The saddest job in the world is being a WNBA courtside commentator. every game you lose a piece of your soul because you cant be honest and laugh the entire game.
@@thee_morpheus She's faking it. Her voice is not that deep. Also she was calling the guys in the NBA little meanwhile any High school player with some skill and over 6ft would destroy her team.
@@standardofexcellence You would be right if this was a amateur basketball, but this the NBA anyone could do that 3, I did it with a broken hand when I was playing with friends, what is her excuse?
It’s unbelievable the lack of skill and coordination displayed by these so called athletes. It’s like watching a group of toddlers learning to walk and play for the first time.
I like how half these fails are Greiner and *HE’S* “the best” they got. 😂😂 Comment has been edited based on similar suggestions within the replies that I 100% agree with. (Edit is in bold)
I give a whole lot of credit to the people calling the game for TV. I think they are the true professionals. To not see a 3pt. brick and NOT scream out to their partner, “Wow, did you see that? That sucked!”. Is impressive in my book.
2:01 is by far the best. Jump ball gets won by the girl like a foot shorter than the other Ball immediately gets turned over Girl drives hard through the lane against no defense She doesn't pick a side, just goes right down the middle of the lane Airballs a floater from 8 ft out Ball starts going the other way Different girl commits a (minor) blocking foul that isn't called The girl who got away with the foul throws a mini hissy fit for some inexplicable reason
The WNBA defense has to be top drawer stuff. The defenders literally know the shooter will miss the basket, so instead of spending energy making the block they simply leave the attacker to make a fool of themselves. #amazin
My sister back in high school was really good, she even played on the boys team back in jr high(cuz there weren't enough girls to form a team). She was looking at college scholarships and was being invited to competitions around the country. She probably could've made it into the WNBA after college. Late in high school she got dropkicked in the middle of the game and flipped and landed knee first shattering her ACL. I feel horrible for her, especially knowing how much an ACL tear sucks, I got one too, but damn am I glad I didn't get guilt tripped into going to ANY WNBA games.
True story: In 2003, I was a college kid working at a Lifetime Fitness in Houston Texas. One of the personal trainers was a former center (granted, not a very well known or productive one) of the Sacramento Monarchs. One day we played 1-on-1 to 10. I don’t recall her name, but she was a massive woman. About 6’5 and had some meat on the bones. I am a 5’9 195 pound white guy who never played basketball past 9th grade and hardly hooped anymore at all. She won 10-8. That’s all you need to know about the level of talent in the wnba.
I have a similar story. Literally same exact year. My buddies sister, a Future Wnba player in college at a D1 school, showed up to our college. We’re both guards of similar height 5’8-5’9. Now I played in high school, was pretty decent. It was a bloodbath. She could shoot, but everything else was below average and SLOW. She couldn’t stop me from getting shy shot I wanted, either around her or shoulder down and through her. Physically it’s another universe, like I was beating up on a 13 year old.
@@dapper892 exactly man! It’s just a completely different ballgame. I was able to score 8 on her by just muscling her with my strength. If I was half as good as you, I probably would have skunked her. Glad you gave it to her good lol.
When I was a freshman in HS way back in 94 Stephanie White was the big local talent. She was a Senior that year IIRC, and she was going to go to Purdue. She was by far the best women's basketball player in the state that year... I did get to see her do drills and practice against some HS boys. She could keep up with them, but it was against single A level talent. She was far better than the boys at shooting, ball handling, and dribbling. But she didn't have the strength or height. So it was roughly equal. She went on to play 4-5 season in the WNBA after heling lead Purdue to the Women's national title, and currently coaches the pro team in CT. The earlier WNBA looked a LOT better than current. I think the talent pool is far too diluted, and the big names are not fundamentally sound like some of the earlier players like Lisa Leslie. I personally thing that the NBA is sorely lacking in basketball IQ, but their athletic talent hides the huge chunks of the game that many of the players are missing. Mostly because so many of them miss out on most of a college career.
If true then it proves my claim about myself true. I’m 100% certain that high school me would destroy any WNBA starting lineup. I’m now 40 and I’m sure with just a few weeks of practice I could take any of them 1v1. They can barely dunk and I’ve been doing that since grade 8.
@@systematic101 It is an honest story, yes. Well, I could never dunk, so you have me there! And I agree with you. I also played in a pick up game once where a Missouri State women’s basketball player matched up against me. I locked her down on almost every play. She was about my height, 5’10, but I was much stronger and more athletic. Even though Missouri State isn’t a powerhouse, anyone of their men’s team players would easily shut me down. So, like we said … there is no comparison. A good men’s high school basketball team would annihilate any WNBA team. lol
Dude, these crowds look like they are watching a chess match. I literally heard one person cough. I shouldnt have that sort of clarity at a sporting event, unless its right before the national anthem.
honestly in the past i never went out of my way to disrespect or trash the WNBA...but lately with ESPN shoving it down people's throats since 2017 with this equal pay shit, i can't help but take some delight in seeing how bad the wnba actually is. i feel the same way about women's soccer. I don't really even enjoy soccer all that much to begin with. Women's soccer is like 100000x less entertaining. But everyone acts like it's this incredible spectacle
@@daantee women's soccer has definitely grown for sure...but personally i just don't find it that entertaining at all. I mean to be fair, i'll watch men's soccer but it's not really on the top of my list either I forgot to mention women's hockey. I find women's hockey to be pretty much unwatchable
that's the thing. people have often said, "Any one of these players could school you." Yeah no shit lol. I suck at basketball. The difference is, these players aren't that great either BUT they're still getting paid
@@superrbx you realize if they were at the same level they could play in the nba right? There’s no rule stating that women can’t join the nba. Most college players get paid nothing and could trash these wnba players
That was very strange to see in professional sports. It's like they need the highlights so bad that the players are told to let her dunk without defending her. And she still screwed up. Wow.
I thought the same thing sooo many times. Wide open and close to the goal, and passes into a worst situation .had me scratching my head many times watching that
0:48 It blows my mind how not a single player tried to stop her from attempting that dunk. Hell, one girl even moved out of the way bruh. Tf are they doing.
I have always said, some of the most underpaid sportscasters are the ones calling the WNBA games The level of patience they have for calling nothing but turnovers one after another is amazing
I'm 29, 5'6'', fairly unfit and probably played about 10 hours of basketball in my entire life, there's missed shots in this video that I know for a fact even I would have made 😂
When Clay Travis said a high school boys state championship team could beat the WNBA champs, he vastly underrated high school boys state championship teams.
You get me a 24 Hr Fitness membership and about two hours and I could assemble a team of rando men playing at midnight that would go undefeated for at least 7 seasons against the WNBA all stars. I’d be the coach.
I'm 69 years old. I remember playing like this when we were 8, 9, 10 years of age in the youth league. Not understanding floor spacing, missing layups, missing follow-up shots, throwing air balls, even missing foul shots, etc. I'm surprised to see paid professionals play this way.
I love how the camera is never allowed to show the arena and how "full" it is 😂. These announcer's probably have a specific script to follow to make it sound better.
“Alright folks! It’s a real crowd in here tonight! All 15 of the fans were able to make it and promised to stay until halftime! They are in for a real treat tonight!”
Griner sounds like a man, fueling the theories that maybe Brittany is really Brett or some guy's name. This whole league fails on shooting the ball, some easy shots, absolutely missed.
The league would probably make more scratch if they regularly publish compilations of bricks, air balls and other head scratcher highlights that people claim are too painful to watch but secretly watch anyway for their entertainment value. 10-min videos with 4 ads each, that's google money in the bank
As a 6'1 white male, I made Baylor's walk on try outs. I never would have played. My family discouraged me from being a practice dummy. Haven't touched a ball in 25 years. I guarantee w/ 6 months of practice I could destroy Griner. Wish I could make it happen.
Pretty sure the worst nba player would absolutely destroy the best 5 wnba players by himself. It would be an absolute blowout. Likely 150 to maybe 10 lucky points.
I was a follower of the WNBA when it first started and unfortunately rather than the play improving, the number of very good players and the overall skill level of the players seems to have gotten worse. Expansion of the league before developing more elite players has diluted the level of play even more.
I love how the commentators don't even react to the air balls, multiple missed layups, and defenders walking away from the ball. It is as if they just accept the bad level of play..
