Are twelve watches too much, or not enough? I sometimes look at the collection and feel like it is too much, but also I have a hard time selling off watches, even if I hardly wear them.

New to the channel as of today. Loved this. I hope to get to a similar amount one day. The Stowa is stunning, the GS, Tudor DD and Subby are my fave,. pure class. Thank you for sharing, Best regards, TGV

TGV, it is an honor, I have been watching your videos for many years and never imagined that you would comment on one of my videos. Thanks for stopping by and checking out this video. The Stowa Marine Original is a watch that I wanted for many years and was so happy to finally add it to the collection. I one day hope to own a Rolex Day Date, but until then, I have the Tudor DD to enjoy.

Happy new year and thanks for sharing. I think trying to keep one watch from each brand is not easy. I say to just keep what you favor the most regardless of brand. I only have a couple of luxury watches but my collection is huge. My goal this year is to downsize my collection by about 75% which would bring it down to about 50 pieces.
@WrongTimeWatch
@WrongTimeWatch 6 месяцев назад
Thanks for watching. That sounds like a good goal. I would be happy to cut my collection in half. I am not exactly sure what that would bring me down to, but I would feel a lot better about it for sure.

Awesome looking box full 'o watches, Kevin! The GS Spring Drive may be my favorite from the bunch, but it would be hard for me to choose just one....so many nice pieces here. I know you've got tons of watches outside of this group!

Awesome collection, Kevin! It is so hard to decide on an ideal watch collection number. I have to reduce mine by a great deal, but not sure how to go about it. The selling process is difficult at best, so I have to figure out a strategy. One thing is for sure and that is that I'm also going to try hard not to buy anything this year, or at the very least be very selective with anything I buy funded by watches I sell. Lets see how this goes. Good luck!

Thanks for watching! I have a few different Damasko watches, and I have been trying to decide which one will stay in the collection. This is my only one with a rotating bezel, and the bezel action is so good. So, I think this is the one that will stay, or I might replace it with a similar model in the future. I would rather have a timing bezel than a dual time bezel.

Excellent choices. I've purged this year and sold all of my autos except for a Seiko SBDC127 (Blue Dial MM200). I do really think the SJE093 is a excellent value that I would consider. I also an enamored with Sinn and Damakso although Damasko seems to have phased out some the models I like with the unique day/date wheel. One crazy option I may look at is a Tag Heuer Aquaracer 200 Titanium solar although I'd try one of those only at an AD before I'd buy. Keep up the nice content!

Some mental gymnastics goes into building a 12 watch collection but then having a drawer full of 12 more watches. Made me chuckle, because as enthusiasts its hard to pick just a few. Good rule is if it sits for more than a month and doesn't get worn, it goes for sale. Some really cool stuff here though. Big fan of the Date+Day and the Seiko!
@WrongTimeWatch
@WrongTimeWatch 3 месяца назад
That is a good rule for sure. I am going to try very hard to implement that with a few exceptions. The "problem" is that I have a few watches that I could wear all the time and be happy, but I also like my other watches that hardly get any wrist time. However, that is a lot of money just sitting there, so I need to just sell them. I also need to find a bracelet for my date day, so that I will wear it more often as well.

Great collection man! Honestly this can easily go down to 10 or even less. I would personally get rid of one of the Sinn’s, Stova, Demasco and Tuna and maybe get one nice dress piece (GS elegance collection, Cartier Tank, or a vintage Universal Geneve or Reverso) and call it a day. The rest of the collection looks in place!
@WrongTimeWatch
@WrongTimeWatch 6 месяцев назад
Thank you, I appreciate the feedback. I actually just sold a GS SGBM221, it was a very good looking watch, and I kind of regret selling it, but I don't know how much I would have actually worn the watch. I rarely wear a suit, and when I do, I wear the snowflake. I would like to reduce the collection size even further than this 12 watch collection, but I need to get down to 12 watches first.

But set goals on what you like the look of , i have been collecting for 10yrs . sell the ones you dont need and buy one big expensive watch you really want . Only one wrist , and buy what you can wear on a rotational basis . Some cracking watches you have there .

Nice collection, Chapeau! I would urge caution for having a fixed, hard and fast “rule” for only one watch per brand. Likewise, I’ve seen collectors who will only collect watches from one given brand and ignore everything else. Ok, it might suit some, but what happens when a brand launches a watch that you love, but you already own an equally lovely watch from that brand? Will you refuse to buy it? Will you force yourself to sell your existing one? I buy watches that I like, that I can afford and that I know I will wear regularly. Note regularly, not necessarily frequently. To that end, my collection is around 15 watches; a core half dozen get worn at least once a week, another half dozen get worn a couple of times a month, and a couple just get an outing on specific occasions. Each one has its role and it’s place. And over half are quartz too! Keep up the good work and keep well :-)
@WrongTimeWatch
@WrongTimeWatch 6 месяцев назад
Thank you. I do struggle with making, and keeping rules. I try to justify which watches to keep, and which watches to sell based on rules. I just need to figure out what 12, 24, 48, whatever number of watches I want to keep and sell the rest. The "problem" that I have with quartz watches is that I don't wear them enough, and when I do the battery has died, or the solar charge has all been used up.

The longer I’m in the hobby the less I enjoy having too many watches. I’ve also found myself trying to justify the amount I have by putting them into categories, those under 200 💰 like you mentioned or those that are unworn or other rules. I agree, I think there is a natural bell curve to the watch collecting hobby. Start out with a small collection, then get a bunch of watches, then go back to a small collection again. I am reasonably new to the hobby. And there’s a running theme I see among 99% of watch collectors. And it’s trying to whittle down their collections. I think 12 is still quite a high number, but it’s not a crazy one. If you’re struggling getting it to 12. Try getting it as close as possible and have a one in one out scheme until you manage to achieve that figure. Most watch collectors sweet number seems to be no more than 10 from the ones I’ve personally seen. But 12. Is a logical and doable number for sure! Great collection btw.

I would drop the black bay, too similar to the no-date sub. Love the sub and speedy. I like the GS, but never liked the band and the profile. Would still keep it though. The Sinn is cool, but you already have multiple black divers, sell it. Sell the Seiko SJE, no need for yet another black dial diver. Get rid of the Domesko, no need for even another black dial diver. Stova is a keeper. But maybe down the road you could upgrade it to a Glaschutte or Lange. Sinn GMT. At least it isn’t a black diver. Keep it. Tudor Ranger is a keeper for now like you said. Tudor Prince - I kind of like this one. Keep it for now, but maybe swap it out for a Datejust. You have a great collection, but they are all basically the same watch! Start going with some different dials and complications. Maybe a blue dial, red dial, green dial or slate dial would be a nice alternative. I like to have a variety of dial colors, brands, complications, shapes and materials etc. Rolex Bluesy Rolex Green OP Black Breitling Chronomat 2-tone yg band angled not bullets. Black Omega Speedmaster Racing with orange hands and the leather strap. Slate Blue Omega Seamaster Aquaterra small seconds rubber strap 2-tone rose gold. Breitling Super Ocean brown to black bronze with rubber strap. Jacob & Co ACM 3 red dial. Frank Mueller Vanguard black dial. William Wood Valiant. Black dial diver wirh bronze accents. Like the domed crystal and classic look, but I really should let it go. Tissot PRX80 - Blue Dial. I have a few other cheapies. Holes in my lineup - No Dress Watch! no GMT! No White Dial! No German Watches! No holy Trinity! No GS! No Moonphase! I still have a few spots left to try to fill some of those holes! Feel free to give me some suggestions!

Nice collection! My experience so far: I allowed my collection to fill a 12-slot box and half-fill an additional 10-slot box, and I decided to start selling. Especially at first, it was dead easy to choose watches I wasn't ever wearing and list them. If I'm not ever reaching for a watch, it probably will lose its place in my collection. Not the watch's fault ; I've just moved on. _"It's not you, it's me."_ I've actually enjoyed the process of selling & using some of the proceeds to fund new purchases. I feel like I'm making a leaner & meaner collection, full of watches that still turn my crank. I've been keeping the collection contained in the 12-slot box this year, and decisions about what to sell are getting tougher, but I'm enjoying the hobby more with this self-imposed constraint. Anyway that's just one man's experience. For some collectors, the right size could be 3 watches, or it could be 15, or 50+. It's a popular point of view that we should wear the watches we collect, but I understand some collectors just like to _have_ things and I think that's completely valid. There's not really a wrong way to collect -- if you're enjoying yourself, you're doing it right. 👍

My goal is to really wear what I own. This is of course all just personal opinion, but more than 2 or 3 seems too much and just a waste of money if I am not wearing them. There are other ways to appreciate the hobby, not just buying. 12 watches in a collection to me just means the owner is not wearing them. Great pieces, btw! Out of these 12, I would definitely keep the Tudor 36mm as a dress watch and the Seiko Tuna as a beater/sports watch. I would sell the rest, and use a portion of the money to fund a watch-related trip to Switzerland, Germany or Japan and visit some of the factories, manufactures and museums. Among the 12 you showed here, I don't really see a watch that I would wear daily (which in my case is to the office). I would be leaning towards something with a blue dial, bracelet, without a rotating bezel, and a movement that can be easily serviced by any local watchmaker. Something like an Oris Artelier Date.

just curious on your opinion on the all-to-common take from collectors "my goal this year is to pare down my collection" Why? Unless you need the cash, or you absolutely hate a piece, I don't see the point of having a goal of getting to a smaller collection. I get your guilt comment. But, unless you're putting yourself in financial hardship, dont ever feel guilty. If it brings you joy, then enjoy. The "I don't wear it that much" I don't think is a good reason. If you like a piece, keep it. Who cares if you have 10 or 100. Actually, having watches one doesnt wear much, you get the same rush of newness as from buying a new piece when you revisit it, without laying out the cash. Interested in your opinion
