Dont know if it was my comment you responded but i think that the lynx is the harder version of the ski doo since its a harder shock setup a more rigid rear suspension and no t motion (ik that the freeride this year got the Xt) which is something i really dident like about ski doo i think that the lynx is more predictable when you jump and just like sidehilling and i like that ds+ ski more since the deep keel gives good response when i ride in quite hard snow here is sweden and thats some of the reasons i dont ride ski doo but all that comes down to personal preferences and the ski doo is still a really good sled and its fun that we could chose what we like in the brp family
Go lynx Shredder 3700 RE 850 Turbo R. all black! It is fun to be different and no one can tell you that you are on a doo or poo! (only guy out there who isnt riding a tird…) Have seen a video of Bergmark doing wheelie downhill 😬
For safety reasons, Skidoo, Polaris and Cat need to get together and build a navigation/buddy tracking system that connects to all models with a option to color prioritize your buddies in your group.
Why all 4 manufacturers couldn't get together and do a system like a Garmin and like GPS Trailmasters set up to save on cost is beyond me. Even the 7s gps sucks vs the Garmin for mapping
You could get a Trail Tech Voyager Pro. Polaris bought them for the Buddy Track tech they invented for their 7S gauge and their Voyager Pro will work with any Polaris with Buddy Track. This isn't as good as a common industry standard that you mention, but you can get 2 Voyager Pro's for the price of Doo's 10.25" gauge, so there's that at least.
Matt makes it prominent that he isn't a Skidoo ambassador even though everyone knows he should be one. Nobody else puts out Skidoo content like him. He is the best in the business! I appreciate your content Muskoka!
@@rjarchbold24 no it's wouldn't, by not being an ambassador he can ride anything he wants and give his true opinion on things. That's why he probably hasn't gone the ambassador route.
No matter what you choose to ride ill be watching! Your skills in both riding and filming are amazing! Although when cat does release the new engine, it would be cool to see you comparing the 3 big brands side by side in a non-biased setting! Sponsored riders only tell you the good stuff.
Cat guy here. Would love to see you on a catalyst for next year bummer the only option is a 600. In my opinion your the only guy out there doing reputable reviews. Ambassadors are just gonna hype whatever they are paid to ride. Keep up the awesome content. 🤘🏼
Cat guy myself. Loving my 155 alpha. Can hardly wait for them to get the 870 out in the new platform. Was kinda thinking of going back to the conventional skid next time until u jumped on a brand new lynx last weekend and that put me back on board with the alpha. It's just so effortless compared to a conventional skid. There's a few downsides but for me I can ride around a bit of washout here and there and the crappy trail manners in order to get that effortless maneuverability. My daughter is just little and she's starting to carve it up on that alpha haha. Once you get through your head that you only need about 20% of the input needed for other sleds and quit over riding it, you start really opening doors. You can basically do 99% of your riding from a neutral position
@@themeach011 Good call on the ability to stay neutral nearly everywhere. It becomes addictive, especially when carrying injuries that limit your ability to leap around the place.
I agree that you are the only mountain riding channel with unbiased, honest information about the sleds you ride. I’d love to see you on the new cat sometimes. Hard to find unbiased information in the sledding world where everybody is absolutely cult like in a particular brand following. (I have a 2019 alpha, 2022 Polaris, and 2020 doo)
How about running a contest for your fan base to design the wrap for your sled next year - they send you a link of their design from Deviantink, you pick the one you like best- maybe give the winner some swag, hoodie, hat, stickers
Matt thank you for all of your ultra hard work you put into each and every single video you create.. I find myself watching from beginning to end. After watching the BRP new product info video and listening to the ladies talk about the deep snow stuff, I cant help but wonder how much better you could have done that whole video for BRP/Ski Doo. And another thing... these "Professional Riders" they have riding the new iron... if they were to watch your content, especially your tree riding and especially the "21 riders up the knarliest drainage" video, I think they would come to understand not only what an amazing rider you are but how well you showcase what the Ski Doo can actually do. I was just amazed by that video. You have so much natural ability and never bash another brand and always are there to help your buddies when they need help (and a Freerider sticker lol) but most of all you do it and keep it interesting and funny. You're not out to prove you are the best rider or your sled is the best. You're just out having fun and taking us all along with you! Do you have a direct email or contact we could send BRP our recommendations to, to maybe help you secure a sponsorship or a new sled to test each season? You're very deserving of it Brother! Just got my cool tan Freerider hoodie last week!! Thank you!! Its great!! Ride on my friend!!
I think a 165 X for your dad sounds perfect. Would be interesting to compare the X and Expert on the hill. The Freeride 146 15 wide Turbo seems like an expensive specialty sled for the snow conditions out there. Sure seems like a 154 or 165 X or Expert would be a lot more versatile. I have no doubt the 146 will be entertaining at times though.
agree I pretty much just tell him what he should get haha would be interesting to see how much different the x vs expert is next year. it is for sure an expensive specialty sled but for this year up until February it would've been a competent sled, theres lots of times where we have low snow conditions where it would be perfect.
I mean you are the Muskoka FREERIDEr so it makes the most sense to see you on the new one, would be sick to see you extend the 155 to a 165 too. Either way whatever sled you end up with im gonna watch you ride!
Save your money for helicopters for your buddy's, camping trips, and a neck brace. Get the 165 skid for the 154 skidoo, your gonna need the neck brace from all the looking back your gonna be doin. Great videos 👍
I remember back in 1989. Your dad myself and Billy ordered 90 mach ones in the crates ($5200) each. At your Grandfather's cottage we had a race, who could have the first one assembled and out the door of basement running on the snow. Your Oldman won,but I was only couple minutes behind him. Ask him about the (deal) on Quaker State 2 stroke oil back then. GOOD TIMES. Glad to see you didn't fall far from the family tree.
Skidoo should make you an ambassador and if not pay you to ride their sled. At least give you one free sled each season. Same with Polaris. But they won’t because you would be “promoting” another snowmobile. Even though I think you do an amazing job of showing us the pros and cons of each
Don't worry, I'll take one for the team and test out the new Catalyst for you. 😉 also Force Turbos is going to do a VCS bypass turbo for the Cat as soon as it comes out, to remedy the power issue.
146 Turbo for the win!!! I mentioned last year you should drop one in the 146 you already have. We've also noticed that that 146 is still hanging around the stable (What a warrior that old gal has been). Take care out there buddy.
Sure seems like Matt could be a test pilot for all the manufacturers. I haven’t seen anyone put sleds through their paces like Matt. I bet the manufacturers are surprised to see what their sleds are capable of. They should each be throwing a couple sleds his way.
Matt, the skidoo Freerider 146 has no quick adj limiter. So, try the Lynx if the Dealerships near by can support the brand. I like the idea of keeping your G5-T. You'll have best of both worlds. Love that SKI-DOO feeling 🙌
@@MuskokaFreerider idk if you still have it but changing your 146 n/a for a 146 turbo can be a idea, im not sure about the 15 inches track tho. hope we can still change for the 16
I think that the lynx shredder re would be so cool to see since then you have brp,s biggest flag ships for next year and that all black shredder is hard to beat she looks so mean😈 and i know that you like that all black style😉
Considering this year has been a low snow year in Revy (up until recently) I think it’s safe to stick with a 154 Turbski. But sure would love to see you rock that 146, and wheelie for dayzzz.
Lucky guy ..that sled is awesome ..I wish i had your 23year old yellow sled ..its newer than any sled I've ever owned and I dont even have a sled right now ..any sled would be amazing compared to no sled at all ..winter is too long without a snowmobile
Im interested in what your dad goes with. Im pretty much the same age and coming off a 154 Backcountry. Most of my friends have gone to full mountain sleds for next year. Most of our riding has been in the Soo and Quebec and getting more and more away from trail riding. Next year thinking of a few long stretches out west. The decision would be 154 or 165 Summit. Any riding I’ve done out west has been on a 165. I should just by your dad’s sled from this year.
Have the same feeling on the BRP Go App, I messed with it each morning and it was far from user friendly, dropping out - ended up not using it at all and running a Garmin 276CX below it. I did see snippets on release day though that BRP will be adding stand-alone GPS to the '24 10.25, and it possibly will be an add-on module for the 23's
Hold off on the Catalyst... hopefully next year at this time maybe then you'll have and 800+ option, hopefully with turbo options (or reputable aftermarket). Doesn't hurt to hold off and not preorder anything for next year, or do some mods/upgrades to the current machines... or find some older sleds to go out on for fun little series🤣
Would love to see you on a 2025 Catalyst when they put the bigger engine in it. (Fingers crossed for a 900) Get the Lynx, it need the Muskoka stamp of approval.
@@themeach011 might just be my first new sled as well. I'm a little apprehensive about the alpha because I like to spring ride. I hope they have a dual rail option.
@themeach011 wait, really? I know there's always after market, but if they're actually going to offer both, I'm sold. Where do I sign? Take my money already.
@@MuskokaFreerider Planning on heading out to Revelstoke for 2 weeks, Mainly in the u.p of Michigan though which I realize the turbo is a little overkill. But I got to experience a 146 turbo! Would love to see one on the channel if your considering ordering one.
I see somebody asked you if you talked to Ski doo about being an ambassador, you said ya. What was their answer? I can't believe they haven't signed you up yet. The content you put out is awesome.
Sponsorship / ambassador programs come with some severe rules. He likely wouldn't be allowed to touch anything but skidoo.. I have seen some bike ambassador programs that dictate what content you can show and what gear you can wear..
I'm curious to see if I can get most of what I wanted and get the Freeride shocks on my '23 Summit X Expert 165! Either way, stoked to see the Freeride on a 15" track and I'm really curious to try it after trying my G5 Turbo and the 9R Pro RMK back to back.
I think the freeride 146 turbo unless Polaris releases something interesting to compare to your turbo doo! Really would like to see you have one of each manufacturer but the money to do that would be crazy haha !
Funny I wasn't planning on spring ordering and then I watch the Jay and Blaine release review and was ready to order that ugly blue 146 Freeride turbski. Then I watched this. Hopefully I get to rent on next season.
Have you asked Ski-Doo/ BRB To be an ambassador/ product marketer or whatever? Your platform is starting to reach that threshold so I wouldn't be surprised if they agreed
@@MuskokaFreerider Please don’t become an ambassador! They will have you by the nuts. You have far more fun doing what you do now than being an ambassador……. guaranteed!
Sell more merch, start a Patreon, hell sell your body if you have to, but don’t become an ambassador to any sled brand. Aftermarket parts, sure, but please not the sleds. The world is full of brand ambassadors, including many cool people who do it well, but there’s only one MF. No matter how great the company and people and deal, sponsorship ultimately pollutes your mind. Been there, done that.
Hey, I’m driving through revy right now and I seen you drive by and let’s me tell you….. the camera doesn’t do justice as to how nice those sleds look in person! Keep up the great content 👍
FREERIDE!!!!! I’d love to see you on the 154” if you’re not keeping your current G5 My FreeRide was by far the most durable sled to date.. Your Content is 💯🫵🏻
friggen sick man, I'm buying the same one this year but I'm not getting the turbo, too much power for me on a 146 and our snow isn't deep enough to need anything longer
What intrigues you the most about the new catalyst from Cat? I know you said you don't know about a 600, but would you consider getting one after they release a big bore for the 2025 MY?
My only thing is the price vs how long it lasts. Most riders have to make payments , and when it goes down due to poor quality and doesn’t last even one full season. Defeats any purpose or reason to go new anymore. $25k plus tax is insane . Why not keep costs down and introduce more new riders to the sport and make more money in the end with overall sales volume . Just like new trucks. $100 k and doesn’t last more than 5-7 yrs. Exactly what the warranty is 👎💩. All companies want is massive profits. No pride in quality and workmanship and a product lasting . Too bad Honda didn’t get into the game eh . Motors would last a million miles and chassis would be rebuilt instead 😝👌. Keep the content comin bud. I’m stuck here in Ont in -37 🥶 wishin I was there 😢😩🇨🇦💪
would be really cool if the manufactures lent me some sleds to review or gave me a discount so I could review more but I probably speak to honestly for that to happen
So my son and I are very torn, first, by the way, thank you for talking to my son at the Toronto show he wears your merch every day. My son basically wants to be like you, but of course he is 16 years old and he rides around sudbury with dad. Currently he rides arrive a RaVe 850 and loves it but needs more track Was thinking free ride 146, but thought it would not be good on the trails and lakes lots of lakes. So then I was thinking Backcountry with the 2” track.. but some of those logging roads and approaching open water without studs, could be very dangerous So then I was thinking back country with a 1.6 cobra but right there it’s not a great track for playing on Pole lines So then I was thinking, maybe I just swap out the truck for a 1.75 and add The IGrip studs. And now I don’t really know what to do. Should I just get a bass summit and Collett a day? I don’t know what to do for one sled in Northern Ontario What do you think we should do?
Ontario is hard, you never know what winter is going to bring! I rode a lot in Ontario without studs, you just have to be mindful that you can’t stop on ice.I’d rather have a little more track
You can download offline maps to you phone now for free, so the 10.25 will work when you don't have cell signal. Navigation-- settings -- offline areas
@@MuskokaFreerider agreed. Not sure if you caught it, but there was an upgrade announced from BRP that would add GPS and maps to the 10.25, it had a part number and everything, but it has now disappeared from the BRP site.
Quality control has been a big issue on the G5s. Looks like the Polaris sled have had their share of issues too. Boosting power without strengthening the drive components is a recipe for failure. Having to tighten the drive chain after every ride now is ridiculous. I also wouldn't be surprised that in order to save $$, Skidoo has sourced cheaper suppliers for their metal parts.
Can you do a video comparing the pros and cons of your 2023 9r and your 2023 doo? And how would you say your 2023 summit boost compares to your 2022 khaos boost?
@@MuskokaFreerider I think it’s interesting how the turbo r seems so much more powerful than the Polaris boost. Both manufacturers claim similar numbers and its even proven on the dynos. Even from videos you can tell how much harder the ski doo pulls.
@@lukem5141 It's not hard. Polaris set the bench mark last year and that gave Doo a number to beat, so they did. That's how competition works. If Polaris throws a turbo on the 9 then they'll be back on top again. It's just a cat and mouse game.
What do you think the biggest difference between the summit x expert turbo 165 and the freeride turbo 165 is and what would be best fit for all around deep snow and tree riding would be
Freeride is sweet with the few updates but the mint is too light for me... my wife would probably love it tho. If going 146 turbo then shredder re would be my choice now that it's all black so it's a blank canvas to wrap. Until skidoo does a major update to the 10" screen its a gimmick. Sucks paying that premium price to see your rpm in color.
Matt, I’m an intermediate BC Mountain rider +50 yrs old, currently on Summit X Expert 154 that was a new spring purchase for me in 2019. Time to upgrade and I’m leaning towards a 2024 Gen 5 Summit X Expert 154 black and orange. Touch screen does not seem worth it for $1,500 and I’m thinking NON turbo because all my group all ride Non Turbos and I don’t want to work that hard….make sense?
I would like to see u try out the linx I think u should get one of those next and tell us your opinion on them switch it up a bit and see witch ones u like most
order ski doo freeride 146 for not extremely deep days, and extend summit experts track to 165 for deeper days. Then for polaris you should do the khaos
@@MuskokaFreerider that retrofit that was “leaked” or whatever was looking super promising. Then they completely retracted it and backpedaled. With minimal changes to the rest of the deep snow sleds, I would have thought they would focus on updating the screen tech.
Hi Matt What trackwidth do you think works best overall 15 or 16 inches for the type of driving you do in BC throughout the season. And a big thank you for a fantastic youtube channel
I haven't spring ordered since 2020 model year. I realize dealerships vary but I was curious if there are any deals or perks anymore? Are people generally paying full price, plus destination, plus setup?
You want quality control I’d look at the lynx specially it just radiates quality sitting next to a Polaris and skidoo. So similar to the doo but you can see the differences
@@MuskokaFreerider but you said it yourself quality control, so if they send it out with whatever parts out of the box without doing that QC part it’s pointless when your not riding because brakes didn’t work off the showroom or clutch or anything really right. I’m not knocking the skidoos they are awesome looking machines aswell but when I look at a lynx vs a doo turbo r I still see one that’s purpose built and Tailored and I see a machine that’s meant to sell a bunch of in all other motorsports I’ve been a part of that tends to come with extra work and QC going into each of those as well as less being sold
