@@darinz7182 You can control the race location though... That isn't a location exactly known for good sailing conditions. It was chosen as a race location for the money, not the racing quality (much like the Formula 1 race in Abu Dhabi).
For so many more reasons than you might think...shoving women sailors and eco-climate-change BS down our throats as well as awful locations for racing is just cringe...good to see that, like the AC, it's kiwis vs the diggers...a timeless tradition 😁 Slingers and Outridge on team NZ for the AC
@@JoshWright396 the boats were foiling before and after the racing in ~8 knots windspeed with the 29m wingsail. The average wind conditions in January is 12 knots. More than enough.
The end of race 2 was amazing but most of it was missed by close ups and lingering on boats that have crossed the line. Finished boats are irrelevant. Close ups are without context - and pointless. Please show the actual racing.
It’s a real shame that the financial model required to make Sail GP successful and sustainable appears to result in the world’s best sailors sailing in venues, conditions and formats that showcase the sport so poorly.
i was windsurfing professionally for 10y and from experience I can tell you that you cant buy wind with money. Even when you plan your events in the best places in the world where always has been windy.. life has a shown it is not always windy. but if the avarage event locations are in not windy locations by nature then it is a bad trend.. so far i really enjoy this series and light winds dont seem to be dominating.. would love to see some data not foiling vs foiling races count.. love the format and would love to sail on boards one of these!
What a total Muppet show! Why don’t they take SAILGP to decent venues for sailing? They must be paying these crews stupid money for them to put up with this $hit.
it sure would be nice if they just left the camera on the overhead view so you could watch the race develop - rather than zoomin into a close up all the time jus when something important happens so you kinda miss it - just sayin
Race 3. 3 minutes to start the racing has begun. Don't you know that? We don't want interviews with busy captains or with onshore teams. Let's see the racing.
@@davemartin6894 so true these inner city courses are designed for spectators to be seen at an event why don’t we just put them on a boat out on the course just like Americas cup.
I thought what is that guy……. Wow, they need to cut away, which they did, then cut back to it. At least he only shook it once, if not I’d accuse him of playing with it for the camera. 😂
Just un-watchable. Like running Formula 1 in a car park. Really sad, great boats, great sailors, absolutely ridiculous venue and course. God knows what carnage there would have been with any breeze. 😞
These big foiling cats with huge sails look a bit silly sailing around that pond in slow motion. Shame we have locations like this, not much of a race after the first mark
Tactical battles??? Starting is everything unfortunately based on a lot of luck. GP always located at spots with money but without winds. Very disappointing.
In keeping with some of the other comments, be aware that the first 30+ minutes of this video is talking about the race, then an excruciatingly slow race in conditions that would cause any other PRO to postpone. Listening to the commentary is also insulting. Quit trying to make this event accessible to folks that don’t know anything about sailing.
Pond racing. Strangest course layout ever. Way to short of a starting box. No graphic of starting clock countdown- wtf. Slalom course racing? Abu Dhabi SC & SailGP wanted to put on a good show- and they failed miserably. This is what you came up with- to showcase the sport? U can't control the wind, but this in harbor racing is becoming boring to watch. I love sailing & racing, but some people at SAILGP need to rethink their strategy for venue locations. Knots for speed when sailing, not kilometers. I hope this year's AC racing is better. SailGP is slowing down, their target audience is becoming less interested in the sport. Show for the shore crowds only. Bigger courses, more freedom for speed runs to the starting line. U have these F1 boats, on go-kart like tracks.
What a naff race course. Start picking race courses based on wind not spectators. Also shuttling boats back towards the spectators - might be nice for the people sitting there, but it locks in the leaders and reduces the passing lanes. SailGP - you’re heading in the wrong direction. Good racing needs to be your priority. 😢
Aside from most of the comments, light winds are just as exciting. So the boats are not blasting through the water, the racing is still the same. A clock at the start should be shown so viewers can see how close the boats are to the start line.
So often it's more like SnailGP. Always having to have the course near to shore does not help. How about move more of shore and spectators on viewing boats?
I'm a little nervous about this being the site of the Grand Finals for the foreseeable future. I understand that it takes skill to sail in whatever condition, but it is just not as exciting to watch without wind. Foiling is their brand. San Francisco has been so exciting. This does not make for great viewing.
Light winds harmed the show yes, but… the first third of the course was a drag race with few tactical options, add in pretty poor TV direction too. Too few graphics in the first race, no countdown to the start, cutting away to the umpire randomly, not broadcasting any umpiring audio… this is the worst I’ve seen in two years of watching. Also very obviously under-supported compared to other venues, this is what happens when you put oil greenwashing money ahead of the sport.
I figured there'd be enough money there to line the shore with enormous banks of high speed fans. C'mon Abu Dhabi, buy some wind! And interesting in race 3 to see Germany learned their lesson about barging.
really looked forward to watching this but this venue is crap if thats all the wind they can expect not even a second of foiling in 2 days of racing loosing fans if venues like this are used even if thats where the money is
These race announcers really need to dial it back. A lot. And this year there is so much distracting tv graphics the boats might as well be computer graphics as well. They are quickly ruining this sport for television.
Thirst for cash ruining this great competition...Sad to watch...if we want regular displacement racing, then huge cats on small tracks is not the racing one would choose. You can't control the wind..EXCEPT by picking places that typically have some. This is boring for all but the most avid sailors...no longer fit for purpose.
So... 4 years in, 170k subs. I watch bad hobby machinists with more. And nothing has changed to fix the obvious glaring problems in 3 years. I don't get it
