No it’s not This means the TX will be built on the TNGA K platform. That platform btw not only underpins the GH, but also the Camry and rav4. So the TX will be nothing more than a gussied up large Camry 3 row crossover

Awesome new Toyota! I wish for more interior colors, and a panoramic glass in the Limited trim. By glass I mean it does not need to open, it’s just for the light. These vehicles are great for traveling and touring people. Visibility out is a must. 👏👏👏

Yes! The only choice if you want the highest trim level with a 2nd row bench seat (within the realm of reliable vehicles) is the Honda Pilot.

We got this vehicle. Max hybrid with light gray interior looks great but, upper panels around A pillar are dark and would preference on lighter color. I couldn't decide on the caramel portobello color but I like seeing the lighter color on roof and a pillars. However I'm very pleased with the light gray suede seats! It's actually so light I see it as pale gray light beige in color, with the bronze trims, it really nice. Just don't understand why the roof and A pillars are dark black. LOL seats are wonderful. A little firm but I'm comfy and I love it's power and handling on this max hybrid.

I like the straight exterior lines and airy looking interior. Seems like good van 😊 Bronze accents are quite nice on this top model. I'm guessing the silver rental spec base looks sad.

I really wish they did the same thing as Honda and did a three place second row on top trims. Preferably with a Pilot style removable seat. Cabin chairs aren't great with three kids if you want to maximize cargo space.

From Zuffenhausen to Princeton, IN on the same road on the big island of Hawaii! Two very practical vehicles from which to choose from. I’d personally still chose the 718 Spyder, but it was a really difficult decision. Seriously though, Toyota is going to sell a ton of these baby buggies, so much so that I question how much sense the regular Highlander makes in the lineup going forward. Why not just have Rav 4 for 2 row and Grand Highlander for 3 row.

Motor/generator I understand, you have added starter to the phrase. Starter/generator/motor I want to know more about that. I have my name on the list to purchase a grand highlander and they have offered a build sheet on a gas version. I turned it down because I want the hybrid max. My world isn’t ready for a Rivian but that’s what I want. BTW I’m replacing an MDX that I’ve driven 250K in 5 years.

Great review. I like the look much better than the outgoing model. The new one looks like a the natural Progression of a RAV4 to grown up adult with kids! I think Ford should be very worried as the Hybrid Max is right in the segment of the EXPLORER ST (an area ford had to itself). We previously had an EXPLORER ST and had to deal with all of fords nagging quality issues and interior fit and finish issue. WE put up with a lot and overlooked dealer service issues because we loved the twin turbo engine. Then we moved over the CX9. A superior car is almost every way, although you can many times catch the car in awkward boost moments with the turbo, we definitely missed the ford engine (always 16-18 mpg) Finally toyota has a car with good looks and an inter that looks quality and the styling inside should age well. Pair that with the new HYBRID MAX engine and 27 MPG combined! Shame we have to wait til early 2024 for the Hybrid Max. Please do a dedicated review on the Hybrid Max when it is released, it sounds like the responsible parent who wants a little fun in between shuttling JR to soccer and swimming.

I love my hybrid max! I really couldn't decide if I wanted the portobello brown but I love the gray interior suede comfy seats. I'm not one to like gray and see this color is more lighter and reflects a beige creamy look with bronze trim. We love it's power and we're mostly driving around town with 26.4 mpg I really was going to go for the hybrid that gets 34 /36 mpg but if we tow a small camper. I want to feel no issues with traveling. Plus I love that horse power! Tons of room to pack it up for a road trip. I always thought Ford explorer feels too big and truck like. This grand highlander hybrid max feels a little long but handles well and turns on a dime!

@@youtubecarspottersguide1 another four we also checked out were Toyota Venza Limited, Lexus NX350H, RX350H and RX500H. Both RXs are luxurious and refined, obviously cost more. The Venza’s value is exceptional, but the price difference between it and the NX hybrid were only a few $k. We ended up buying a 2024 NX350H, the smallest of the bunch, we don’t need much room as kids are already driving. Plus it was the best one for my bank account. :)

Grand Highlander vs CX90..... It's almost like the argument of automatic vs manual.... Grand Highlander is going to trounce the CX90 in sales because the majority of people want space, practically, and functionality and will sacrifice fun drive dynamics. Just like the CX9, I'm afraid the CX90 is going to sell in low numbers

@@MotoManTV fun driving dynamics for a 3 row baby buggy doesn't matter as much once you have kids who get car sick and I have to drive as gingerly as possible :/ I have a 2016 CX9 that I do enjoy, but I have to accept the short comings aka lack of practical storage. It was apparent when my 2nd kid arrived, and with 2 car seats and a double stroller.

If you want fuel efficiency, this GH Hybrid Limited will do just that at 35MPG combined. Want crazy power and don’t care about MPG, Durango Hellcat. If money is no object, AMG. GLS63. 😊

If packaging is the focus: Palisade, Telluride or this . . . of course, if efficiency isn't an issue, Tahoe et al. If the focus is driving dynamics with occasional use of the third row, Mazda every day, twice on Sunday.

6.3 seconds at like 3,000 ft or so? At sea level it'll probably do much better, the crown can do it in the low 5s.

Another family truckster on roids 🙂. Having been the "beige" of car makers for decades, they seem to work hard on a less boring image beside the legendary reliability. See the GR models, Supra etc. But as you mentioned, more youthful colors are needed. I hope you had some nice "Spam Specialties" while in Hawaii 😁.

The one thing that really bothers me about the new Grand Highlander has nothing to do with its great amenities and improvements in power and size. It’s when a test driver who has years of experience driving hundreds of different vehicles, describes the “ body roll” or FLOATY” feeling when changing lanes or on a curvy road. If you have driven over hundreds of thousands of miles like I have with about 40 different vehicles, that feeling is disconcerting at best. It’s a feeling of loss of control, like when you need to pass another vehicle and need to get back into the right lane on a busy highway or freeway. When I’m transporting my family, this body float feeling is worrisome. Imagine you need to make a sudden lane change with any SUV (because of their high center of gravity) a roll over is a possibility. The Honda Pilot does NOT exhibit this problem like the Grand Highlander. Just sayin.

I test drove the new Pilot and my head bobbled left to right just driving down the road quite a bit. It actually was a deal killer for me. I did not like the driving dynamics of the new Honda pilot at all.

Why does Toyota even offer The regular Highlander. This should just be The Highlander. They have Corolla Cross, Rav-4, Highlander, Grand Highlander, 4-Runner, Sequoia & The Land Cruiser otw. No one needs that many options of SUVs!

The interior materials look so cheap Don't get me wrong it has a handsome design inside and out but the material quality could look so much better for a $55k new car and a 4cyl is a no for me. I'll give Toyota props on improving the technology and features they now offer it is wonderfully executed from the new interface to the displays A+ but however, the new engine options are really disappointing almost everything new products that Toyota/Lexus releases is powered a turbo 4cyl only the new LX, GX, tundra and Sequoia still uses a 6cyl as do the upcoming Lexus TX 550h+. The Hybrid max powertrain is shared via the GH, the crown, the all-new Tacoma, the RX 500h, TX 500h it makes me worry about reliability they drop 6cyl in favor of 4cyl then they add 2 electric motors, and battery packs plus a turbo 4cyl sounds like a mechanic nightmare. I don't get why this powertrain is added to such a large 4,700LBS vehicle and then they still claim it can tow 5,000LBS. Toyota is digging its own grave they can't even produce enough cars but they keep releasing new models and they have them in stock these stealerships markup "adjusted market price" I call that bullshit. A 4cyl is acceptable in a car but not in a large family SUV that pushes $60k.

So, the average salary in the US is around $47-50k (ish) and hasn't moved in years (mine hasn't in almost 10). Why are all of the car companies making the products that we need, but pricing them out of our income? If anything with the downturn of the economy, one would think that they would make their products MORE affordable. Toyota, that's your bread and butter! Stop trying to be Lexus. Be practical and affordable Toyota.

Because people are demanding more stuff and sales reflect it. If people actually wanted affordable and basic then the Chevy Spark wouldn't be discontinued. For example the new Grand Cherokee is now cushier, more expensive, and more capable on road than ever before at the cost of some off-road capability. But that's because the people actually buying it new wanted just that: if theu wanted an off roader they would have gotten a Wrangler or gladiator. You can see comments complaining about how the approach/departure angles have suffered and how Jeep has "forsaken it's heritage", but even if the GC came exactly as they wanted it from factory those people would still only ever buy it used. Meanwhile the GC as it is will continue to sell like crazy even with the increase in price because it's exactly what most people looking for a GC want.

This is a soft family hauler with efficiency in mind. you are not gonna find 21-22” wheels. Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, Cadillac will give you those big wheels all day every day.

There's a problem on the horizon, perhaps an unintended consequence of these EV vehicles. I'm talking about the weight of these vehicles. Are our roads and bridges designed to handle this ever burgeoning increase? Something tells me the answer is no. Are we about to see bridges collapsing and sink holes become a routine occurrence? Have the EV pushers considered this?
