On Saturday, February 3, the 2024 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in Orlando, Florida, featured shocking upsets and breakthrough runs with five runners earning spots on Team USA headed to the Paris Games this summer.

Winning in 2:09:05, Conner Mantz and runner-up Clayton Young (2:09:06) made the Olympic team on the men’s side. In the women’s race, Fiona O’Keeffe claimed the title in 2:22:10, Emily Sisson finished second in 2:22:42, and Dakotah Lindwurm placed third in 2:25:31 to qualify.

He didn't unlock a spot (i.e., ran too slow) so the talk was with the ones that did unlock spots. Loved that Korir rocked his VaporFly 3's at the media event!!! Happy for him to finish 3rd this year as he was so close in 2020!!

Top 3 who have met the Olympic standard. Only Mantz and Young have met the Olympic standard (in another race).

I almost feel sorrow for the women that did not make the cut because they have been working so hard for so long. But were was Molly? OK, I see now that she injured her knee. Dang that girl has some bad luck.

The qualification time for men’s marathon France Olympic is 2hours 8mins But why the American men’s get 2hours 9mins and qualified 🤔

The US men had already unlocked two spots at the Olympics (Conner Mantz and Clayton Youg run under the qualifying time in prior races). On Saturday they were racing again to determine who gets to go to the Olympics. If someone run under the qualifying time, the US would get a third spot. This means that if you run at or under the qualifying time you're not guaranteered a spot at the Olympics, you still have to race again in the US trials.

The reporter said the top 2 automatically are in the team. The third placer though, the organizers will still “deliberate.” Hmm….

@@Amtcboy because you have to achieve a qualifying time and he didnt, countries are awarded discretionary places dependant on standards reached, so they have to wait and see what other countries achieve

@@jensmith3719 qualifying time for men (Olympics) is 2:08:10. If followed, no one qualified. Yup, organizers’ discretion.

@@AmtcboyThe two first guys already have ran under 2:08, they just needed to secure a spot in the team (which they did)running the trials. The third guy hasn’t ran under 2:08 yet.
