I bought a mach e a few days ago. What sold me was incentives and 0% apr for 72 months. I did get the premium with extended warranty. Plus we get to use tesla superchargers moving forward!
The Mustang frunk got hot because the car has black paint where the Tesla has white paint. Black paint absorbes a lot of heat where as the white paint reflects it.
I ❤ my model Y, I use it for work purpose only and added to my Mopar collection (Challenger, Ram, and my SRT Durango 2022 my late husband bought me before he passed away) I’m living and enjoying life !that’s what he would have wanted me to do ❤️😁
My sister who has been driving a Model 3 for 4 years got a Mach E after driving the Y, the Volvo and the Audi. After listening to her thoughts (she is not a huge car person just likes a nice car) my conclusion is that the Ford is a better CAR from the casual drivers point of view while the Tesla is generic feeling, noisy, and Tesla has the reputation for exaggerating their actual mileage which bothered her, but also the leader in technology. One thing the legacy automakers have going for them is they have been building cars for quite some time and know how to build a car where Tesla is still figuring that out. She paid a lot more for the Mach E GT than a Tesla Y Performance so there is that. Anyway, I wonder if Tesla will hit a wall with buyers. I drove her car and it was premium feeling compared to a Tesla for sure. I do think Juniper will help address some of the concerns I heard from my sister.
Legacy automakers have no clue how to build an EV. It's a completely different product than an ICE car. Audi in 2016 after analysing Model X: "It's hard to admit, but they did everything right." Volkswagen in 2018 after analysing Model 3: "Compact, upgradable, fully integrated and modular, easy access, great protection and safety, cheap and very clever designed in a lot of details. We could have never built a car like that." Toyota after analysing the Model Y last year: "Taking the skin off the Model Y, it was truly a work of art. It's unbelievable."
@@Tschacki_Quacki And this is what leads to those terrible experiences that makes them think all ev are bad. Tesla's market maturity is worth the price of admission.
I test rode a Model 3 Performance and a Mach-E GT... The Mustang was noticeably slower. Like, a lot. The Tesla was scary fast, and the Mustang was good right off the line, and then... meh... Nice car, but for a $72k sticker price, I couldn't justify it...
So the 24 mach e took away the 5 second limiter that made them slow after the initial launch. They also improved the battery to charge 20% faster and have more range. So I'm definitely waiting for the 24 model drag race between the 2.
Are you sure it was adequately charged? I've rented several Tesla and test drove recently as I was considering the Y. I ended up with MME Bronze Package and I can assure you that it eats the Model Y Performance.
@@DrackMuse1 72% charge and I was in "unbridled" mode... And I was comparing it to the Model 3 Performance, not the Y. My C8 Corvette would obliterate the Mach-E GT
@13:08 The most important statement of this video. As a guy in love w the Caddy Lyriq, having to rely on non Supercharger station reliability was checkmate re my purchase decision.
Im a first time EV owner and looked extensively into the Model Y. The simplisticity of the Model Y, cheap build quality, and cheap feel was a "No Go" for me. I love my Mustang MachE GT. Ford put together an awesome EV. I have over 20k miles and dont have a complaint.
Bravo to you. If you don’t believe in a tyrant leader who is so controversial and hypocritical in many ways why support the Tesla? The world has choices now, even if they are not as good, they will do the job to get humanity away from fossil fuels for transportation eventually.
As a '22 Model 3P owner, I would say the Mach E has objectively better build quality and feels a bit more upscale inside. My bro in law had one for a little over a year until it bricked and Ford couldn't fix it so they bought it back...another story for another time...but in terms of which car I'd rather drive, that's easy. I'd take my M3P over anything else in its class, in spite of it's minor flaws and shortcomings. It's a hoot to drive, easy to live with, has way more power (Mach E GT is comparable in power but can't compare in performance to the 3P, esp at higher speeds where the Mach dials back power considerably) and looks better, IMO. Looks are subjective, but I prefer the low-slung rocket-egg profile of the 3P. It goes without saying that Tesla has the best charging infrastructure available. Now that they are allowing other mfrs to use their chargers that's less of a selling point for Tesla, but I still feel very happy with my choice and would not take the Mach E or anything else in this price range over the 3P.
There is a video from another Tesla centric channel where he interviewed one of the senior engineers on the Mach E team, and he said they originally planned on it being an Electric Explorer, but they realized they were not going to be able to make enough of them, so they chosenthe Mustang for great heritage and the fact they sell similar numbers in Mistangs as they planned on being able to build Mach Es. So you can see where the styling and sizing of the vehicle would be perfect for an Explorer.
Drove them both, and my views align with yours. The only thing I wonder is why you can’t charge with super chargers, in Europe all the chargers are fitted with ccs converters and work like a charm. Thought that was also the case in the us by now.
at my work we have Tesla 3 and Ford Mach-E. I am totally in love with the Ford Mach-E . i want my own. And the next car I own will be a Ford mustang Mach-E. The Mach-E is super quiet, super comfortable, great riding. It is like driving a magic carpet. I never though i would like a electric automobile, but after driving the Mach-E. i am totally sold on an electric car.
The Mach-E styling is kind of funky and i really like it, all except for the bulbous round part on the front that has the ford logo. I think they could do better.
Since I made the mistake of buying a new 2012 Ford Explorer without looking at consumer reports, it was in the shop more than any other vehicle I have ever owned, I am going to stick with other brands. The Explorer looked good, except for some of the interior trim fit, and drove very well but wasn’t worth the aggravation.
I have a Mach-E, as far as charging goes, while there are issues, I find only about 10% of the chargers I have been too that have problems. 5 months of driving every day and on trips [I can't charge at home] so I always DCFC. Doesn't seem quite as bad as you state. To say you shouldn't buy a CCS type car for now, is being a little dramatic. Just my opinion of course.
I disagree it's bad.. I have to go through multiple card to charge. It's annoying.. Now that I got a Model Y I was cruising and did a road trip with ease..
The big three all make the same type of vehicles with different styling. the problem is they needed to make their own version of the Model Y/3 and not their "better" version which turned out not to be better.
I was cross shopping the MME and the MYLR. The MME definitely drives great and feels very premium, especially on rougher roads, where the MY feels pretty unsettled at times. That said, the combination of price, performance (the MYLR is way faster than the MME AWD extended range) and the charge network really sealed the deal for me. Especially because of what seems to be an extended rollout of the V4 chargers that will accept payment and allow other manufacturers EVs to change on the Tesla network.
The infrastructure makes a HUGE difference. It’s why I had to base my decision as a CONSUMER and not an Enthusiast. Which is exactly why Tesla is more like Toyota- it’s a great consumer experience.
@@meepo-kf5un 100%. 20,000 miles on on my MY, and I have zero regrets that I bought it instead of literally any other EV on the road. I've done quite a few road trips with no stress or trouble charging. I'm absolutely certain I couldn't say that in a competing EV.
I own a Mach-E and my adult son owns a MY long range. Your review nailed it -- the Mach-E is the better car in almost every respect until you have to charge it on a road trip. Then it simply sucks, or, more accurately, CCS charging sucks. I do 99% of my driving around or near my town, charge at home, and have 10.8 KW of solar on my roof. I have charged the Mach-E from public CCS chargers a total of 8 times, and they were always slow -- usually delivering only 25-45 KW either due to their design limitation or due to being de-rated down from the listed 350 KW. Also, at every stop 1 or 2 of the typically 4 chargers were inoperable. I was just about to sell the Mach-E and buy a used Model S when Ford announced that I could start using Tesla Superchargers (with an adapter) after February, so I will hold off my decision to sell until I see how well that works. By the way, I think a more apt comparison is between the Model Y and the Mach-E in Select trim rather than the Premium trim. The Select is a closer match to the Model Y with respect to interior materials and price.
Dude. Thank you, you brought up so many good points about the mustang Mach E on how it looks so much better than the Tesla but. For convenience, you can’t beat the Tesla charging systems. I’m going to wait until Ford Porsche and the other auto maker switch over to the Tesla charging system👍👍
Not correct. The issue has been that demand for GM and Ford model EVs has been weak. However, they both make millions on ICE automobiles. Bottom line is that Tesla (using GM’s discarded EV technology) was the “first mover” in capturing the mid-tier luxury vehicle market for EVs. GM miscalculated thinking that the market segment did not exist. Over time, the EV market will become crowed with other successful manufacturers besides Tesla - this is just the nature of business. However, ICE sales will remain strong for decades to come.
The Mach E is better the casual consumer. It is by the far the easiest transition vehicle for gas to electric. Styling, I have to give it to the Mustang Mach-E. They did it so well
I couldn’t agree more with this review about the Mach E, I test drove the Mach E and my sisters Tesla model 3 & Y and compared the 3 and the Tesla is built cheap, ugly and boring. Although the charging infrastructure of Tesla is on top, I would still consider the Mach E. I’m just waiting closer towards the end of the year to see what other deals Ford can offer before I make the move.
We’re considering the Mach E, we tried the Tesla and it seemed so cheaply built that it was a complete turn off. The Ford just feels so much better when you’re behind the wheel or as a passenger. Understand this, Ford has over 100 years of building vehicles. It should have a better interior sheerly because of the knowledge and experience in the luxury market with the Lincoln Brand. If the Tesla’s interior was on the same level as the Ford I would seriously not consider the Ford. Sorry, but the Tesla interior looks like something out of a kit car package and the exterior looks more like a pregnant Model 3.
Sooo, you okay with judging Tesla when the comparison is with a company who spent decades working the kinks vs one who is within its first 25 years independently
As stated, we did not like the way the Tesla was built. Fortunately, Tesla is not the only game in town anymore. We could do the Porsche Taycon, but since this will be our first EV purchase why spend that much for a vehicle that we may not care for after a few years.
"The latest Ford probe comes after NHTSA in August said it was investigating the automaker's handling of a June 2022 recall of nearly 50,000 Ford Mustang Mach-Es after new reports of power loss" Not ready for Prime time!
"Is there a recall on the Ford Mustang Mach? That is why we are issuing a safety recall for some 2021-2022 model-year Mustang Mach-E® extended-range and GT models built between May 27, 2020, and May 24, 2022. A key component of the vehicle's battery system may not be able to stand up to heat generated from multiple DC fast-charge and wide open pedal events."
The aspects of the Mustang that you are praising are related to being a legacy automobile producer. The charging infrastructure is still a problem and shows no signs of improvement through the remainder of the decade.
Just sold my Mach e and bought a MYP. The Tesla is such a better EV experience. I agree the Mach e has better exterior and interior styling (and that's why I originally bought it over the MY), but that is where it's advantages end IMO. Tesla is less expensive (which it wasn't when I bought the MME), handles better, much more efficient, app is way better, and charging is a breeze. 150 KW seems like a decent charging speed for the Mach e until you charge at 253 kw and realize what an advantage that really is on a road trip. The Mach e is like dating a hot girl with a horrible personality, fun to show off but awful to live with. The MY is maybe a little bland, but is great with everything else. The MYP is a bit spiced up and the performance just blows the MME away. I took a bit of a bath on the MME, but I'm so glad I made the switch. I'd do it again in a second. There is a reason MME are piling up on dealers lots and Tesla sells every Y they build.
I'm torn, looks build quality materials it's ford. But as an electrical engineer, I love tesla's engineering of the car and their charging network is far too good and too advance compare to any competition. The battery degradation, pre heating when it's cold, like all that is seamless with Tesla which makes it hard. Also the range doesnt drop as much in cold weathers compare to any other electrical. for the mustang in Quebec, the mustang loses 100 miles of range in the winter... That's crazy and show you how far ahead Tesla is from an engineering stand point But the one thing that would make me chose the mustang is that there are too many teslas out there and I hate driving a popular car lot more than i love engineering so that's why the mustang would win, also because you can now use tesla chargers too. If it wasn't for these 2 reasons I would go with the tesla
When I bought my MME the Model Y was more expensive and did not get the tax credit. One thing that really annoys me with the Tesla model 3/Y is poor paint quality. Looking at Teslas in my work parking lot made me not even look at them when i ordered my '22 MME back in October 2021. Another negative of the teslas is that hey charge $1k for freaking blue paint and other colors as well.
@@clu4u MY is definitely cheaper now when you include the tax rebate for those that qualify. Pricing was better for me when I bought my MME in June 2022.
It's the same shit when Tesla first came out everybody was like looking and staring and shit like that now they time is done it's other EVs that came on the market
Interesting take… for me the Tesla has taken a minimalist approach which is similar to MB and BMW’s. Your comment about not needing the space in the Y is funny since you’re probably a single guy and all you have to carry is your tennis racket! Most (married) people need the space as you will eventually find out!
The Mach-E also has normal car side mirror controls, on the driver's door handle. You have to use the screen on the Tesla. How that is legal, I do not know. The Tesla does not have Android Auto or Apple Car Play, which is common across the auto industry and a lot of people are used to. That might be livable, IF Tesla had our music app, RU-vid Music, in their ecosystem. We didn't want the Bluetooth experience, we wanted the interactive experience. The Model Y we test drove also rode horribly on rough roads and there were rattles coming from the back, on a brand new demo car, which was a turnoff. The Mach-E didn't have any interior noise when we test drove it, save for wind noise coming from the A pillars when my wife got it up to 85. Ford also has some crazy lease incentives on the remaining 2023s. We got a $10,500 lease bonus on top of a $3000 dealer discount on the car, which took the capitalized cost to $37K including sales tax and all fees on a car that stickered over $47K before tax. Our car is a Premium AWD standard battery with package 300A., which is to say more features than a plain Premium. So actually it was not cheaper in our case to get a Model Y, feature for feature. And there is no difference that I know of between a 2023 and 2024 Model Y. We were also able to drive ours off the lot the day we bought it, and the selling dealership went above Tesla's offer on our ICE midsize crossover trade-in. The public DCFC experience has not been bad for us, we've taken it on a trip and we also used some DCFC around town before we got the L2 charger in our garage. We haven't had any issues with public charging and only had to wait once, and that time we had to wait, it was less than 5 minutes waiting. What you give up in not getting a Tesla, besides the extra cabin room, in our case range since we have the standard battery with AWD. The highway efficiency is not the greatest on the Mach-E either since the coefficient of drag is .29 on the Mach-E vs .23 on the Model Y. I have gotten as low as 2.5 mi/kwh driving 75+ on the freeway. But that said, we usually fly and don't do a lot of road trips, so it's really somewhat irrelevant for our use case. Tesla is also much better than Ford at doing software updates, some people have gotten stuck on their Mach-Es and have had to take it to the dealer to update. Ours has been working fine so far and we have gotten multiple updates. Overall considering the ins and outs, we are very happy with our Mach-E. I wouldn't rule out buying a Tesla in the future, though.
the pricing is the killer point 😅 want to get a mach E but dont want to drop that much for it and having to deal with the dealership vs ordering one through tesla app
Never owned an ev. I definitely like the Ford better and especially since you can get adapter to use Tesla’s charging. On the other hand, I just don’t know which one is better for me. I’m buying used and looking real hard at the Ford. Am I stupid or what?
I traded in a Mach-E GT for a Model Y. Which is better is up to what you care about, the Mach-E build quality is without question better. The safety, technology, cargo space, and charging network if it’s important to you are all Tesla. As a daily driver you can’t go wrong with either one, but for a family car I prefer the Model Y.
The Mach e continues to have that cheap typical American rental car interior. Why would you want a heavy frunk lid, heavy doesn’t equate to quality and is actually the opposite and requires more braking energy and decreases range.
Ford and Chevy have agreements with Tesla to use the Tesla Super charger system, starting in 2024 and will be giving owners adapters to allow it. All but a couple manufacturers will be building EVs with the NAC (Tesla) Charge port, starting in 2025. For now, an adapter will allow it at some stations.
I sold my $100k Tesla Model X for a Mustang Mach E and even with a $100k Tesla Model X the parts seem flimsy as well as thin paint and the car squeaked and rattled a lot compared to my almost 3 year old Mustang Mach E which still drives tight like brand new and higher quality materials. Also, many Mach E owners started receiving their Tesla charging adapters and now use the Tesla Superchargers nationwide. Another thing you may not know is that the Ford Mach E phone app has a Frunk Button to remotely open the front frunk without pulling the interior handle to open. Who’s the Freemason? I noticed the logo on your car. 😊
Thanks for the review! I'm currently in the market for a new car and this is the most unbiased review ive seen about both these cars im cross shopping. Usually, i see Tesla bros or Tesla haters so i just dont know. But my biggest issue with tesla is just they are not "nice". I've never been in a Tesla where i thought, "Wow, this is really nice." Its always techy but doesn't feel "nice". Test driving the Mach-E this weekend tho so maybe i can cross it off the list then, but coming from a Q7 and really wanting an EV near 300mi range, i have a feeling i might have to compromise.
Ford has competitively dropped their prices and issued new window stickers about three months ago. My Mach-E premium with 4WD and Extended battery had a sticker reduction of $6000 and then I got a big markdown for a lease (or I could have chosen 0% financing ). Ford is competing on price and is delivering a superb car. The interior rivals the luxury brands. Oh - and we can use the Tesla Supercharger Network now with seamless billing through Blue Oval (free adaptor to arrive soon). Love the styling and love the ride.
If your worried about ccs it's gotten better fpl has jumped into the game it's seamless it's the company's fault for this issed Electrify, America needs to be addressed about this
If you never owned an electric car. Get a Mach e it resembles more of an actual ICE vehicle. Come with a ghetto key. Instrument cluster. It’s more like a car.
Tesla model 3 Highland and upcoming new model y has no rattling and removed every single negative aspect:). No panel gap, fantastic ride feel and build quality
Coming from somebody who works for Tesla, I can tell you that their build quality is trash. Their basic vehicle warranty is even further trash, and I can nearly guarantee any new Tesla owner will have a significant repair hit them within the 4 four years of ownership. I’ve had a Mach E for a year and a half and I have never had an issues charging my vehicle.
@@ChargeGo I do agree on pricing. However, I appreciate the fact I haven’t lost my ass in equity from what paid on the vehicle a year and a half ago. I can’t say the same for my friend who bought a model 3 performance a year and a half ago for 80k. I can get the same Tesla now for $47k with a tax credit lol
Sorry but the Ford floats around its suspension and brakes like sudden fall. Terrible braking experience just before a full stop, every time. However the look and design is indeed very nice.
