Is the homage to the original FJ25 worth the price?

I own this vehicle, the powertrain, design and safety sense is absolutely phenomenal. Im extremely happy with it. I did pay 57k which in retrospect feels like a lot, but when i think theres some people out there paying 77k for leather seats, bigger infotainment and more speakers i do feel better about my purchase. I think toyota should have priced these 5k lower across the board, but then again we see 80 series landcruisers selling for 45-50k so i mean.. if you want something cheaper wait for the 4runner. I imagine a similarly equipped one will be about 5k less

I’m thinking about buying one of these. Glad to see your comment. I have a 2014 4Runner which I’m keeping but my 2009 Highlander is gonna start getting too much to fix so I’m gonna get rid of that one for this. What color did you get? How is the ride?

The 4 runner is starting at 40k so I’ll say about 45ish once it’s financed

Nice review. There is a significant difference among the 1958 series and the Landcruiser Premium as well as the First Edition. Even the key fobs are different. The 1958 is pretty bare bones at $60k plus. However, very sharp Landcruiser.

Just under $82,000 Canadian for the 1958 trim with no options. This is insane for a 2 row Toyota SUV. Plus you have to use premium fuel (according to the owners manual). That makes no sense when it is the same engine and transmission combination with the same HP and torque numbers as the Tacoma hybrid which uses regular fuel. FOr that kind of money and premium fuel it's a hard pass for me!

I'm digging that necessitated higher lifting of heavy loads to the rear and the diminished 37.5 cubic feet of usable utility. The current 4Runner is 47.2 cubic feet. Less is more, I guess. The new 4Runner will suffer the same fate. 1958 edition $58K out the door in 2024!

Still enjoying my Pathfinder! 😂 this is an interesting vehicle, I think another suv is coming from Toyota too. Yes how many do they need? 😂

Dealerships that do a bunch of add-ons to these 1958’s are literally killing the idea that Toyota had. What should be no more than $57,000 with destination is becoming GX 550 territory. I don’t understand why dealerships do this. It’s such an idiotic move. You literally have high interest rates already, no one is going to spring $64,000 for a basic cloth seats Land Cruiser the $57,000 is imperative that it stays within that range. I’m not the only one that thinks this my local dealership in Ohio said the same thing why would we do a bunch of add-ons to something that’s supposed to be affordable and let the person or the owner do what they want to it.

When you said back to basics, you were not kidding. Look of the dash and steering wheel controls is 1990’s. Cloth seats look rough. This one not for me.

I like the back to basics idea, but the price difference between this and the Landcruiser edition is not that much, and the interior seems much better. If it were like $45k, it might make more sense.

Landcruiser has always been a high priced vehicle. Always considered a subtle luxury marque. Hence the high price and status with the Landcruiser name.

For the interior in this, $48,000 seems about right, it is really overpriced. I'm curious to see if these sell at all at this price point once the initial demand for the new toy fades. I anticipate big discounts and good finance deals after two years. The Land Cruiser edition makes way more sense at the price point, but is overpriced too, should start at $55,000 for what you get and max out at $65,000. At these prices, these are vehicles for people making over $200,000 per year. Which is perhaps around 10% of the overall US population, and only a small percent of them will be interested in the Land Cruiser, yet alone driving around in a Tupperware container. Now a lot of people making a lot less will get into these, but a poor financial decision. These are awesome very capable vehicles and Toyota did a great job with design. Too bad they screwed up all their American based vehicles and made them look like they are designed for a 14 year old boy inside and out.

Those side steps are absolutely horrible on a Landcruiser.

WHY can’t we get the decent pricing like other countries get. 55k is not a back to basics price. Not sure if I’m the only one that feels this but all this extra “feature” junk they add I can totally do without for a cheaper priced vehicle.

I agree on the extras. The price? Not bad for a Land Cruiser.

What a joke. A homage to the original 58 FJ25? Having owned and own a 64 FJ40 this is an insult to compare this to those. More closer to the fj55 but where is the utility? This is not the vehicle to take out on the trails. It is not reminiscent of any FJ25 and shares none of the design cues of the same ie. Grill, two tone paint (Body Roof) profile. The current jeep is an example of where they should have gone after the FJ series but probably not profitable enough to produce. Instead we got another boring, bloated, overpriced look alike SUV that is not reflective of the great FJs of the past.
