.. and i have a question about passing compression. Ive been out of the game for about 15years. whats the deal with passing after hitting? is it good or bad, im assuming its the life of the bat? They dont test compression in our city league, they just make sure its stamped usssa. Sorry im a rookie its been awhile.

I only hit the Worth Platinums. It gets really hot in Texas and if I use real balls they only last me one summer maybe. Then they are mush.

The 2 piece Bedlam is still going for me at about 200 swings. I used it in the slowmo video.

Thanks, I usually swing a long barrel 1oz endload so leaning towards Riley, but if Bedlam lasts longer and similar preforming might just have to try, can get both for pretty much same price right now

In the context of a game, it doesn't help to try and train getting the fastest ball speed.

In the context of a bat review, batted ball speed is one of the most important factors as it correlates to performance, compression, and is one of the values in the BPF certification requirement of

@MarraSoftball I understand your points, and they are very valid. However, for it to be useful data, you would have to take away a lot of variables. I use it to show about what speed I get when I hit the ball down on a line. So, from bat to bat, people could see if there is a difference. But from an actual review standpoint, it doesn't show much. You would need to have a robot swing the bats the same speed every swing. And the bats would all need to be testing at the same compression. I have also hit different speeds on different pocket radars with the same bat/swing.

@@hittingwiththenation my crew has pocket radars. They’re all testing within the +\- 1mph ball speed of one another which is the tolerance range. I’m aware of the variables. That’s why it takes the same ball, on a tee, hit in the same spot of the bat. That’s why one must use statistical tools once the mph is exported to show anything meaningful. Specifically, an IMR control chart, followed by an ANOVA to show if the data sets are truly the same within 95% confidence (3 standard deviation). I’m a scientist/engineer and a former member of the ASTM softball/baseball chapter. This is the stuff I live for. Considering battled ball velocity is literally the thing that decides whether a bat gets certified or not, radar is the only metric that means anything assuming you create the most like for like conditions and are skilled enough to be as consistent as possible. Most of the time when people say radar doesn’t mean anything, or is stupid, it’s from folks that don’t know how it all works together, and they get confused when it’s not producing values they expect. That’s the beauty of science - it doesn’t care what you expect, it is what it is.
