Thank you. It took me 10 nights of 3D modeling. I only showed the left access ramp because I'm not 100% convinced of the ramps. I'm trying to model a twin stair to replace one or maybe both the ramps and see if it isn't more elegant.
Good to know I am not the only one already thinking about 2024. I saw their lineup. There are a few I want, but Dept. 56 really did a great job this year, like the jewelry shop! (And your English is fine!)

And is consistent with a collection they introduced more than 40 years ago. Great professionalism. Unfortunately for those living in Europe Department56's prices are crazy between the purchase of the product, transport and import costs. Some French Christmas Village builder mentioned a brand unknown to me: Heartland Valley Village Spectacular and original buildings Do you know the brand by any chance? @@silvioallena Hey Silvio! From my quick Google search, it appears to be a line from the O'Well brand. I have one of their churches and I love it. (If you need help finding anything else, please let me know and I will do my best.) I probably would not be able to collect Dept 56 if I lived outside the U.S. That village is beautiful! Thank you for sharing. It inspires me to continue making my 2024 platforms. Already have one done!
@@silvioallena same thing in my country with the shipping costs! But I couldn’t believe my eyes when I found in a local antique shop some Department 56 buildings 😊 all retired pieces from the 90’s….so take a look around, you never know what you can find!
Hello Silvio, That bridge is going to be incredible. I like the district idea but am thinking you will end up with more than 2 districts besides your Victorian main village. Please forgive me, but my first thought for the water was that you would add a sea monster or something else crazy, maybe a submarine surfacing. Anyway, looking forward to its progression. I am also excited about the tutorials!
Hello Susan, However, it is always a question of space. If I manage to fit two more districts I will be over the moon. But there won't be much water. A narrow river with a wide estuary and the ocean just visible in front. So no sea monsters or submarines. But the source of the river...ooops...I said too much.
Hello Maria, I generally use Rhino 3D for everything is non organic (buildings, street furniture and other props) and ZBrush coupled with a graphic tablet for everything is organic (figurines, animals and so on)
Over the years I have built so many Styrofoam structures that I would need two warehouses to store everything. So I generally only kept one or two items from each season. But since I started using 3D modeling to print what I need and I can't find it in any catalogue everything I 3D print. Also because the cost per kg of filament or resin for 3D printers is much higher than the price of Styrofoam panels. For this reason, I created an additional space in the basement to store in Plexiglass or PVC boxes what I print (standard plastic storage boxes) I use them for everything I haven't already purchased with their own packaging. So the Viking village ramps and buildings will end up in those boxes. Also the Scriptorium and the cathedral.

Hello. Thanks. I use 12 cm levels for two main reasons: - It represents half the average height of Lemax buildings. In this way the buildings on a higher level are not covered or completely covered by those on the lower level. And this improves the POV of those observing the village from the front. The overall vision of the village is very important, especially if you then film the village. By using higher levels, you must also create very steep stairs or access ramps between the various levels so as not to waste too much space. And so steep they are not very nice to look at. - It is the maximum height of expanded Styrofoam panels that can easily be found on the market and above all at a low or reasonable price. And I use Styrofoam extensively as a base structure. Yes, I could make higher levels but overlapping Styrofoam panels jeopardizes the stability of the structure.
Welcome back Silvio for your 2024 preview! That stone bridge is incredible looking!!! How do you decide on your design so early in the season? I always struggle with layout each year, taking months to come up with a theme! Then changes are made during the actual construction due to not fitting in the layout!😮😅
Hi Robin, Last season was an exception to decide so late on the theme I would adopt for my Christmas village. Generally by mid-January at the latest I have already made my choice. The inspiration doesn't come so much from observing other villages but rather from a challenge with myself, trying to go towards what I have never done before and does not exist. Never worrying if I will be able to do it as I believe there is nothing impossible in life, it's just about finding the right solution for every problem and solutions abound. I just have to get them out of hiding. A preview is just a preview, not the final project. I've never had a season where I didn't have to change the initial plan several times or desperately search for more space. But the basic idea has always remained. It's a fact that what I visualize in my crazy head, once realized, will always take up more space than what I imagined. Only one thing is for sure, in this 2024 season I will have very little space for Lemax buildings. Maybe just a third or a quarter of the collection I've accumulated over the years. Let the fun start.
