I keep coming back to this TV. Its been mainly between this, the LG Z3, G4 and M4.. I have the S90C and really like it, but i need another TV and while QD-OLED is the best contrast and color, i think QD miniled looks incredible and with 8k 60hz / and 4k 240hz with the best upscaler... I have a feeling i will get this at 85 inch when i pull the trigger

Not sure if serious...? I'm looking at TV, my first screen purchase in 25 years or so, apart from phones and laptops. The idea of doing some productivity and the like, perhaps with a guest, appeals a lot to me. I guess it will require a serious PC but I'll be getting that for gaming anyway, or a powerful travel laptop, perhaps even a gaming laptop if all I need from it is graphics. Do you have experience using a large TV to get work done from the couch or floor?

Hi I really don't understand why everything keeps on about the contrast levels of OLED I have the OLED G3 and the Samsung Q90R and its not a night and day difference. I've followed for all for years saying how the contrast levels are mind-blowing on an oled so finally went with the G3. Yes its better in some scenes but it's not mind-blowing different so please can you explain what I am missing here thanks for your time

I am 100% in the same boat. Qleds have gotten just about as good at contrast as Oled and a lot better in some areas like brightness. I enjoy watching my QLed just as much as my OLed

Have you viewed star fields on your G3 vs Q90R? I realize this is a very narrow question, but I’m a bit worried this 900D will come up short when it comes to displaying something with single-pixels on a black background. My partner is deep into astrophotography, and our OLED excels at this. I recognize this won’t be a problem for most folks, but it’s pivotal for us.
@elvnmagi9048

OLED HDR is decent in that they can do uniform pixel lighting down to the hairline pixel side by side with other color levels and down to "infinite blacks" which creates side by side pixel by pixel contrast and maintains detail. That side by side isn't just object and areas based in scenes either, it's down to the detail and texture within objects. OLED HDR is good in highlights, isolated light sources, and details rather than large bright mids (and highs) scene areas. The real scene brightness in mids and highs in 25% and 50% of the screen is very low on oleds (for HDR) still. Like 250 - 330nit typically where a bright FALD would get 600 - 800 nit in those scenes. The overall 100% screen average picture level in bright scenes is also low, OLED suffer from ABL being triggered on brighter scenes and especially sustained brightness. FALD are still swiss cheese of lighting zones, a tetris brickwork of backlights where the contrast drops in darker colors and dark areas around the bright backlights (and sometimes "radiates" the other way dimming a brighter object and making it less detail, paled). They are non-uniform, making localized brightness gradients of zones if not outright blooming at times. It works really well for what they are able to do with the tech, but it's a tradeoff either way, among several other tradeoffs overall between the two techs. I may end up with a 8k 900D fald sometime months later, before I think about getting a 5000 series gpu in 2025, so I'm not bashing FALDs or writing them off really, both techs are using hacks to ameliorate their faults as best they can but neither is perfect by a long shot.

I would buy the QN900D at launch if it were cheaper, and I would pay near full price if it were 8K120hz because gaming is my primary application. The biggest competition for the QN900D is really going to come from the first 8K OLED from TCL... Hopefully sooner than later. As-is barring horrible reviews I'm going to upgrade from an LG C1 to TCL Q8M this year (not that I'm getting rid of the C1 it's just moving to the bedroom).

As someone who uses an 85 inch QN800B for 8K pc gaming and now using topaz AI to take 4k material to 8k, there is definitely a difference in sharpness quality given the right seating distance. Even with a 4090 the time it takes to upscale to 8K on topaz AI is a lot longer than I would like it to be, but it is a niche use case that has a real world difference. Just like shooting your own 8k video from a phone or camera, or taking your own pictures in 8K and viewing them on your tv. There is also the limited 8k content on youtube. As far as when I will upgrade, I will until a 98 inch 8k tv is released with 120hz refresh for $8000 or less. I'm sure by the time this happens, Micro led will be here for affordable prices and native 8K movies will be released digitally online. 8k is taking way too long to come down in price. For whatever reason they cost much more to manufacture
@nimblegoat

@@nimblegoat the difference between upscaling 480p to 4k and 480p to 8k Is very minimal. Not worth the size and time it takes. 1080p to 4k and 1080p to 8k is noticeable, but 4K to 8K shows the most difference. Since it takes a long time to upscale, I would rather upscale material that shows the most difference which is 4k material

This sounds amazing. How might the upscaling apply to gaming, specifically sim racing? It would be unlikely my only screen to do that on, but especially in social setting, it would be nice. I'm trying to justify an 8K screen while the store salesman told me not to, but this was in the context of LG OLEDs. I'm not going to use any TV signal, just PC signal and RU-vid, etc. Love the idea of having a 77" picture frame in 8K, I would commission nice footage from Fiverr or the light, just have something pretty and of my taste running there.

Is this screen REAL 4k 240Hz or is it samsung's fake Motion Xcelerator which is interpolation and/or black frame insertion~flicker? What is the native Hz of this panel at 4k and at 8k? Can hmdi 2.1 even do 8k 120Hz natively off of a 4000 series nvidia gpu;s hdmi 2.1 port? (even using DSC, DisplayStreamCompression)?? Other tv manufacturers have their own moniker for their fake Hz mode, including TCL and others, so forgive my doubts on the actual 4k 240hz and 8k 120hz. I'd be pleasantly surprised if it's true, but so far there have been only very casual "impression reviews" of this screen from people who got to visit it rather than anyone actually going through the OSD and settings in more detail.
@elvnmagi9048

Most of the different panel manufacturers have different names for a way to fake higher Hz, so a lot of people are thinking that is what the "240" figure is, a "motion rate" and not actual 4k refresh rates native to the panel. It would be nice to have this confirmed either way. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . These fake refresh rates are advertised under different names by different brands and are usually marketed in a manner that will make the average buyer think that they're looking at a hardware-supported refresh rate figure. The motion rate is pretty much always a multiple of the actual refresh rate of the display, often 2x, 4x, or even 8x. Here are the common brand names for the same: Hisense - Motion Rate, 2x or 4x the actual refresh rate LG - TruMotion, 2x the actual refresh rate Samsung - Motion Rate/Clear Motion Rate, 2x the actual refresh rate Sony - Motionflow XR/X-Motion Clarity, 4x or 8x the actual refresh rate TCL - Clear Motion Index (CMI)/Natural Motion, 4x the actual refresh rate Vizio - Clear Action/Dynamic Motion Rate, 2x the actual refresh rate

Probably due to gpu port limitations on 8k 60hz right now. With dsc it would probably be possible otherwise. Nvidia cant do multiple 240hz 4k displays either due to lanes per port or something. Their gpu specs currently say that and 8k 60hz. So maybe 5000 series gpu.(slated for 2025) will be different.

The only problem Is these are super pricey , I hear alot of people say 65 inch Is too small for It to matter and that you need at least the 75 inch or 85 version of this tv to see the Improved fine details. Hopefully prices drop alot between now and black friday.

@@fawkkyutuu8851 I agree with you. It's super expensive, but I'm getting the 65" model to test it out. Make sure it checks all of the boxes especially with the new One Connect Box.
