The live show rebroadcast can be found here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x0S-hSEb-0w.html The waiting period in the video is incorrect and is actually July 27th - August 5th, not August 8th.

Thankfully entry into the Olympics isn't a corrupt popularity draw like the WSL. Yes we don't all think Kelly should get an entry pass into main events for the rest of his life. Jack Robo for the win!
It could happen. Leo is legit. There’s always ‘upsets’ in the Olympics although Leo is not exactly an underdog. He was in the Semis in the Tahiti Pro in similar conditions in the forecast. Let’s see..
I will be interested to see how the two Portuguese women do. They must be totally stoked to be there, instead of the guys, any sane person is going to respect that wave but there is big surf in Portugal (not just Nazaré). I'm not expecting medals but I hope they get a fair creac.
I've always heard it pronounced "Choapuu", rhymes with hope, locals also say "Chopes". Pretty sure of this because I once asked Michel Bourez (Tahitian pro) about it! Am I wrong?
Bagus Bos 👍🏻 Hoping for massive waves , then the worthy Gladiators will wear the crown , deemed by Zeus as he watches from Mt Olympus. Once in a lifetime , one shot , one opportunity as someone once coined … OSD again benchmark vid 🎥 🙏🏻
I said John John is a medal favorite and you have to agree that’s true. In the Live Show I picked Gabriel Medina to win gold though. I call it like I see it. ru-vid.comx0S-hSEb-0w?si=cLFt8FMyhX3QcRe_
Uncertain how they decide the seeding, given the different trials at semi reef waves over such a prolonged period, but it will heavily favour those with experience.
The kid can surf. He's had a few articles written about him. He's a darkhorse, an underdog. I just can't talk about him in the same breath as some of the top pros who a lot more experience and are solid competitive performers at Teahupoo. The Olympics often has upsets, but I wouldn't bet money on Tim Elter. (Wow, this sounds like someone should bet money on Tim Elter Lol)
I understand this. Progress and exploitation often go hand in hand. Am I guilty of contributing? Maybe, probably, Are we all guilty to some extent. Hmm🤔
Thanks for your question! No tow in- paddle only in the Olympics and professional Championship tour surfing. Probably won’t be big enough for tow any way, but wondering what they would do if it was 🤔
He is an excellent surfer. With limited Teahupoo experience and mostly rights on his resume I'd say he is an underdog. He's a great guy and I would love to see him do well.
@@KaiKaiBrown. Nice! I think Carissa is surprisingly underrated. I may pick them if the surf is right. Let's look at the forecast in a few more days...
JJF is one of four favorites I picked. He was runner up in the recent Tahiti Pro and is currently number one in the world. So, yeh, definitely a favorite along with Gabriel Medina, Jack Robinson and Kauli Vaast.
@@OldSurfDad agreed!!! IMHO Gabe, JJF, Italo(despite nobody is betting on him), Colapinto and João Chianca. That’s my pick sorted by probability to win. At the last Teahupoo Gabe and Italo tube riding was next level, so behind the peak like never before at that wave.
If Surfing wants to be in the Olympics, and if the host city is not on the coast, just why the f--- dont they build a surf pool?! Its ridiculous, with all the sponsorship money involved. The pool in Paris would be a win win situation, now and in the future. A surf pool would mean equal conditions for everyone in the comp, major audiences, safety for the surfers (Teahupoo is not a gentle wave...), the possibility for athletes to be a part of the event in the Olympic Village, an audience at the venue... Just imagine if a long jump athlete had to run on an uneven surface, while his opponent ran on a smooth track. Thats what happens with the random factor of a surf comp in the ocean. This way, you can call it the Olympics, but its just another contest. Ridiculous.
I’m torn on this one. For the Olympics it makes sense, but having an ocean involved in surfing feels right. I actually make an argument for wave pools in our live show here: ru-vid.comx0S-hSEb-0w?si=aQ618JnND4vAf1sU
@@OldSurfDad I am not defending that ALL surf comps should be held in wave pools, just that the Olympic spirit is one of equal chances for everyone, just think of gymnastics, the only differential factor is the performance of the athlete. It's all in his hands, or feet in this case... The canvas is exactly similar for everyone.
@@pteronadon I agree. I made the comparison to snowboarding and how the half pipe is carved into the mountain and allows a consistent playing field for all athletes. I think the future of Olympic sports will be wave pools and the professional tours will eventually develop around them with natural waves being more show up during a swell Nathan Florence style. How cool would that be? A little spice for eveyone.
Not a fan of this site for an Olympics surfing competition. After all it’s just a big drop, a turn and tube….which you either make or don’t. Doesn’t cover all the surfing skills which I thought might be a prerequisite for a medal.
yeh, it will change a lot in the next few days and slowly tighten up to a more accurate forecast. Updates on the website starting next week at OldSurfDad.com
