I was there watching from the shore. It was the busiest I've seen it on the harbour. Always irresponsible people on the water. One jerk even raised his sails through the exclusion zone. The police were present on jetskis but the sheer amount of boats was hard for them to muster. Problem is the big cruise ships with fat cats who paid $250 for a 3 course meal to get close to the action. Add in the ferries and private boats, looked like an angry ants nest of activity.
I love how in the first race everyone watching must've been like "Oh what a steal, FRA is so lucky..." and then they proceed to absolutely dominate the other races with pure skill
Another superb day's racing entertainment, plus a much much better - shorter and more sport orientated - pre-race show imo. Enjoyed every minute. Fabulous!
English grinder lost his helmet while being battered under the boat, against the hull, close to the foil at 30kt boat speed could have been deadly. Need to ensure the helmets are not getting away at least. Good luck for him for recovery of this scary moment.😮🤞🏼 1:07:41
They should have the trampoline extend under the Mylar fairing to stop him faking thru in the first place! I understand having no walking zones but that does not apply to running on a boat doing 40+ knts on foils!
They need a wrap for the end plate effect but some cables to stop a person from falling though might be a good idea. Looks like the safety tether might have saved his life
The helmet would've probably had too much drag in the water and done bad things to his spine, and I don't think it's too useful against foils. If anything I would say he's lucky his helmet went off
That was pretty awesome racing. Imagine though, if spectators at an F1 race, were pulling their own cars onto the track to watch the race, and race control said meh! Not a good look and potentially deadly out ramifications.
You should look up Group B rallye. Spectators would literally stand in the middle of the track and get away at the last second, trying to touch the cars. The cars would literally finish the race with fingers still attached to them.
I really like the work you do to bring high quality to presenting the races! France wins 3 of 3 and not a single interview!! 🙄 Un faux pas! What was the problem? No cameras on board?
38:21 there's a GBR support boat coming alongside and a support crew briefly boards the F50. How is that allowed during the race? Shouldn't they be disqualified?
Bring back the Superfoilers !! More mobile , more personal ,less personnel, less expense ! A bit cranky but never entirely refined , or defined . Given that they were blown away by Ellison it'd be a nice flip . Ironic! Bring 'em back! Superfoilers!!!
Why are you carrying so little footage of the LEQ12? The majority of the footage day after day seems to be of the AC40. Given that the AC40 is one design and the same for all challengers there is little value in showing me footage of the AC40. However what is certainly interest is seeing them line up against each other. The LEQ12 looks lethal. Quicker than the AC40 but with less sail area? The main sail looks a different profile for sure. Given that the recon footage is supposed to be impartial I'm disappointed by the lack of LEQ12 footage provided by the defender. Time for a new recon team? The contract shouldn't be just of right. Giz a go.
35 km/h winds means nothing to me? I live in the USA so totally familiar with MPH and I"ve sailed enough to have a good feel for Knots.... but I need to ask google for the conversion km/h
USA is the only country on earth (with myanmar and liberia) to live in the non science language. They could talk with knots, but sailing has to be popular in the world, and that's the Internatinal syst of units. If not Reagan you would be in that system. So as USA is 4% of world's population is fair game to have 4% of people asking for conversion and 96% not to do it.
@@ericmarie2089 For a fleet/organization that likes to brag about how fast their going, it might be best to brag about speed in units that everyone understands. I guess I assumed sail GP was based in the US (as they are heavily sponsored by oracle) and using units that are comprehensible by sailors in the US (even if they are brought to you be "old money") might be helpful?
@@Tyranastrasza just to be clear, I'm not asking for (statute)MPH - that's a useless number for a boat. Knots and nautical miles are used the world around to measure distances and speed of vessels that move through a fluid, or navigate globally including essentially all Boats, and Aircraft. The definition is an ISO standard and has been adopted woldwide by the ICAO, weather forecasters, and most importantantly, sailors.
Team Switzerland always seems content to be last or second to last. For a country that gave the World Alinghi, this is nothing short of embarrassing! It should be barred from competing in SailGP next season.
Team Canada need to have Phil walk the plank. He cannot start a race any higher then 5th place, the other teams bully him around knowing Phil will back off. Phil looses position every time he approaches the gates and what's worse is Phil goes off script in open water and out sailed buy almost everyone. I'm getting tired of the fifth and 6th place finishes. Going from 1st to 7th by Phil's bad decisions is so depressing for Team Canada fans back home. In the early part of this season, Canada could have a top 5 place in their first season. Then, other teams improved and Canada is heading towards the bottom of the Marianna's Trench. The off season decisions that need to be made all start with building a team around a new captain. Phil showed the team the basics to Sail GP racing, Now it's time to find someone who can get the boat to the finish line first a little more often then two or three times a season.
The Canadians are a new team and many of its members are completely new to this event/format. Phil has been very good at the starts in most of the races and he won the third one. I would say they got cheated with the boundary penalty in race 3 (the French got hit with it in Race 2) but they did make some rookie mistakes. You don't get rid of the best member of the team because the team was showing it is still learning. Watch out for them in NZ.
Yeah SailGP are so woke, they're gonna do themselves out of business and I hope they do. The very fact they think women need special treatment in a performance based sport says it all.
Sorry... no. He's VERY good at the starts and Team Canada just needs more practice to get the boat more stable. This was a brand new boat to them (look at the struggles New Zealand had with Canada's old boat. Robertson did better than probably the best skipper in the world (Burling).
