Adventure & Archaeology... In this 'ol video, I hit a granite quarry that was worked from 1897 to 1911. The goal is find a pit of antique bottles that the works may have used and dig up as many relics as possible. Feathers and wedges seem to be the most common find here and were a necessary tool for splitting granite blocks. Enjoy ! ~ TBD

Truly enjoyed this adventure. Such physical work pounding the wedges in and removal of the stone. Nice spike and the file you found.👍👏😀

I enjoyed the investigation. Very interesting place. That's some very hard primitive work for sure. Wow! Stonecutters. Let's get her done. Cheers!

Hello Kevin. Awesome video and finds. Even though you didn't find bottles, metal relics are nice finds to. A lot of Granite Quarries used railroad tracks to move the granite. There seems to be enough metal evidence to say the had some kind of railway there. Rails and some track spikes you found. Maybe you will find some bottles at the next location. Hope you are doing well and happy hunting to you. Take care, ---Jeffrey Hull Jr. (Jeff & son Lew)

Been there done that with the thick tree roots. LOL ! Yes they sure worked hard breaking that granite. Don't believe I would have even lasted a day at that job. LOL ! Learned some new facts about the tools and method they employed to quarry the rock back in the day. Great job Kevin ! Cool spot and enjoyed the explore Kevin. Have a great weekend and cheers my friend !

Nice hunt - well done! The rail section was intriguing. I dug a foot long section this spring from the 1860's. I was going to sell it but it is so handy as a small anvil I decided to keep it. The really old rail stuff is getting hard to find and can be very collectible. The rails I have found were early 50 to 60 pounds per yard . Sometimes you will dig the rail anchors or clips. These are high quality spring steel and make excellent knife blades.

Really enjoyed this different kind of exploration of a unique pioneer site...I'm sure there's quality bottles hiding in the vicinity, probably more liquor and beer than pop.Sometimes in those days hard working meant occasional hard drinking to deal with the boredom and isolation in the various camps, eg. logging, mining, etc.Their original site has to be close by, especially where reliable water is.

Might want to go back and take a better look at that rail. If it's U-rail (hard to tell on the video) it can be worth a good chunk of change to rail collectors. Looks like it could be narrow gauged U-rail. You don't come across that stuff often at all... Way older then 1890's, so either that sites even older or it just looks the part from the angle....
