The Nexon diesel is a pleasurable car to drive with good fuel efficiency. It has great stability and seems planted on the road. I also have Seltos diesel where I don’t feel the same kind of driving experience. That being said the sheet metal quality is shit, it starts rusting even on the bonnet which is really surprising as water will flow down and unlikely to remain stagnant there, its sheet metal quality is like the good old Ambassador and Premier Padmini cars. I don’t find this kind of rusting in any other car in the Indian market except for Mahindra vehicles which also have similar problems. Their IT infrastructure and systems are also very poor and the service centre guys do not know how to handle them. A thorough upgradation of skills at the service centres should be taken up on priority, their skills are limited to servicing Indica cars only mainly used by Taxi drivers. They are providing top of the line features in recent times and the service center guys don’t have a clue if something malicious functions. Tata uses Tata Steel for their body panels which is manufactured by their own sister concern, they have to pay special attention towards the quality of steel supplied to them and also improve a lot on the fit and finish of their cars. Of course they also have minor niggles here and there which reflects on the quality control of their workmanship. They are of course improving over the years but a paradigm shift is the need of the hour.
And this is why Indian companies irrespective of any field very rarely can contest any foreign brands! Almost all the main tooling, casting, robots, Software, Hardware, Sub- components are of foreign origins & We wonder why can't Indian companies compete on global scale? No innovation, no drive to make local tooling, casting etc... tools & machines in India. And people think How Koreans; Hyundai/KIA went from Zero to Hero? Most of their components are co-developed with others or they buyout the companies, indulge with their local companies, Hyundai is industrial powerhouse, makes own steel, plastics, moulding machines, robots, ovens for Industrial use etc.... thats why they are where they are. Same for European brands!
This used to be Ford's factory hence the international standard, nexon started producing here recently, if u already own a nexon its less likely from here. But that fit finish and quality issue of the components are due to the lack of proper post production inspection, which will only be solved if the company actually cares about it
Finally some great insights and thanks again for the podcast, can you take up on why not many plug in hybrids in India and what’s the road map like if any ? Thanks
So many robots , so many technologies... But what is the use ? Everhly tata cars comes with a defect ... Every friend of mine who has bought nexon or safari or harrier has one or the other defect ... Only good thing about tata is their body .. it has a strong body ... But the rest of it has one or the other defect
Great session as usual. Have become a fan of these podcasts. Great to see a session on engines when the decision is more and more driven by features and safety stars..
Force could make the 5 Door Gurkha a proper 5 seater SUV making the 2nd row seats much more comfortable. And also in turn reducing the height of the roof, especially the rear roof without having to worry for the rear 3rd row seats (which won't exist considering it will be a 5 seater). TBH the front and side profile of the SUV looks great but the rear profile looks quite odd and out of place with the high roof.
Hope Nexon is not out of 3XO fever🥵. I'm a proud owner of 2 tata cars but with the way Mahindra launched it 3XO and made Tata to revise Nexon's price was commendable. Healthy competition is always good to avoid monopoly ❤
What about Quality checks??? Except build quality nothing is impressive in tata cars👎🏻👎🏻. Now they relaunched their new range of nexon, safaris & harrier with all the tech that is very glitchy and has soo many errors.
