They sure don't seem to care much about their sports car segment anymore. This Z is still a parts bin of 350z and 370z components, and still basically on the same chassis. How old is that R35 GTR now? 17 years old? All they do is change out the bumpers every few years... sad.

If they slapped a really well tuned DCT and made this into a mini GTR, this would be a hit. Of course, add a manual transmission option to the Nismo as well. I can't believe they missed that...

It's insane how rare these are. Around the SF Bay Area I've seen a few dozen AMG GTs, plenty of supra, a few dozen C8s, a half dozen McLarens, a Lamborghini huracan sterato, too many G-Wagons, and a Hummer EV. But I only saw a Nissan "400Z" once on a road trip, down in Irvine.

Cayman 65k? Where? Dark Horse Mustang is not worth it. It's not a special edition mustang. It's basically a SS1LE package (not even) for 75k. Supra is ugly. This is the top performance Nissan Z.

@@yohazem1 Yeah, a stripped-out base Cayman can technically be had in the $60k's, but no one is doing that. Maybe a used one. I do think the Supra is the most compelling alternative to the Z. They are extremely close in terms of the overall package you are getting. Two-seater, front-engine, rear-drive, and turbo six-cylinder engine are all things you can say about both. The pricing is somewhat close as well. However, even the auto Supra has a GOOD auto and is just as fast in a straight line as the Z Nismo. Not saying this isn't a good car, so please put the pitchfork down. I actually think the Nismo is the most interesting version of the Z - and it looks amazing on the outside. And, in 2024, a new car that sounds this good is rare. But, if it was my money, I'd have a hard time justifying the extra cash for the Nismo. Then again, I also wouldn't be interested in the base model Z when the Supra, for the same money, is more capable.

The slush-box normal behavior is acceptable in a car like my IS 500, which is a sedan and is tuned to be daily-drivable. It's not a performance-branded two-seater like this. And even then, I feel like this 9-speed makes the 8-speed in my car, which is constantly criticized in reviews, look pretty good in comparison. At least the drive modes do something in the Lexus, and it fires off 0.1-second shifts in manual mode. This new 9-speed, by comparison, seems a bit lazier in its shifting and has even worse delay from the paddles than the Aisin (which, by the way, is over a decade old!). That said, the rest of this car seems to improve everything, just about, compared to the base Z. Many have claimed the base Z is ostensibly a grand tourer, with its softer ride and overall relaxed demeanor - this one seems to be much firmer and performance-oriented. It sounds better, too - I think few would argue against that. It is too bad that you can't have this exhaust from the factory with the manual. Maybe, sans markups, this could be worth it. Perhaps the aftermarket will swoop in to provide a transmission tune and fix that aspect of it.

Sports cars need a physical gear lever selector, not a push button unit. It would also be nice if Nissan offered an option of having a gauge cluster with physical analog needle dials (old school). Cars are becoming too much like computers with wheels.

although it is a 9 speed auto. i am still have they kept a manual handbrake. probably the only manufacturer to still do this combo, and the 9 speed auto is not the worst. do still wish a manual was available, especially on the nismo, but at least you can still handbrake turn :)

If it was 50k…it would be forgivable. If the sport pack was around 40k it’d be a steal in today’s market. But man…65k before stealerships is nuts. Used C7s, Camaro SS 1LE, Supra etc… Granted it’s nowhere near as fast and it is less practical…but you could get a soft top ND3 recaro pack AND another car for the same price as this nismo lol. I’ve seen a few Zs in person and they are a gorgeous design…but if I was spending 40-50k on a single car I’d get another SS 1LE. I can’t get over a bad automatic in a sports car. Even a crappy manual is more fun than a bad auto. This makes the Lexus RCF almost look like a DCT 😂

A Z Nismo NEEDS a manual. If you make it an auto only, you immediately alienate the core audience who would want a car like this. If it's auto only you open it up to all the automatic competition. But if you give it a manual option, you give it a much smaller market. Not even the Supra has a performance trim manual option yet! Nissan flopped so hard with this car by making it auto only

It’s crazy how this doesn’t like to downshift for you in a corner but a Mazda CX3 in sport mode will downshift wonderfully going into turns and it’s an econo suv for a fraction of the cost lol. Nissan needs to just give up on sports cars imo.

Notice how, a few seconds after they go into that corner, the car started down-shifting automagically. It's probably a situation similar to in my IS 500, where the car has to recognize that you are driving aggressively and THEN starts working as you want. But, even then... in my car, if I go to Sport S+, it'll drop the transmission a couple gears right away lol. Nissan could have done more with it. I suspect that, if I owned this car, I'd be in manual mode most of the time on back roads.

M2 is kinda the opposite way to the Z. Very powerful motor and responsive gearbox, but looks hideous and very heavy.

@@vvevvevvvv I’ve driven both they both feel like more agile gran tourers if you’re comparing the new ones… but I do have the older m2 which no way you’re saying ugly
