp/479lb-ft comb 580-510hp /538lb-ft Its closest to the 450

I wish they would make it with the 6 cylinder for when you are going gas only. But then it would probably be competing with the AMG since it would have a combined 509hp and 694lb-ft (if it was to keep the non Amg 134hp/325lb-ft electric motor) If they did make an GLE AMG E-performance it would likely have less power and battery size than the 450e which is a big selling point for it, it’s 80km range! In general I would like to see Amg make phev’s with more range like 50/80km (at the slight cost of performance for every day driving) instead of the 5/10kwh batteries that they have now, and they would probably sell more of them too.

A level 2 charger (220) will charge the battery in 2.5 - 3 hrs if battery is fully discharged. It also has a DC charger port which takes about 30 minutes. Not 7 hrs as the speaker stated.

Hello Mike and Ian. Great review. I love the green on the GLE 450e. This is not Mercedes first PHEV, at least not in the US. They have a few S class models, and I own a 2018 GLE 550e. It has a Biturbo 6 cylinder that produces 436 HP and 479 lb ft of torque. Great vehicle, fun to drive, but I'd be lucky to get 20 miles on electric only. It's rated at a combined 43 mpg. I get about 35 on the highway. I'm thinking about trading this one in for the 450e. I'll miss the power, but I'd love the 50-mile range on electric only. Thanks.

BMW X5 and Audi Q7-Q8 way better as far as interior quality concerns. Merc needs to improve on that! A lot of cheap materials, poor quality leather, and creaky parts in the interior.

Did you try places like drive savers to recover the footage?

(7:00) ... you should state that your vehicle here has the AMG Exterior Trim package, which costs a bunch of money. The standard GLE 450e comes (at least in the USA) with two bars across the front grill instead of one, a black grill (as I recall) instead of a chrome one, and 19-inch wheels. Also, the Offroad "Package" is not a thing in the USA, unless you are referring to the air suspension. The "offroad" screens (in both the infotainment screen and in the driver instrument panel) are standard, without adding any options, at least in the USA. The running board is also an add-on option in the USA, and it's very horrible, frankly -- gets in the way of getting in and out of the car. Also, you should state that (ca. 11:00) lots of the stuff you point out in the cabin (like heated armrests, cooled cupholders, etc.) are expensive add-on options (in various packages that you pay extra for, at least in the USA). The panoramic glass roof is also an add-on pay-extra option (again in a "package"), at least in the USA.

You did not show us how the 7 seats look. The third row 2 seats need to be viewed too.

I looked at both the X50e and the GLE450e and passed on it for 3 reasons A) 4 banger economy vs 6 cylinder in the X50 will always be smoother more luxurious and better for passing.. B) Tech...The BMW has full hands free highway assist, no touching the wheel every 30 seconds...And the Mercedes does not C) Reliability...BMW is now ranked 2nd behind Toyota/Lexus and comes with free maintenance for 3 years D) Air suspension is standard on the X50e Lastly the HP and pickup in EV only mode is a lot better. The BMW can actually drive in EV only mode and not be as slow as a prius. The Mercedes only makes it's power with both combined so if you want to drive EV only, the Merc will be incredibly slow...

(6:00) ... I don't understand in your range test why you allowed the ICE to come on... Didn't you leave it in all-electric mode? (or did you leave it in "Hybrid" mode, which wouldn't be used for an all-electric range test?) ... also, did you put it into "D-" mode for extra regen, or aren't you aware of the "D-" mode? It sounds like you don't know how to use this car properly as a PHEV... And the all-electric range and the DC fast charging are the two most important things about the GLE 450e that set it apart from everything else "out there"; as a result, you failed in this video to properly portray this vehicle for your audience. I'll help the audience here: Kyle Conner did all-electric range testing of a GLE 450e several months ago (see Out of Spec RU-vid videos), and he got 58 miles of all-electric range at 70 mph and 68 miles of all-electric range in city driving; that is impressive, and it's significantly more than the 80 km or so that you cite.

i think any phev vechicle which has below 100mile electric only range is just a waste of timr n money ...sadly ee r not there yet ,i heard toyota is coming up with phev fortuner with 200km electric only range,i think they all need new dedicated platform for phev coz right now its all waste

(8:05 and 14:10) ... yes, Mercedes is stupid to have these long designations for their vehicles. There is no reason why they couldn't reduce this to, say, "GE4e", for example, and delete half their characters. The use by MB and BMW for these long, unwieldy designations/names is a real put-off to me (and I'm sure many others), who don't feel like struggling through their configurator to figure out differences (which isn't easy to do). Horrible PR. Some people at MB (and BMW) should be fired for coming up with these designations/names instead of using simpler designations/names that you find almost everywhere else in the auto industry.

I just took delivery of a $95,000 580 GLE SUV and was disappointed to learn that it doesn't even have a Loud Exhaust mode. Considering it has a 510 HP V-8 engine you would have thought Mercedes would have put that in it. The other thing I would mention is Mercedes needs to go back to WHEEL SCHOOL as their wheels and their choices are just simply NOT GOOD. Most of them are actually ugly.
