i hope they do a android auto/carplay for the phone connection in the future and just show the navigation on the screen so i don't have to mount my phone on the bike
I'm a fortnight off receiving mine (interstate dealership). It was a nightmare finding a new 40th anniversary SE (so many dealers took my deposit and not one came through so+$1100 postage and i found my bike lol
Nice! I think you will love it. Touring is definitely doable on this bike. Not uncomfortable at all and they even put on some hooks on the bike for straps and bags. The stock exhaust doesn't drone at all and the suspension is not too stiff. Plus the fuel economy is hilariously good. It may not look like it but I think it would be a great tourer.
@philp7012 that's the plan a top case rest foe the gf and decent set of saddle bags. I live in Florida and a ride down the gulf coast to the keys is my first trip. I'm a daily rider no matter the weather. Bike life!
I’m coming up on 1000 miles on mine and plan on long distance rides this summer. It’s very comfortable at 75+ with plenty of power left. The larger SE windshield is nice.
Can I ask which model of screen protector you bought? I am looking on the Speedo Angels website, since I can't get the protector on Amazon where I live, but I don't see one listed as compatible for the Ninja 500 SE. It looks like the closest match is for the Z500 SE, is that what you got?
Great video, you basically reinforced my decision to go with this exact model of bike. Do you happen to know if I could have my key (kipass) in my backpack, will it still work? I plan on having a camelback as my riding bag, I assume it will work but that is the only real question I still have after your video. Thank you!
It should still work. You may have to lean the bag towards the ignition area to start it and then you could keep the key anywhere. But I think it would still recognize it in a backpack.
The Ninja 500 is definitely a great value but the ZX4rr is a totally different beast. It's much more focused and a totally unique engine. They look and feel much more different in person. I'd say if money is not really a concern I would go for the ZX4. But if you're thinking of moving on in a year or two anyway than the 500. Can't really go wrong either way but the ZX4 would be a bike I'd buy and keep forever.
I was wondering about the cowling in the back. If you replace the cowling for the passenger seat do you have to remove the cowling bracket? I’d really appreciate your confirmation.
So it only comes on the SE models. You won't be able to have an SE without the kipass. You'd have to basically buy the base model and buy all the accessories to make it an SE but then it wouldn't have the TFT. I have had no problems with kipass so far.
There's some mid range rpm vibration typical of a twin but it's much better than a single. Not bad I'd say. The seat is pretty comfortable, I've gone on a ride for 3 hours and had no complaints.
The 500 has a different shaped seat apparently. I don't get that feeling at all really. I'm over 6 feet and don't even feel cramped in it. The seat could be a little softer but they do sell an accessory one.
Yes the bike came with the passenger seat on, I changed it over at the dealer before I left. There should be a little metal tab that bolts into the catch for the seat, this is how the cowl clips in. It came in a little plastic bag with the seat cowl. They may have forgotten the metal clip and bolt it came with.
Even without the battery if you hold the key to the ignition it will recognize the signal and still start the bike. That's also how the spare key works.
Dude I was turning the keyless system while I held it pressed down and for 30 minutes I could not figure it out 😂 I gotta repay Marty it'll feel good to do that.
I'm just trying to figure out how that screen would ever get scratched? I have the same bike, I just don't see how you'd ever get a scratch on that screen?
You'd think that (I did until I noticed a scratch on my screen. Fk knows how it got there). I'm going to try to get a screen protector this time around lol
I want the black one but they don't have any black se abs ones, just abs. I want the se because of the screen, drop cage, and taller windscreen. You guys think i should just get the 500 abs and manually install those things or just get an se models
I think if the screen is important to you then it would have to be the SE but if you could live without it id save the money and put it towards the mods you want. The important thing is that it's the same bike otherwise underneath.
I think the only clear coated decals are on the tank itself. Everything else should be removable as far as I can tell. Then it should be pearl white underneath.
When you turn the ignition on you should see a Bluetooth icon flashing at the bottom of the screen, that means it's trying to pair. Then you can go to the Bluetooth pairing in your phone and you should be able to find it under new devices. With the pin you should be able to connect. Hope that works.
