You know what the car might be great. But the prices are soooo much in india comparing it with the US price with destination charges too.. too bad .. better go with the x5 at the very least

If you're a driving enthusiast X5 is a way better option but in this budget in India these cars are chauffeur driven so owners wants luxury and comfort which I guess Merc is slightly better.
X5 has no rear seat room. And ride quality is horrible. Unless you are a midget like most Indians and drive yourself, X5 in India is not worth it. Get the Q8 instead. I am 6'5 and wife is 6 and our kids are taller. So we fit ok in q8 and GLE.

Even though BMW is a driving machine what would you drive on Indian roads with potholes and uneeven speed breakers. I would rather choose chuaffer driven cars over driving experience on Indian roads.

2 years ago you could get GLS 400d at the price of GLE 450d. well at 1.37cr it makes more sense to get defender 110 HSE 3.0 at 1.4cr or 2.0 X-Dynamic at 1.2cr if you need more features over performance.
I had a Mercedes GLS. It worked great until 65000 miles when the first problem started with the chair massage function. It cost me $2000 to replace a $120 tube. The second problem was around 75000 miles when the engine stopped working all of a sudden and the dealership said these types of engines die at around 75k to 100k miles due to a bad lining chemical. The cost to replace the engine was $35000 which I didn'tdo because you can only buy similar engines. Btw the dealership (both associates and the manager) kept recommending to sell the car to an unsuspecting buyer which is unethical on another level. The only honest thing they said was recommending not to buy Mercedes anymore because of their issues. They said they themselves drive japanese cars!
Why do you guys want a big huge suv which people buy for comfort to drive like a sport suv…. Guys c’mon. You reviewers have made all SUVs ride harsh for the sake of being sporty. If someone wants something sporty they will go for a sedan or there are sport oriented SUVs out there. So don’t try to complain and say family SUVs are not sporty

The new steering is awesome. It takes 10 mins as such to get used to touch kind of buttons. It works very well but in the end, its all about personal preference.
Switching drive mode is quite tedious. Especially when you are driving on ghar sections you need to switch to sports back & forth to make a quick overtake but it is very tedious affair!!
I don't this the cars you mentioned comes at that price. All these cars costs more than 75L on road. Instead of buying demo car you can go for a segment less new car.

And was in talk with a Mercedes c class last model also in 45 onroad (2000 km preowned ) ...but will surely write to autocar and will take more suggestions as I don't change car regularly (driving my car Elantra since last 10 years ) .
I did not mentioned a lot of features that X5 and gle offer which velar doesn’t have. Worst decision of jlr to keep a 2l engine only for a car that’s more than 1cr.
You know once a legend said "who buy lambo they don't see the advertisement" but they surely watch Autocar reviews. I know someone owning R8 said the same. As always excellent detailed review. Owning Scorpio; GLE is one of my dream for sure.
Toyota themselves never try justifying the price of a Fortuner, and Mercedes-Benz tries justifying the increased prices by saying the GLE has the highest residual value, brilliant MB India 😂😂😂
It is just waste on money to spend more than 1 crore on a GLE, indian public must stop buying Mercedes cars as they are over price and Mercedes has become common now a days
Interesting. The defender does not really have an equivalent vehicle in this size. The 110 is smaller and compares with the X3 and GLC whereas the 130 is in the GLS /X7 space.
There is a reason they put that ' old ' interior there buddy. Apparently sensible people started to realise how hideous and unnecessary it is to cover the entire car with screens like floor tiles in a car. You think modern car exterior and interior designs are cool and better that designs from 2010-20 time periods ? 🤣 Most current futuoritsick 😷 designs are very bad. They make no sense. None of the lines and curves are purposeful. People are forced in to belive it's very cool. But it isn't
Pre facelift looked better with fibre wheel arches, better looking steering and headlamps , with the silent update it had all these features except wireless carplay, it carried ex showroom 85L in Jan 2023, and people comparing defender as a Suv of higer class , it comes for 1.10 cr Banglore for 110 HSE P300 , only 130 variants are costlier, moreover that isnt a luxury vehicle as such.
The GLE sure is a great car but it’s really disheartening to see how much of a premium Indian customers end up paying! The E class of SUVs indeed. Literally and figuratively. Great car overall but the X5 and XC90 are a notch above.
Not really. I bought the GLE after exhaustive search and comparison. I am an ex bmw owner (X3) and was dissapointed, i have given my points as a buyer above in one of the comments. The XC90 - seriously? Its still in second gen and is 9+ years old design!!
