Everyone wanted the CX-60 that's sold overseas, not a CX-90 with the third row seats deleted and some black trim. It makes no sense to pretend that this is a different vehicle than a CX-90. At the very least, Mazda should have restyled the bulbous rear end.
I genuinely hope this flops we don't need more overpriced crossovers. Most people are struggling for cash and more companies keep releasing way too expensive suvs killing off cheaper actually affordable cars. Mazda used to be a genuinely budget friendly alternative brand but now they're just trying to push themselves upmarket like honda and Toyota.
Could be worse. They could do the Stellantis/FCA/Jeep thing where the Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, and Grand Cherokee Sport are three completely separate vehicles. The Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator are two related vehicles with different names. The Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are just different trim levels of the same vehicle. No consistency whatsoever.
Grand Cherokee Sport? I've never heard of that one before. I know of the Cherokee (which has been discontinued BTW), the Grand Cherokee and the Grand Cherokee L (which is just a longer Grand Cherokee with a third row).
Personally, loaded CX-50. But the CX-50 is significantly smaller than the 70. I don’t have a family, or use the back seats every day, so I don’t rely on the rear seat room. If you have kids or use the car for Lyft/Uber I would go with the 70.
In Ont, the model Y is 25000 off with the Tesla price drop and govt incentive... 25k off with recent reliability increase, thats hard to beat and I'm a gas person.
They even left the CX90 3rd row cupholders in place. I mean ... 🤣. On a brighter note, based on other reviews Mazda stated(supposably) they cleared the transmission's issues updated the suspension and made other tweaks to the drivetrain, I guess the negative feedback they got from the CX 90 owners paid off (a little) but the fact remains, in a nutshell this is a CX90 without the 3rd row, with power folding backseats, modified bumpers and Alexa as an option for the infotainment. Other reviewers said the Inline6's tranny is still jerky sometimes so probably they fixed it as much as they can but the "real fix" will probably come with the next gen. Maybe they will swap the wet clutch with a torque converter to make it smoother
When the CX-70 was announced I thought it was a joke. Turns out it is but not the “haha funny” kind. I’ve owned 7 Mazdas since 2008. No more… it is seriously disappointing to see what Mazda has become.
The disappointment comes because people buy into rumor mill and unofficial information. Based on Mazda press releases at no point in time there was any promise made to bring CX-60 to the USA.
Where’s the CX-5 Hybrid? I had high hopes for the CX-70, but considering it’s basically a CX-90 with mediocre hybrid MPG…it’s a hard pass for me. Mazda needs a hybrid with 40+ MPG at least. If they can’t deliver that, then a new Toyota is looking very tempting.
