That is awesome, congratulations and hopefully it gets to you quick! Super glad you enjoy the videos, you are going to LOVE your truck. What color and other specs did you order? Cheers
honestly i think that is the perfect build because to me the graphics is a bit much and the beadlock capable wheels are a bit heavier and i doubt may people are actually going to buy the rings to actually turn them into true beadlocks... i know i am not goign to do it.
You could think about swapping to the regular non-beadlock capable wheels. They are quite a bit lighter compared to the beadlocks. Afaik, leveling kit messes with the suspension tuning and makes it harsh. There were some videos from australia iirc. I wouldn't do it. Also, I'd think about getting some underbody protection, especially for the rear suspension sensors. They are too low and too naked 😂
I may look into the regular wheels since I have no intention of actually getting the rings to actually make them true beadlock wheels. Good info about the leveling kit, kind of what I was thinking as well and from what I have seen, RIVAL makes some skid plates for the ranger raptor, they only have the gas tank and replacement for the engine oil pan listed but in the photos they have the entire undercarriage of the truck covered so hopefully they are still working out the specs and will start producing transmission and transfer case plates in mass and list a full package soon
The Ranger Raptor is more fun to drive than your Explorer ST?! WOW!! My tuned and lowered Explorer ST is hands down the best and fastest vehicle I've ever owned. I have an Acura TLX Type S and I just picked up my ordered 2024 Ranger Raptor. I only have 200 miles on it and I 've already ordered my aftermarket wheels and 2-Inch leveling kit. I doubt the Ranger will give me more thrills than my explorer ST, but it did replace my 6-Inch lifted 2021 F-150 Lariat on 35's, which I didn't drive much due to only getting 11 miles per gallon!
I never too my Explorer ST off roading so I don’t know how much fun it would have been on this trail, I’m guessing not very well. On a normal road the Explorer was nicer, but the M3 and RS were better than the Explorer there as well. I think the Explorer was one of the most comfortable vehicles I have had and it was a blast on a nice smooth twisty road but I love the versatility of the ranger raptor
@@flaberdoopin I too have never taken my Explorer ST off-road and probably never will. The Explorer is for speed and comfort. Once I start to drive my Ranger Raptor I'll be able to see what the hype is about, as I'm already having buyers remorse by trading in my 2021 F-150 Lariat. I have to get used to driving a mid sized truck, as my F-150 was lifted 6-inches and rode on 35's. Like you, I commute to DC for work as well. Hopefully I'll get more than the 11 MPG I was getting with the F-150.
@@DalHarpJr if you expecting the same performance out of the Ranger that you are getting from your explorer, you are going to sorely disapointed. It has a LOT more unsprung weight and much more rotational mass in the drive train. If you aren't going to take it offroad i think it isn't worth it coming from the explorer ST, but if you want to get out on the trails and fire roads, it is the best option out there if you also want a bit of performance.
@@flaberdoopin Although the drivetrain in the Ranger Raptor is the same as in the Explorer ST, I'm not looking for the same level of performance as they're two different type of vehicles. I'm definitely going to take the Ranger off-road. Nothing too crazy, as its built for that purpose. I still have the Explorer, so they'll compliment each other in different ways. The Ranger is most definitely quicker than the F-150, even though the F-150 was up a half liter and 50HP. I'm not knocking the the Ranger Raptor at all. I just haven't driven it since I brought it home. Monday I get my 2-inch leveling kit installed. After that I will install my new wheels and get an alignment. Then I'll be ready to experience what it has to offer!
@@KODstorm21 interesting... if you are lucky, maybe they are installing the load box reinforcement braces! i really hope that becomes a normal thing that they take care of before delivery rather than charging us for it after delivery!
Right on brother! When I was out in California, I had to travel to Durango Colorado to get my Focus RS at MSRP. They are doing military discounts on rangers and I have heard that some dealers are honoring that on the raptor as well even though the fine print says it excludes the raptor. I’ll keep my eyes and ears open for you
Thanks Doopin! I will keep looking around. Also considering a Tacoma long bed, the wife has a love for Toyota haha. Probably all I need but there are sand dunes and trails out here in Oregon
Tacomas are awesome for sure... you cant go wrong if the maintenance history is any indicator but this ranger is SO much fun. and you can fit plywood between the wheel wells in the bed... cant do that in a taco without some wood bracing to hold it up above the wheels
I’m surprised you like those steps doing actual off-roading. I’m in a slightly modded ‘19 zr2 and the ranger raptor is my next truck. Those steps will be the first thing to go for rock rails. Have to have for me
Infinitely more important than a gas tank or trans skid imo. That being said, love the in depth nature of your videos and thanks for helping me have a head start understanding my next truck
I haven’t done anything too technical on the trails yet but the more I do the more I agree with you, I always step past these steps getting in and out (but my kids do use them). I will absolutely be switching to rock rails within the next few months but I haven’t found too many options here in the US for good strong sliders and I don’t know how to weld to make my own so I’m stuck waiting.
@@flaberdoopin If you do any driving on gravel roads, I would make sure to get the mud flaps before you remove the running boards. I've seen some pics of the rear fenders from someone who removed the running boards and they get beat up pretty bad. The running boards actually seem to block most of the rocks kicked up by the front tires.
i didn't think of that but you are right... when i get off the trails and go through gravel for a few hundred yards i hear it flinging up all over the place once i get going again. ill keep that in mind for sure!
That’s sweet! I’m thinking of getting one in a few years I have a 2020 Tacoma sr5 4x4 that’s paid off in November so I think I’ll wait awhile and bank some cash. When I got my truck it was pre Covid and pricing and interest rates were a lot lower, kinda sucks what’s happened with pricing in just a few years.
Thanks so much for sharing your experiences. I'm told my order should be arriving at the dealer any day now, It's been a long time coming! Sorry if I missed this in your video but how are you feeling about the Shelter Green at this point? Very curious as I'm getting the same (minus the graphic). I haven't yet seen it on the Ranger R in person :)
I love the color and congrats on the impending delivery… you are going to love it. Would have preferred no graphics but I wasn’t gonna turn it down! Cheers
Just remember, the rake is there for when you put weight on the back. The payload is less than 700kg, so the moment you carry something, the nose will be way up and look like a boat. Visibility is also worse, especially when loaded. Just keep that in mind before doing a lift kit
Yeah that makes sense but I spend 90% of my driving time without a bunch of weight in the bed. I’m more concerabout negative effects on front suspension by lifting it
I’ve noticed with other Ford’s that the A/C system is hit or miss with loss of power or issues with A/C compressor clutch. How is your experience driving using the AC in the heat?
This AC is rock solid. I had zero issues with my Explorer either… it bows frosty cold air and we are in a heat wave with temps over 100 this past week. No issues
These are the floor mats that came with the truck. Not sure if they were a special order option or not but they are ford floor mats and the front two say ‘Raptor’ so they look cool for sure and they work really well
so glad that you're having near zero issues...it almost sounds like your having bluetooth issues, my alpine has the same issues...I have a RR on order can't wait!
Yeah, this thing is fantastic. I am jealous that the rest of the world has had this option for a few years but is nice that they have worked out a bunch of kinks before it came out here in the states and the motor and transmission are the same as I had in my ST and I knew they are lasting in that vehicle really well! It may be the Bluetooth but I can change tracks and go into google maps on the tablet and it changes the screen of the phone as well just no sound. It is really strange and way worse than in my other fords that had the sync system. Oh well, that is such a minor thing as super easy to fix when it happens.
interesting... i think the suspension is pretty good for stock form... not too many stock trucks in the midsize range that have setups like this outside the AT4/ZR2 and maybe the new TRD Pro Tacoma. i mean there is always room to through a long travel system on it aftermarket but i think Ford has to ensure the truck is street legal in all 50 states to be able to sell it and long travel might be an issue on a small truck like this. but to each their own, i wouldnt' have said no to more ground clearance and longer travel suspension but i have realistic expectations for a $60K midsize truck
there is some slight rattling from both doors but i haven't determined where it is coming from... may be one of the wires in the door panel going to the switches... i'll find the song that causes the most and try to diagnose it in the next couple of days.
@@flaberdoopin let me know what you find. I’ve put a small wedge on the outside of the chrome piece. That has minimized it but still a rattle. It leads me to believe it may be the buttons, not the entire unit in the panel.
The subwoofer in the explorer was a bit bigger and the entire interior of that vehicle was a bit quieter so it sounds a little better from the factory in my opinion. I did upgrade the center channel of my Explorer and it made a difference
I ordered them from indicarbon.com they have a few cool things but some of it is a bit expensive for me right now. The amber lights were pretty reasonably priced
I get no power to my Auxiliary Switch 1 wire. It’s the Violet and Green 5 amp fused wire in group B. Checked fuse and it’s good but no power to the wire. Was going to use it first Raptor LEDs used Aux 2 2 instead.
that is interesting... i have heard some people tell me that on some of the trucks the AUX switches are dependent on the headlights being on which makes no sense to me. Maybe try that and then ask the dealer about it
that's awesome that you have a date now. I did a little bit of reserach on catch cans but i haven't bought one yet. That will probably be within the next week or two so i will let you know which one i go with. I have been watching the Explorer ST forums to get ideas there.
i'm not sure it makes a difference, i have plugged it in directly and just done bluetooth and the problem happens both ways. not sure what the deal is. it happened 2 times day already but it has become standard operating procedure to disconnect and reconnect.
I love my RR so far but did you check how much rust there is under the truck? Mine has only 700 miles on it and the driveshafts are covered in rust. Ford saved $10 by not pairing them and it looks ridiculous..
100%. I did a few videos about how rusty they were. The U joints were the worst. I ended up cleaning and painting them myself after I took it to the dealer to see if they would do anything about it and they said it was normal. All the other Ranger Raptors around the world have painted/coated drive shafts but we don’t in the Us. It’s crazy. Out of curiosity I got under my wife’s 2013 Toyota sienna with 130k miles on it and it has coated drive shafts with zero rust after 12 years.
I have a hard time seeing the little icon in adaptive cruise control when it indicates that a vehicle in front of me is in range. The little vehicle icon is blue and very small. Do you have this issue or am I just blind?
I haven’t really noticed having a hard time seeing the icon. I generally just set it and leave it at the 2 bar range and it works about right in most situations
The ZR2 is awesome. I wish they still had a diesel option in 2024. If they went with a 6 cylinder diesel I would have gone with the ZR2 I think. The 4 cylinder before was cool but bigger is always better.
it does not... it has the standard 12 volt plugs that a cigerette lighter would go into but they are either just covered with a little flap or they have a plastic dumby cigarette lighter in it... if you wanted one, you could just buy the lighter and put it in the plug and it would work but it doesn't come with it.
not really trouble after the first time when i realized you gotta drop it from about 2 feet up or put a little force into it if you drop from lower... it has really good weather seals so it needs to be slammed pretty hard for sure.
Hey shipmate have you figured out how to cancel out the Ford Blue while you’re in cruise control to shut off the alert to put your hands back on the steering wheel? It kinda gets old hearing it when you’re driving on a straight away.
i haven't seen anything to shut that off... i still get the alert on the dash but i dont get any audible alarm... not sure if it is disabled or it only comes through the center channel speaker that i disconnected when i upgraded the stereo. If i hear anything about it i'll let you know for sure!
I have to agree with you 100 percent. This truck is awesome. I have only had one issue. I drove it somewhere like I normally do and then went into a store. I came out about 15 minutes later and when I started it, the truck shook horribly. The check engine light, service wrench, svc 4 wheel drive and collision system warning came on. The engine went into limp mode. I turned it off and tried restarting several times, to no avail. However, after about the fourth try, the truck started and all the lights except the check engine light went off. It did have a stored code that indicated throttle body sensor stuck closed. I haven't had any issues since then. Sometimes I feel like the idle is a little rough , but because I had an "incident" I might be a little sensitive. The only other issue is when I get a text message or when Alexa first starts playing something, there is aloud static noise for a second through the speakers or a notification stutter when getting a text. Otherwise, great truck. Love your videos. Even the grass catcher one. I actually have the same one and on 4 acres it makes it hella easier to get the clippings.
holy crap, that is a gnarly incident you had there with your truck... did the dealer do anything about it or just clear the code and send you on your way? Not sure what could be causing the weird static noise on your sync 4 system... i dont get anything like that on mine when i get incomming calls or messages. are you tying in with an android or apple phone? mine is an apple and i have my fair share of issues but never that one.
@@flaberdoopin It was knarly. The whole engine was shaking. I didn't go to a dealer. I have a scanner that pulled the code. The check engine light reset itself after a couple of on off cycles. I did call the dealer and they said it could have been a hiccup and the engine did a self diagnostic and fixed itself. If it happens again, I will definitely take it in. Of course, now every time I start it, I worry it will happen again. As for the radio, I have an Iphone. I am not sure what is causing the issue but I don't plan to have them disassemble the entire dash to try and diagnose it.
yeah, that is kind of nuts but not uncommon across all the different brands when they have limited release vehicles... if you are patient you will get one at MSRP for sure but to be the first you either have to know someone or be willing to pay i guess.
I was thinking about that or a bed rug. I use it for truck stuff and wasn’t sure if the bed rug would get gross being full of mulch and dirt but I like the idea of it as it is easier on the cargo I would put back there. I have had spray in on previous trucks and it is great. Maybe I’ll do spray in and just the bottom bed mat instead of full bed rug. But yes, I will do some sort of bed protection soon.
Man im dying for mine to be built and delivered. Im like a kid waiting for christmas counting every day and watching every new video i can find, looking for trails in my area (southern NH if anyone knows places near me) researching aftermarket and ford performance accessories, etc. Im intrigued by the tacoma trailhunter, looked heavily into the zr2 bison, but this truck scratches that itch for me. I am suprised ford doesnt offer more colors for this truck though. I think a dark midnight blue would look really good, but shelter green is perfect
@flaberdoopin I'm on the fence about azure grey. By definition it's a sky blue grey. I haven't seen it in person yet and being a tri coat it probably has some nice depth. Maybe it would change my mind if I saw it. I heard it's similar to area 51 which I wasn't a fan of.
I totally agree best truck ever! I have had mine now for probably 2 weeks less than you and don’t even have 1000 miles on it yet. I just got done adding the 10” Kicker sub in and agree with you that it’s a must,10 times better. Also just got done painting my bead lock rims to match paint code of my truck and front grille FORD letter decals to match paint also. It all just makes everything just pop a little bit more.
oh man, that sounds pretty awesome. i may have to paint the grill too... how did the 10" hideaway sub fit? perfectly or did you have to modify anything?
Fit the way yours did pretty much, no modifications needed and it was pretty easy thanks to your video! Didn’t have to paint the grille, Rocky Mountain Graphics out of Utah sells an array of different colored vinyl sticker overlays. Also the best thing about them is that they are officially licensed Ford products. If interested they also make an inlay decal sticker for the tailgate Raptor emblem ( your choice of color) I went with white to help the emblem stand out more.
I have gone in and done it from both directions. If you start at the south end it is Brett rough for the first two miles. From the north it is super fun for 7-8 miles then you have to hit that stuff you didn’t want to do going downhill which in my opinion is even harder. If you ever want to meet out there let me know. My email is flaberdoopin@gmail.com
@@ericd1632I don’t know what @xEC99 does but when I was 25 I was a LT in the navy living in my own house and if the ranger raptor existed back then I could have afforded it… there are tons of opportunities out there!
Dude I’m jealous I’m 25 and this is my first brand new vehicle, I travel for work so I’ll use it to bring my klx 300 with me. Figured it was the best of all worlds. Congrats on the truck man let me know when they send it to your dealer if you think of it!
Haha, yeah… my kids thought it was the most fun thing ever but they did get tossed about a little bit but when I kept asking if they wanted to get in the cab of the truck they both said they were having too much fun and they wanted to stay in the bed haha
My black RR was delivered 1st. of May. I have 1800 miles on it and no problems. I'm in my 70s this is the best truck I have ever owned. No problems so far, 17 to 21 mpg. Put carbon fiber wrap on the hood and carbon fiber on the FORD on front and Ranger on tailgate, Mtn. Graphics. ATIQ 32 inch LED off road grille lights. Painted the tow hooks to match interior orange. More to come after Raptor Assault school. I LOVE THIS TRUCK!!!!!!!
dude, that sounds awesome... what dates are you going to be at the assault school? you are getting much better mileage than me but if i drove a little more on some of the back roads at 55-60 i think the mileage would come way up. I have noticed that if i follow a semi truck in adaptive cruise at around 70 with the distance between the closest or second closest (still feels plenty safe) my mileage is much better. keeping that in mind for my upcomming trip from VA to CO/UT.
that's good to know. Please let me know how the school is next week... i'm excited for you! i cant wait to get out there next month... i had a blast with the other ford performance schools i went to with my Focus ST and RS and i always saw the big F-150 raptors driving out to their courses all covered in dirt and mud with huge smiles on their faces so i cant wait!
@@flaberdoopinalso when you have your foot on the brake and it’s in auto start stop and remove your foot and step on it again does it stay on? Bc mine stayed on
