Played for 4hrs every time I seen him, then stepped off stage and signed every autograph and took pictures until no one was left, then finished helping load the rest of the gear.. 1 of a kind
@@Eric-ff2ii definitely, it's gotta be tough to play every other night for 15 yrs ..he did switch up from ass jack to add and 3bar then fiendish threat , but when he wants to play metal the most and the majority are there for the cuntry set I'm sure he's sick of playing the same songs ..I'm really fortunate I got to see him 10-12 times including superjoint 2 but I still would go every year if he was touring
@drtyjmmancavemusic420 it was called Superjoint Ritual. I saw them play with Morbid Angel and DevilDriver in a small club in 2003 a year before suoerjoint broke up. Hank 3 sat on a stool and shredded the whole time, it was awesome. Phil kinda made an ass of himself between songs pounding his chest with the mic calling himself the god of heavy metal..(Dio was still alive and is STILL the God, read his name mf..!) whatcha gonna do though he always had an ego lol. It was still a really badass show!!
This super talented guy could have been rich being a clone of his Grandfather. He chose to follow his heart and he deserves huge respect for that. I'm sure Hank 1 would be proud.
When I was about 17, my dad took me to a Robert Earl Keen show. Shooter Jennings opened, Hank 3 middled, and Keen closed it out. Before and after their respective sets, the entirety of the lineup mingled with the crowd, bought people drinks, lit up doinks and passed them around. To this day, best concert I’ve ever been to hands down. I got to meet the triple crown of outlaw country royalty because my dad didn’t have the communication skills to tell me he was sorry for being such a dick growing up. Fair trade, old man.
I suspect Hank Senior would be proud of this young man for sticking to his guns and following his heart, and saying f%^& you to the country establishment.
I'm a metalhead who happens to love country. I don't know how this never reached me. Thank you for putting this together. Definitely going to look this artist up!
Don't state that as if it's surprising (metal head who happens to....) True music lovers love music of all kinds... "Metal heads" (a term I don't like) who don't love & explore all music are ppl I don't waste time on, no substance, to small minded. I DO FKN LOOOOVE METAL THO!!
Saw him 3 different times in Jacksonville Beach Florida at what was at the time The Free Bird Cafe. Ronnie Van Zant' widow Opened up. Great venue for Live music. Anyhow, 3 unbelievable shows every time. The last show he came off stage & came straight to me, my girlfriend & her cousin. Said we were rocking out harder than anyone else in the crowd & had to come holler. He bought us drinks and I bought him some in return. I commented on his drummer reminding me so much of Animal from the Muppets with the wild hair and badass drumming. He thanked me and said damn Man you're right & then calling his drummer over & I told em I had some badass Bud & some Killer Moonshine which I did & then we retired to his tourbus and proceeded TO GET LIVE!!!! Literally one of the absolute hands down best nights of my entire life!!! It was just amazing. We talked music, guitars and amps, fiddles and just had a really great time. Stayed with him about 3 whole hours and he was genuinely unhappy when we had to go & he had to get on the road. I'll never forget that he insisted on us calling him Shelton and we introduced ourselves to him once inside the club when he first came to us and started talking to us and he called us by name the entire time on the tourbus and never once asked what was y'all's names again or anything like that. He was just a genuinely nice really really great dude. I made it a point to let him know that I had met Kid Rock a couple of times because of my friendship with Gary Rossington of Lynyrd Skynyrd and he said F#@k Kid Rock!!! Man that was a great great night.
@@killerkiser8541 that’s true. I’m very grateful he needed to start cutting country records to pay child support. After the 1980’s a lot of the OG country stars started slowing down. When his record came out in 1999 there wasn’t many people making real country music at that time.
I’ve had work in the music industry over the years and have heard some things from some touring friends of mine. I don’t know what the reasons are or know anything firsthand so can’t say. I do know he was one of the best concert I have seen and love listening to his records. Hopefully whatever the reason is he can overcome it and possibly hit the studio and road again.
@@bendaves77 let’s hope. It would be pretty awesome even if he didn’t tour again but started dropping records. I’ve enjoyed the demos and covers he has been releasing on his RU-vid channel the last few years.
Another great one. Hanks a class act in all the ways. He is great at the traditional country, great at the punk stuff, and great at metal. I think his grandpa is proud of him for sure 🤘
My son & his son are long time friends. When III did the tribute thing for his grandfather, the promo poster had his face next to his grandfathers & it was almost impossible to tell them apart.
I met him and hung out with him for 10 hours at a cheap motel in Knoxville Tennessee as he was touring with Superjoint Ritual which was Phil Anselmo's (of Pantera) band. He was extremely down to earth. I asked him why he chose the underground scene over the "mainstream" legacy his father and grandfather left. He said,..."Because im a fan of ugly and brutal honesty." He also said he never has to worry about money but refuses to touch his family's money. Which i took as "i make my own way from A to Z. I will say this though. He did have a significant drug issue when i met him. He was very transparent about it. Sheldon has a golden heart. Extremely kind and giving. I really hope he is doing well. Love you brother.
Right Right Right…. Hank can play and make the money and jesco can snort up the profits. The crazy thing about Jesco White is he’s not unique in any way shape or form. There’s thousands more just like him in Boone, Logan, Mingo, and Wyoming counties, no cares, ambitions or work ethic, wants everything given to him and has no moral qualms about robbing the working man. Yeah what a cool dude. 🙄
Met Hank when he toured playing w Phil Anselmo and he was the most humble dudes. He is one of the greats in music and more musicians could take a page out of his book. Long live HANK III
He had just got off his bus, headed in to the venue. Too dumbasses jumped out of the line and said take a picture.. Thanks man. I was one of them dumbasses. That picture means a lot and I still got it.
Discovered Hank3 at a Warped Tour in Ventura CA. We were walking by and his Band Assjack was playing and was so good, we watched his set. Picked up the album and then discovered his Hank3 and Country albums. Amazing stuff.
Inside stage at Stubb's, Austin, Texas circa 2001... Misfits minus Glen Danzig were playing across town. He does a great country set and then says that ain't the misfits! Rips through 30 minutes of misfits covers to end it. I'll never forget.
That one aired when I was 12 and I was absolutely on board for it. My mom on the other hand absolutely was not and I didn't hear from him again until I was 16 and found him on youtube.
I saw him at the Croc Rock, a tiny club. He played 4 sets for his four album release. Country, hardcore rap, rockabilly, heavy metal. Each set they wore different outfits. The group I took, some didn't know he played other than country. They left b/c they thought it was a different band after the country set. Their loss.
I've seen him a few times. Every show has been well worth the money. How the music evolves throughout the show is really fun and interesting to experience.
I've seen H3 live i don't even know, probably 5-6 times and he lives what he writes about, the most genuine show and personable Artist I think I've seen. He plays like 4 hours and absolutely dishes it out, finishes the show, sits on the end of the stage and shakes every hand, drinks every shot (I mean a line of people forms that lasts for a long time, I don't know how he walked back to his bus) and is pretty much an open book, who absolutely earns every red cent of that ticket price. He never disappoints and I'm grateful to have caught the Straight to Hell era live like 3 times. Hell of an Artist, hell of a down to earth person as well. If you get a chance to see him, fukn do it, trust me.
I first learned about Hank 3 from my pain specialist. They were an elderly couple that worked with people with chronic pain and they’d go to all the different music festivals. The wife used to burn CD’s for me and Hank 3 was one of them. Loved it!
I can't tell you guys how much I love Hank III, he is the man! I wish he would come back and have the biggest tour ever!! I'd pay to see him live. Hell I would even love to shake his hand an tell him thank you for all the great, badass, amazing music you have put out in your lifetime ❤ we need HANK III BACK!!!!!
Partied with him once at a county fair years ago. He was on a fair tour playing his grandfather's music. He's an amazing guy! Very down to earth and welcoming to talk to. Rosen outlaw is my favorite album of all time! Great guy!!!
I was friends with his kid for years but never had the pleasure of meeting him personally. Some of the best music to come out of Nashville in a long time.
Hank 3 rules. Ill forever love the man for gracing us with his work on the first Superjoint Ritual album. Its soo sad he never did any tours or played on the 2ns album after the 1st. When I saw them live it was next fucking level and a moment in time that probably wont be captured again. ie Phils heroin arc, and everyone just drowning in fusion hardcore and drugs. It was so influential to me I ever started using at one point and ruined 10 years of my life, but despite the bad times in jail and everything. Ill always remember it fondly.
@@nwerd7584I've been on methadone for 25yrs. Was at 245mgs at one point, now at 50mgs. And slowly weening down, been on it so long cause the first 6-7yrs i was on it. I was still shooting gram shots of H multiple times a day. Haven't touched H in 19yrs now though.
Hank 3 played a show for free in san diego way back in 2007 and walked right up to me after the show and say nice job crowd surfing. I was like hey, what a down to earth guy. Seems like a real punk rocker to me.
He literally has kept the torch burning just the same as #1, #2, & now #3 . WHY? Because that is truly the way of each one, they pay homage to the idea of having respect for those who came before, AND also doing their own thing too, and doing it WELL! Long live the power of 3. 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
@@brianschiffli2381 I will do that! I don't know if I have or have not seen it, I see so many things, sometimes, I'm not sure if it's yesterday, today, tomorrow, or sometime long ago, maybe it's just a dream🙂
First time i found out about hank 3 was when he played bass for superjoint ritual!! Im pretty sure that was before he had solo stuff?? I might be wrong though!! Thats pretty killer he did a misfits cover!! Make sense though since hes got a big punk influence!!
Hank3 is a badass..He could have sold out and took tbe easy way but he stayed true to himself and his punk roots..Hank3 is as real as the come..We love ya Hank and hope you return someday.
I saw Hank 3 in Baltimore years back maybe 2014ish, great show my dude played a 4 hour set and some drunk chick broke her leg and got carried out on a stretcher. Hell of a hellbilly show!
Nice one. I saw Shelton from his very start live on stage, unnamed opener for Beck on the Sexx Laws tour. I lost my mind! Saw him countless times after. When he started the half country/half hardcore sets he'd be so polite. "Y'all here for country, I'll give you 15 minutes to go, you ain't gonna enjoy what's next". Shows that lasted forever, the amazing Joe Buck, he killed. In November I'm seeing Shelton's good buddy & King of Western Swing Wayne Hancock with Hank IV and the Strange Band. Expecting an rockin' good time. I don't believe we'll see Shelton on the road or on vinyl again, I'm glad I saw him constantly for so long. He's a rad guy.
This was my life for 10+ years. Meet some of the greatest people via shows. It’s like by having the same taste in music gave you an automatic pass to party with the best. Would love a comeback. We need a Hank3 resurrection
😈🔱👿.. who the hell thought that the Misfits would ever show up at the Grand Ole Opry 😳😳😳... I know im not the only 1 who noticed that... I really hope glenn got to see it and have a great laugh 😂
Great doco. What a legend I feel ashamed that I'd not heard of him earlier, love his favor of punk and country. Going to enjoy exploring Shelton H. Williams' back catalog. Thank you.
I was working on my friend's Farm the year I got out of prison my buddy put this on when we were delivering vegetables told me that I reminded him of this guy a real country Outlaw and a stand up guy
Hank III is everything lame-ass Bocephus wishes he could be. Honestly one of the most badass musicians ever, he can get a crowd of country normies to jam to punk, and get a room of punk rockers to jam to country. Incredible.
My favorite artist. We’re related distantly. His mother is related to the Shelton family as am I. That’s how he got his first name and I also named my son Shelton. We never missed a III show if we could make it and I’m glad. I don’t think we’ll ever see a return but I damn sure hope I’m wrong.
saw hank3 in denver. he played every country song hes has and then played a ton of assjack it was one of the sickest show ive ever seen. and the longest.
I love me some Hank 3 , Arson Anthem , Assjack and all he is involved with ! He is not only real country , he is the real deal and real to the bone ! I recently moved to a little town in Kentucky where everybody listens to country , yet nobody ever heard of him ! Blew my mind ! So Slowly but surely I've been showing his music off and telling a bit about him to everyone who will listen , and now they love him and wonder why they are just now hearing of him lol ! I get em hooked with 7 Months 39 Days and Cecil Brown and go from there .
