Hey dude. It's the least to expect being grown up about things. The origin of the conflict was more a British diplomatic mess up in my book. Those who have to experience war when politicians fail tend to have mutual respect for each other. Let's hope it doesn't come to this again, but we tend to forget how bad war is as time goes by.

My uncle was on Minerva during the Falklands. He said the Argentine airmen were astonishingly brave. He also noted that they didn’t attack the big white painted Canberra as they thought it was a hospital ship. This was a happy accident as the ship was crammed with troops but the hurry to get the Task Force to sea meant paint jobs were not a priority.

@@jugganaut33 - Thatcher gets much credit for the War, but after the diplomatic mess, she was quite despondent about the prospects of retaking the islands. A junior cabinet secretary found Admiral Sir Henry Leach at no 10 Downing Street and famously took him into the cabinet meeting where various ministers were dismissing the chances of retaking the islands. Sir Henry Leach interrupted and said. “In 4 days I can have a Task Force ready to retake the Falklands.” Thatcher asked if it could be done. Leach simply said “Yes.” That 4 day time scale was the reason Canberra wasn’t painted. Normally ships taken into service in wartime receive a full paint job.

It's a bit ironic that that quote from the BBC has made it as a tag line for the the Falklands war considering, the BBC felt perfectly happy announcing to that world the attack by 2 PARA on Goose Green hours before it happened - allowing the Argentines to prepare, and then they helpfully advised the Argentine Air Force that they had mis set the fused on their bombs, this was corrected in the very next attack at the cost of hundreds of British lives. The BBC were an Argentine asset during the conflict, I am actually surprised that Hanrahan didn't report the precise times, load out and numbers of Harriers to Buenos Aires.

In her memoirs, Thatcher blamed the MoD, as do other commentators. In his memoirs, John Nott - head of the MoD at the time blamed the Cabinet Office. FYI in the RL, ANY of the F35s which have target on their radar can share it w/ all other aircrafts. Also, cruise missiles and air to air missiles can be "guided" by any of these planes enabling the Navy to strike WAY over the horizon now. All these aircraft are interlinked and can work together. When they are Navy, their radars and the ships can work together. When the US Navy and Japanese Navy are working together, we can see targets from any Japanese destroyer as if it was the US. So - we can launch from way over the horizon and the Japanese destroyer can guide it to target.

@@grimreapers In 2025 the U.K. will have type 45 with 72 missiles each an increase from 48. That will be 48 aster 30 long range missiles and then 26 short range sea ceptor. Additionally, unsure of type 26 in service date but that will have 48 sea ceptor air defence missiles vs the 32 currently on type 23. additionally this video neglects the type 23 frigate which would be in any carrier strike group the Royal Navy would send. The U.K. also has 2 air craft carriers so could ironically pincer the Argentines and entirely surpress their air forces. QEC also has crowsnest which does provide longer range than type 45 alone, granted not as potent as awacs but still quite good. QEC can also Carry 70 aircraft at war time load, U.K. has 25 f35 and will order around 80 in total. The projection could be significantly more than 24 jets due to the sheer size of the ships The capabilities for anti ship and submarine are impressive but would also compliment massively the air defence capabilities coupled with type 45. If type 26 were to be included they would also include land attack missiles which in theory could strike argentine bases prior to aircraft taking off. The British do tend to learn well historically from wars. Additionally, the U.K. would send a couple astute class submarines which also have land attack capabilities to hit air bases to prevent air craft taking off. Again left out of this video The U.K. is substantially more powerful now air defence wise than in 82 but nonetheless the U.K. wouldn’t risk it’s fleet if it can eliminate military bases and fast jets Also to mention that U.K. has 4 typhoons based in the Falklands which by 25 would likely have their improved radars and would massively increase British air defence capabilities, similarly the U.K. has sky sabre which is basicallly sea ceptor on the islands which is a major upgrade from rapier. Granted your video already had the Argentines on the island but for some real life perspective they’d be very important respectively. Fun fact about the first war, the main thing that gave Britain an decisive edge was the uses of Chilean Radar stations to watch the Argentine Air Force take off and head out on missions, so the Harriers could be placed in the right place in the right numbers at the right time to intercept them. In fact the only time British ships got hit was the few days that the main Chilean Radar station went offline because of a malfunction that they needed to quickly bring parts to repair.

They trained in a few weeks. The fuses were armed as per manuals, for standard use on land drops. They chose older big bombs that were proper to sink ships and used mechanical fuses that were in amply stocks. But the attack profile didn't let them to arm in time. Hence the RN got saved continuously by this luck. Only thanks to the BBC reporting bombs were failing they realized the problem. So they started to make double fuse use with the nose one as back up with a fixed timed off after release, and use the more limited electronic fuses by the late stage of the conflict. There isnt enough boats to do this. The project to fit Sea Ceptor has been kicked back at least 5 years and all anti-ship missiles removed and given to the Ukrainians with no replacements in sight - madness. It's interesting to note that one of the reasons the Junta decided to attack in '82 was because the Royal Navy had retired their F-4s and the carriers that could transport them; the ski-jump carriers could only operate Harriers. In '25 with RN F-35s, there would be no way they could sink a British ship.

I think that thinking was flawed. From all the reading ive done of it, the world (apart from the US) saw the Harrier as little more than a circus trick. So yeh, from what you say it makes sense the Junta thought they could pull it off. Problem was, the US and UK test pilots knew how good the Harrier was and i dont think there was actually much concern on our side having the Harriers instead of the F-4's. Infact from what ive seen i think the Harriers were completely unmatched as they could operate in conditions that F-4's or any supersonic aircraft couldnt.

We are all talking of the air war but as has been proved again and again before and since 1982, you cannot dominate the ground from the air alone and arguably the UK had the only formed BG sized units (5 Airborne and 3 CDO BDE) that were capable of landing at one end of the island and fighting its way to the other, in demanding conditions over difficult terrain. The land war was won on the likes of Sennibridge and Ottorburn training areas.

Can’t wait to see if someone eventually models the type 26 and type 31 frigates for potentially future Royal Navy battles, especially seeing as it plans to expand w buying the odd expensive ship like the type 26 w a few type 31/32’s in tow. I could expect to someday see a QE carrier with a pair of type 45’s, coupled with up to 4 type 26 frigates and 3 type 31 and type 32’s together. that’s with leaving a minuscule amount for home defence and not a carrier in sight. Tho the home defence for clarity would include 2 type 45’s, alongside 2 type 31 and 32 frigates each left over, plus with the potential of further expansion having one expensive ship and a batch of up to 4 that cost the same, it could be a lil better

And yeah I mean those are the currently planned numbers, all together that makes 18 frigates for the fleet, with the potential for more. aside from that I’d like to believe they upgrade a couple of the type 45’s to last into the late 2030’s when the supposed type 83’s are meant to be around, that may even increase the numbers of destroyers even if it’s just by say 3. ofc some of that was guesswork and hopes but cmon, having single digits when it comes to a ship class outside of a carrier is a bit shocking really.

And yeah I get what you mean bout the duel island configuration, it’s a pretty decent idea for practical use rather than cramming it all into one like most carriers, tho it does make for one sight that’s for sure. also yeah the Chinese and Russian ramps do seem a bit better looking, but we all have our ways of doing it, prolly kept up w a similar design to what the illustrious and ark royal had before the QE and POW.

To OP. Operation Sealion never happened, was never going to work and was *proven* to have ended in failure in a 1974 wargame conducted by Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. The fact is that Nazi Germany simply didn't have the naval capacity to turn into a successful invasion. For starters they had no landing ships and planned on using hastily converted river barges from all over Europe to augment this. Crossing the canal in such badly suited vessels would have led to a fiasco with moderately rough seas. Admiral Raeder also said in 1940 that Germany could at most land 9 divisions in England but that 30 divisions were needed to guarantee a successful invasion. Even those 9 divisions were an optimistic measure given that everything went according to plan and the weather was good... The Falklands would have been defended by the RN and RAF whether or not Thatcher was prime minister. It made absolutely no difference. Operation Sealion would only happen in a scenario in which Hitler (a known admirer of the British Empire) would decide (out of the blue!) that the Soviet Union wasn't his main enemy he absolutely needed to destroy at any cost. But then he wouldn't have been Hitler. So this hypothetical scenario is nonsensical.

Butler-class Destroyer Escorts or Dealey-class Frigates, Destroyers Similar to the Gearing-class (Which they had in 1982) or, at best, Forest Sherman-class Destroyers, Light Anti-Aircraft Cruisers Similar to Either the American Atlanta-class (Atlanta or Oakland Subclasses) or the Italian Capitani Romano-class, Light Cruisers Similar to the American Cleveland-class or the Italian Condottieri-class, Luigi di Savoia Duca Degli Abruzzi Group, Heavy Cruisers Similar to the American Baltimore-class or Des Moines-class and Aircraft Carriers Similar to Either a Modernized British 1942 Type Light Fleet Carrier (Colossus or Majestic Groups) or a Modernized Essex-class Aircraft Carrier. • What if the Argentine Government had Also invested, to a Lesser Extent than the Navy, in production of Maintaining the A-4 Fightinghawk's as well as Locally Produced versions of Aircraft like the F9F-5 Cougar, The F-8E Crusader, Development of a Carrier-based Pucara, or even the A-4's themselves. Maybe even a Locally produced version of the F-14 Tomcat. • What if the Argentine Air Force had Similar Investments to the Navy and had Attack Aircraft similar to the A-7E Corsair 2's, Fighters Similar to the F-4E Phantom 2's, Transport Jet Aircraft Similar to the C-17 Globemaster 3's, Attack Helicopters Similar to the American AH-64 Apache or The European Eurocopter Tiger, and Transport Helicopters Similar to the Westland AW159 Superlynx/Futurelynx. Observations I would make would be: - the QE carrier would be equipped with more than 24 F-35s in a war (surge) situation, and the F-35s are purpose-built to network their data/intelligence (and the QE carrier is the only carrier so far designed from the outset to fully utilise the F35 networking capabilities); - there would be at least 2x T23 frigates with her in 2025, equipped with Sea Ceptor (shorter range than T45 Sea Viper, but with an uprated C2!) - UK would definitely have AEW in addition to the Crowsnest system, as tankers, P8A & Rivet Joint could all be utilised; - Satellite coverage would also be utilised & is way more sophisticated than in 1982; - Meteor missile is way more capable than shown here, and using a modified AMRAAM doesn't do it justice. It's the only missile the Russian air force are reputedky absolutely terrified of... Nevertheless a great simulation, though as other contributors here have pointed out, probably a more likely scenario would be to simulate the existing garrison with Typhoons & Astute subs successfully defending against an attempted 2nd invasion.

People don't understand just how much vital stuff the UK provides in the combat aircraft industry. The UK basically blocked any deals from going through (US selling the Skyhawks was a fluke and the excuse was they weren't fighter, also they didn't get many spare parts or support soooo). The only country not relying on technology and parts from the UK i believe was of Russia and China. Argentina did not have good relations with China, especially after they sank an illegal Chinese fishing boat in Argentine waters, no one was killed though.(only country to date with enough balls to sink illegal Chinese fishing boats). It also severely affected their defense industry(which was actually good). This side of the Falklands war is over looked and is what had the most profound affect on Argentina. My mate was in the Army and was stationed in the Falkland's for a while. According to him the Argentinian Navy is scared to death of our subs which we always have one in the area (allegedly) due to what happened to the Belgrano. They couldn't find the sub back then and know they have even less chance of finding it now. Also there were 3 subs in the task force but we only know of one due to the Belgrano. EDIT: There were 6 subs, one ran aground, one got hit by sheer luck by bombs jettisoned by Argentinian planes after an aborted bombing run.

Awesome targeting guys. Kinda like shooting ducks at a fair (130 Miles away). Suggest the following. Due to a Logistics System Breakdown the Chinese sent Argentina the following:- 1 Xian Y - 20, 2 Shaanxi Y - 8/9, 4/6 Xi'an JH 7, 6 Xhengdu J - 20, 8 Sukhoi Su - 35 and 4 Type 22 missile boats. Even up the odds I say chaps. Tally - ho.

Is it just me or is the AIM-120D smaller than the AIM-120C? If Argentina really wants to take another shot at the Falklands, they going to need to buy some AWACs and tanker planes. Not that it will guarantee victory but it will at least make them a little more competitive. As for the fight itself, you guys clubbed the opposition like baby seals. Next up should be Greece Vs. Turkey. Rafales vs. Vipers.

The Argentine Navy at this point has practically no working SAM's or Anti Ship Missiles (Aspides and Exocets are all antiques and past their use by dates) however the RN doesn't have any Anti Ship missiles either (Sea Skua /Sea Venom are very very lightweight) and in a CQC gun fight the Argentines do have a big edge in gunnery with a faster firing Oto Melara (Now Leonardo) 5 inch gun and 4x2 Bofors L70 CIWS guns. Within 3km using the islands as cover (Submarines cannot operate close to the Falklands as it isn't deep enough, the Almirante Brown Class would rinse a Type 45 and could defend itself from Air Attack albeit at short range The Falklands War Radars were the Antique Type 965 (Most common and least capable) the Type 967/968 on the 2x Type 22 Frigs and HMS Andromeda (Leander Class), the Carrier invincible and HMS Exeter with the new Type 1022 Radar

Well maybe not. We still use harpoon ASMs. And there are other ASMs too. Not to mention Frigates and F35 could mount ASMs. Add at least 1 astute class submarine in: and the Argentine surface Fleet wouldn't stand a chance. Even IF the type 45 would lose against the cruiser. The cruisers sensors wouldn't even have the range to find it 😂

The UK fleet would have at least 4 Type 23 frigates armed with Sea Ceptor. Plus AEW helicopters. In reality the Meteor is better then the AMAAM and the F35s would also have medium range ASRAAM. SM2 is not as good as ASTER 30. Plus The T45 is in line for an upgrade to give it 48 ASTER 30 block 1 and 24 sea Ceptor. In short your sim is showing a weaker British side then there would be. Tactically the T45s would not de put in San Carlos Water - they would be put out to sea. The Type 23 frigates would be more than capable of looking aft the landing...

I'm glad that you skipped 'how' they invaded the islands, given that they have no functional navy, no landing craft, no amphibious/support/landing ships and the UK defences are easily adequate to defend the islands against whatever terrible hodgepodge of civilian ships they would have to press into service to do this invasion. Also ignoring the flight of Eurofighters that would have opposed the initial invasion, with fuel, AWACS and support required to defend them against Argentine forces at max range and with no support. its....... yeah its good that you skipped that phase.

24:00 Yes sir, AIM-120D and Meteor (and most modern missiles) are believed to have data link to include in-flight targeting information, the capability to change targets, and general communications capability between missiles/others networked platforms on the data link. The upcoming AIM-260 (set to be deployed as early as Q4 2022 with speculated specs of around 200 km and speed of mach 5), AIM-120, and Meteor are all supposed to have AESA active-homing radar and passive radar onboard, with the active-homing also assisting in electronic warfare defensive capability.

It appears that people have forgotten why the Falklands War was fought. There was a right wing military junta in charge of Argentina at the time, which indulged in torturing and murdering any opposition. (There are still protesting women who are seeking the bodies of their relatives.) Had the British government ignored the invasion, there were plans to ship all the islanders to prison in Argentina or dump them in the Atlantic from a helicopter.
