Royal Enfield's Hunter 350, aimed at attracting a younger audience, has proven successful in sales due to its affordability, compact design, and stylish appearance. However, its performance has been a drawback, struggling to sustain high speeds despite a 15 kg weight reduction compared to the Classic 350. Recent spy shots suggest Royal Enfield is testing a new roadster, likely the Hunter 450, featuring significant design changes.

Makes perfect sense it’s the new Hunter. This is the answer to the Triumph Speed 400, which is clearly Triumph’s answer to compete with RE.

My dad took a ride on the Triumph yesterday. Fantastic performance but cramped and lacks the retro feel. Could the 450 be the answer?

@@mattdog1982 I tested the speed 400. I agree compared to the hunter 350 the triumph designers best it with the ugly stick. That aside first gear is way too short, I think they used the same gearbox in their enduro model for off road crawl and made it so short for new riders can just dump the clutch. I. City riding the gearbox in the speed 400 is higher racing up and down whiting 6 speed. The hunter is really 4 speed with 5th gear as an over drive. I prefer the hunter for city riding if I wanted 6 speed box and right racing powerful bike I buy a sports bike. Full disclosure I own a hunter and only too the speed 400 for a 40 min unsupervised test ride.

I'm in Love with 350............ and 20 more horses is a nice update............ I'm little confused .....but I still love 350 until I hear the sound of 450. And I don't need extra power ........... We will see , soon I hope.

Finally. Classic, bullet and meteor cna have the 350, they're bike intended to chill, relax and explore. The hunter truly needed a better engine, especially if they want to sell it into the western market. Here I think RE mostly sold meteors, classics and a mix of the various 650s

The market sector 400, 450, is really heating up, as the Asian markets demonstrate, I think it is going to be very important for Royal Enfield, to keep pace with market demand and whether it is a Hunter, or a Scram, the competition for market share is the principle driver, bring it on, either way we as consumers get the benefits. I like the look of this bike, I believe Royal Enfield, will want multi- role functionality and also the ability to customise, which in Asia, is a strong expression. Yehaa, much love.

I have a Meteor 350 and it is so underpowered for the UK market. It's time that RE realised that there are other 'classic' manufacturers that are overtaking them. RE must recognise that although the Indian market is huge, the requirements of the Indian and European market are very different. They need to produce motorcycles for the home market with cheap motorcycles with exceptional fuel economy. But they also need to make bikes more suited to the rest of the world. Europe want performance and fuel economy is not so important. RE should upgrade the power of the 350 motors to 27 bhp for the European market. This is not a huge increase and would not affect reliability but would suddenly make it a great bike. Sadly, I'm now looking at the Triumph 400 and selling the Meteor.

well I can't get past having no twin shock arrangement, that's the essence of this niche. You touched on the way RE could go, ie upping the tune of engine & leaving everything else as is. You only need to look at the trouble HD had when changing from Sportster to the Street customers didn't request that path. I know regulators are forcing this change (emissions) but I can't believe millions of low cc air-cooled m/c's seriously contribute to overall CO2 levels.

As the owner of a Meteor 350, which I would be really happy with if it had at least 10 more horsepower, and the Himalayan is too 'enduro' for me, I hope that this new Hunter/Scram (?) will have a 19-inch front wheel, or at least 18. If it should have a 17-inch wheel I will discard it.

I agree with you about the HP. But I hate radiators! I love the solid feel and simplicity of my meteor and I'm convinced there's more power in the J series and they just wont let us have it. For the European market RE probably want us to buy more complex machines so dealers will benefit. Id be happy with 5 to 8 more hp. The engine is such a lump there's bound to be a little tuning in there somewhere. Its way over engineered in terms of beefy components.

@@TheArtdecovampire True, 10 more horsepower would be enough to allow safe overtaking especially uphill, and the solution would be there, namely: DNA air filter, muffler without catalytic converter, FuelX cetraline and Hitchcocks camshaft. Cost of these modifications, with labor, about 1000 euros, is it worth it? Or better to change bikes?

After all both the Triumph and Enfield are British companies with rich history, so I think it's natural to have some similarities in design, especially when it comes to modern retro roadsters.
