We first drove the Peugeot E208 when it was launched 4 years ago. Now a revised model has been launched with improved specifications, more power, a bigger battery and more range. So does it impress as much in 2024 as it did originally? Well, as you will see, it has a lot going for it. However......

Stellantis (and former PSA) CEO went for high margins since he arrived. That meant reducing costs in new developments and reuse old platforms with outdated technology and outdated security, then add a premium look and feel in and out to the cars and price them accordingly to that premium look. And it worked so well for them that they don't seem willing to change their strategy. Let's see for how much longer they can get customers to pay so much for products that are made with the smallest investment on their part. For now I'm glad that at least some reviewers are telling things how they are. Good review, thanks.

They are fantasy prices - no one pays them. Go on-line and you’ll see discounts up to £10,000 for these and easily £5,000 for any spec. They aren’t making high margins on these, probably no profit at all. Stellantis do this across all their brands.
@Alberto-mq7gw

@@ISuperTed All brands have discounts. It doesn't change the fact I stated above. Just check the profits from PSA in the 8 years (2006-2013) prior to the arrival of Tavares as CEO and the 8 years after his arrival on 2014. How did he do it? To quote Wikipedia: "Tavares became CEO and chairman of the managing board of Groupe PSA in 2014, replacing Philippe Varin. During his tenure, he spearheaded cost-cutting measures and increased the company's market share in China, which returned Groupe PSA back to profitability after several years of losses. [...] As CEO, he gathered praise for the PSA take over of Opel and return to profitability of Opel, and for PSA's record sales and profits." And check Euroncap crash test results in these years for their products, or the infotainment systems they've had. But then compare how their products look and feel outside and inside. Premium clothes over cheap base, at above mainstream prices.

@@ISuperTed Yep I got a big discount, outrageously high trade in for an old Citroen, free extras like paint and wallbox and the French subsidy that you won't get on non Eu cars.

Darn, thought I’d be first but no! I have a 2022 e208 and it’s a great little car, perfect as our second car and as long as you don’t expect it to go more than 180 miles, comfortable, nippy and a pleasure to own (with cheap home charging). Of course, mines leased not bought as the list price is quite frankly ridiculous! Might buy a used one in a year or so though, a low mileage now is a bargain but I do wish Stellantis wouldn’t put up these fake list prices - you can easily get £5 to £8k off on-line.

@@sIightIyboredI lease mine , but you’re right I’d expect more off if I bought used. Probably looking for £15k a year to 18 months old which is 60% off new.

Good and very thorough review as always. Like you, I love the I-cockpit in my 308. It takes a few minutes to get used to having the steering wheel lower but the smaller steering wheel makes the car feel more agile to me.

Dealers of Stellantis brands of cars seem pretty good at offering discounts over list. In many ways it would make sense to start with a lower list price. I really like the E-208 in terms of styling and interior. I test drove the original model and it was great but I couldn't quite justify spending the money (I do very low mileage so older used cars make much more sense to me).

Another excellent review and test, thank you! Just bought a Citroen eC4 ....but as a fully loaded low mileage demo. As an elder lemon myself I am on a Very steep learning curve, and have just ordered a paper copy of the owners manual as I still find that Essential as an ongoing reference. Again I find your testing and comments objective, balanced and fair. Frank (Dublin).

Another great video and I have to agree - they've messed up the pricing. However... Peugeot do seem to have noticed they've messed up the pricing, so they're offering 0% finance and £4k deposit contribution - coupled with dealers offering hefty discounts. The top spec GT can be had for £26k and no interest - making it £100s/month cheaper than an MG4/Renault/Corsa. No idea why they don't just acknowledge that and knock £10k off the advertised retail price - it would be so easy to recommend!

A Great Review. Most people know that Peugeots are just Fiats, Vauxhalls, Citroens dressed in much bling and makeup, so spending hundreds extra on a Peugeot over a Citroen, Fiat or Vauxhall makes little sense. I like what Renault are doing at the moment. They are taking risks and designing great cars again. The Renault 5, I think will deservedly deal the Peugeot 208 and Fiat 500 a bloody nose.

There seems to be an obsession with enormous wheels 'filling the arches' on cars these days - but they've put black arches on this making the wheels look small. Hmmmm.

@Petelmrg
@Petelmrg Месяц назад
@@dcvariousvids8082 - yes I did; and for many, many years virtually all popular cars ran on 13 inch wheels which made tyres much cheaper with no availability problems we have today with the hundred of different variations. I don’t yearn for the non-existent ‘good old days’ but this pointless obsession with big wheels and the inevitable rim damage we get on our pot-holed roads does seem bonkers.

Im running a 2020 208 130 and feel that this facelift has just slightly spoiled the design. The 17" alloys on the early Allures were prettier and I prefer a single "fang". But in truth, I'm bored with it by now. One problem with strongly styled cars is that they date quickly, especially where the features are purely aesthetic e.g. the fangs, or the pointless bulging window- line on the DS3. The French seem to go in for styling embellishments like these. Whereas a plainer car, like a Polo or Fabia, never really turns heads but is relatively timeless.
