This 11th Gen hatchback is realllllly growing on me----especially those front lines, running from the window to the front windshield, it's a gorgeous design. The visibility in the front is more than acceptable, and not-too-bad in the rear too. This Hybrid is a winner..

Fyi, the vent underneath the seat is for the hybrid battery. It just pulls in air from the cabin to cool itself down, heat itself up or whatever! My 2019 insight has that. The 9th gen Accord hybrids had the vents flanking the rear seats

One thing people need to realize is that the total system horsepower of 204 is not achievable at US road legal speeds, and the 181 hp from the electric motor is only accessible when the battery is charged. When the battery is depleted, the engine's 141 horsepower goes through the generator and what's left is about 127 hp after losses. This is a minor thing that shouldn't matter . The vast majority of the time, the battery is charged enough to have 181 hp on tap. Assuming 1kWh of usable battery space, this means with the engine running full steam, a full battery will let you produce full 181 hp for 90 seconds

This is perfect!!! I have been saying this for years now. The engine should only act as a generator for electric motors. They shouldn't even be simulating gear shifts. The engine needs to be at peak efficiency at one rpm and you'd be able to have a quieter less powerful engine to charge the batteries which in turn power the electric motors.

My 1999 Accord V-6 had 200hp…crazy talk! I owned an FK8 so it’s interesting to see a Civic Hybrid consistently hitting 6 sec 0-60 times when my FK8 would’ve been mid 5’s if I held my tongue just right!😁 I’m just waiting for that view chasing RU-vidr to equip one of these hybrids with all of those lightweight carbon fiber parts that they put on the Acura Type S,minus the rear seat delete(unless cooling vents can be installed on that carbon fiber piece over the battery pack😁) Too bad the engine isn’t more than a generator/battery charger as it would’ve been interesting to see if Jackson Racing could’ve supercharged it like the CRZ.

A friend got 59mpg on this same 2025 Honda hybrid twice. You just need to know how the car works. Engine fully locks to the Trans via an actual clutch plate above 60mph where the engine is most efficient. otherwise, engine mostly stays at 2000rpm to charge the battery and provide power to the E-Motor. Drive it below 39mph in the city and its electric only mode which will give you excellent MPG.

I can totally fault Honda for not giving HVAC controls in the rear seat. And, I can certainly fault them for not giving USB charging in the rear seat, or at least a 12 volt. And third, I can fault them, along with a number of other manufacturers, for doing that bizarre thing where the only give one rear seatback pocket. What the hell is that? How much more could it possibly cost them to put in one more seatback pocket? Those arguably small things are very irritating. This is a 2025 car, and it's not like it's priced at $22,000 dollars. This top end trim has an MSRP of around $32,000, so some, if not all, of those cost cutting moves are unacceptable and inexcusable.

Exactly, no charging in the rear seats is stupid, last year civics had charging, why remove it ???
@xanerosro95
@xanerosro95 11 дней назад
At this point, it's clear that the Civic hybrid competes with the Prius rather than the Corolla hybrid in both price and performance. While both sadly lack rear AC, the Civic falls behind on comfort features when the top trim doesn't have ventilated seats or rear USB ports, while the Prius does. Makes it a hard choice for me living in a hot climate.

Regen setting does not auto cancel in sport mode, it does in the other modes. The reasons become apparent once you have put some time behind the wheel. On a twisty road in sport mode the fixed regen setting is very much like driving in a lower gear where you are constantly accelerating and decelerating. On normal streets or highways in normal mode it is better for it to auto cancel rather than remain fixed so that when you take your foot off the pedal the car will not decelerate but instead will switch into EV mode.

Ok so I have a few thoughts about this. The Atkinson cycle engine, plus the two different generators makes me worried about a) mechanical longevity and b) service if things go wrong. There is definitely the charm of an EV with all that torque right from launch. The car looks pretty nice, especially for 30k. It's just an EV that fixes the main problem, charging. I mean yeah its a gas motor making the electricity but it's better than nothing.

What is an Atkinson cycle motor? I read up and still need an ELI5.

Atkinson cycle leaves the intake valve open for about 20% of the compression stroke pushing some of the air back into the intake rather than closing it at the bottom of the intake stroke. Theres a smaller intake charge which burns more efficiently during combustion. You gain efficiency but lose low end power. Hybrids can use this since at low revs the battery powers the wheels. Atkinson cycle can be implemented part time on Otto Cycle vehicles with variable valve timing as well (pretty sure LC500 does this).

Does something like a BMW 330i or Audi A4 actually provide a more fun driving experience than this? I know they'll be a bit faster, have higher quality interiors, and better NVH, but as far as fun to drive daily, would they actually give you more?

The thing about modern German cars like those BMW and Audi sedans is that they're so quiet and smooth, that they're boring unless you're driving way too fast. The steering is quite numb on recent BMWs also. But these Civics, they're fun to drive at all speeds! Especially the Civic Si, which only comes in stick shift, with that awesome limited slip differential. Driven conservatively, the Si can achieve 45+ mpg on the highway quite easily.

Why did they remove the rear seats charging ? Last year they had charging on the center console for back passengers ? Seems like an unintelligent thing to do.

Last year there was no civic hybrid

@@TedwardDrives no but there was a civic hatchback and it’s basically the same design overall just the front is a bit different, still odd to remove a good feature that a lot of people would find useful.

@@00PIHUM00 Honda seems to do this for some reason. For example, the first year of the 11th gen Si had no heated seats. And then they brought that feature back for this year. I wish they didn't play that game.
