I would love to see a sim run with Cargos deploying the US Rapid Dragons in a wargame simulation. As some sort of preemptive/nuclear retaliation conventional assault on either China or Russia.
@@IetsgoBrandon Depends which Kirov, what version. The nakmimov coming out of refit would probably anihalate the 055, it’s meant to have 80 antis ship vls for zircon, kalibr, oniks, and the 96 cell revolver vls will remain plus polymet redut so basically all Russian aa missiles can be used between the two systems, including the quad pack missiles that go in the redut system
In reality, the entire crew, upon seeing the order to engage the US Navy, will file for dismissal and leave, which were written and signed a couple of weeks before the order. The entire fleet will remain anchored at base.
@すし Out of curiosity, not disagreeing; what is super off with this? Aside from the odd AI behavior. I’m genuinely asking because I don’t know. I just recently found DCS and have started down the addictive road of learning about Aviation/Naval/Missile technology.
Cap moderately frustrated = incredible quotes. 31:50 “Crazy maverick British pilot going nuts. Likes to play with swords. Going into a dog fight. With a gun. He doesn’t have. And he’s dead. Rightfully so… he’s a knob!” Fell free to post your favorite GR quote…
Sock being so eager and happy about shooting down a lightning is hilarious especially since all the enemies missiles except for the ballistic ones are sea skimming
FireDad would have been taken out if Cap didn't warn him, thinking that he was toast. But by warning FireDad at the last minute, Fire was able to jink and evade. This then allowed him to take out some LRASMs. Cap has gotten better at not divulging too much, but it's so frustrating when he does. Sometimes you can hear the frustration in Simba's voice, too, when he is deprived of a kill due to the warning Cap gives.
@@ChristopherMallonMusic Yea. He has gotten better about it, but I bet if he thought of things to say when he sees an exciting human-involved interaction, it would be better and he would have less of an impact on the match. Maybe just use the same vague phrase for both AI and human. Like, "Oooo look at this valued viewers!"
@@MRAWESOME22 I'd set it up so while the microphone is always on for recording, it was push-to-talk to talk to his people, so they don't hear every single thing he says. But it's still entertaining, either way! :)
great work. In reality the US and British would operate in a combined carrier group thus adding their combined defense/offense and off setting any weaknesses of the British group. That would be a good simulation to run.
Agreed. Assumjng this was in the Pacific there would also likely be RAN Hobart aegis equipped frigates plus ships from ROK & JMSDF. SAM frenzy. Not that the RN would ever have all 6 T45 at see at the same time let alone the same group 😬
@@gregs7562 Yeah, but it was a simulation there wouldn't be much chance of the Russian carrier group being with the Chinese group. Quite a lot of the simulation is never going to actually happen in real life it's made for entertainment purposes. The British carrier group when it did venture into the Pacific had the Type 45 Destroyers, the new Type 26 and Type 23 frigates as well as an Aegis destroyer from the US and I believe a Norwegian frigate. That's how NATO will operate in future.
@@chrisparnhamif you’re talking about CSG21 with regards to makeup of the British group, the T26 isn’t in service till 2028 (iirc) so definitely wasn’t a part of it.
i would think with how the ai used there defencive misslies if they where 1 big group it would have wasted way more missiles for stuff that was going to get shot down
I laughed harder than I probably should have at, "He's going into a dogfight with a gun he doesn't have. Ladies and gentlemen I give you the British!" 😂
@@grimreapers Cant wait to see how the Multi threading update that just came out will effect your guys' battles! I saw someone else's video recently where they dropped some CBU's and it didn't turn into a 10fps slide show so fingers crossed it will be great for you guys!
The modeling on Chinese ships regarding LRASMs is off. If a plane with its tiny radar can see it, then these ships with massive radars would get a radar lock at some point too. The fact that there's no missiles and not even CWIS shooting at them looks like a pretty important bug in these scenarios.
@@cassius_eu5970 true but keep in mind planes have time to lock the missiles, by the time ships see the missiles, get a lock and can properly react the missiles is already too close, probably is a bug tho as some would be intercepted
Modelling? What modelling? 100% success rate bringing down ASMs? No missile failures? No human error? I don't detect any modelling going on - just scripts and triggers.
@@LondonSteveLee That's quite the accusation, and not backed up by the video. There were plenty of missiles losing track, missing, or blowing too short. The only reason the blues caught each missile is they flooded the sky with overkill. And I don't know what human errors you're looking for, but the Gerald Ford gets its flight deck completely gummed up, and Sock even shoots down a friendly. Did you watch the whole thing before trashing their hard work?
Cap and the whole GR team, thx for continuously creating such good and enjoyable content. I have found the channel i think like 1 year ago and watched so many of your videos, even going back into some of a few years ago and i love them. You guys are amazingly skilled, have great teamwork and the energy you have with each other is just so much fun. I can't name all of you guys that i have seen fly in your videos, so if any of you see this, i just wanted to thank you all and let's go Grim Reapers!
You have some fun catching up to do! Personally I suggest going back no further then 6mos to 1yr in their back catalogue, before this time they didn't have the tools in game or talent out of game to script battles nearly as well, nor the weapons systems working properly. Mind you some of the 1yr old WW2 naval battle sims are just fantastic to watch as well at the 1-1.5yr mark. Either way, enjoy!
I've been on this channel for about two days now, and I've watched six or seven vids. I really don't know how much behind the curtain work you guys put into scenario modeling because I don't know anything about the program you're using. Having said that, the people involved are all top tier and the videos themselves are amazing. If you put half the work into the behind the scenes stuff that y'all are putting into gaming the scenarioes themselves you're the hardest working crew on RU-vid.
The best part for me was at 25:37 when cap said " What's really important is the ship combat " . My most favorite thing to watch in DCS is the ship combat. It is only bettered by Cap's Boyish excitement he adds to the videos. Thanks Cap.
I mentioned in the previous video and I am gonna do it again that LRASMs seem invincible and cannot be intercepted even at close ranges by HHQ-10. Weird thing is the same LRASMs were visible on J-15s radar 20-30 miles away but more powerful radars on Destroyers couldn't pick them up.
yeah even a Russian frigate could track and hit them, even though they're not designed primarily for air defense. I suspect its got something to do with reaction times on chinese ships having been carried over from the Type 052C and not upgraded to modern standards, or its a combination of HQ9Bs having a minimum range thats too long to engage, and HHQ10s not facing the right direction to defend. More testing should be done to find the root cause.
They're sea skimming missiles. They fly below radar. Plus they shot down the awacs. It's a stealth missile that flies below radar. Can't see it until it's too late.
@@hughmungus2760 Yeah I agree. Plus Chinese destroyers not only carry the long range HHQ-9s but also the short to medium range HHQ-16s. But I haven't seen them use HHQ-16s in this simulation.
@@CaptainSpacedOut You are right they are sea skimming and stealthy but there are limitations. At very close ranges of 10 to 20 NMs these missiles should be intercepted. When CIWS can engage them why can't HHQ-10s? Also the effectiveness of Chinese CIWS in this mod has been poor.
to be honest, that thing would be quite useless in modern combat lol apart from some sort of "anti terrorist" mission like they did in sryia russia just doesnt have the funding...
@@aa1944-k2r See, I started wondering about drone and AI modernization. Drop all the manned aircraft capability completely, shift to drone/AI... Hmmmmm 🤔
This is fantastic, seeing them in a constrained geographic area with land based air and missiles in a scenario would be cool too, now that you have the pitched open ocean battle mastered
Reapers make the best Videos!! So glad I’ve been tuning in the last few years to see these videos become amazingly detailed and more realistic as the years go by.
It’s gonna be incredible to think that the uk’s fleet will be taking some major steps up in the near future, here’s hoping the type 83 has a load more weapons of all kinds and can take on hyper sonics and assist other ships to doing to. personally I hope we get more destroyers than the type 45’s, maybe just an extra 2-3 making 9 at most, and who knows maybe increasing the other ship type numbers from the currently promised numbers of 8 type 26 frigates, 5 type 31 and 5 type 32’s. And hopefully by then the us will actually deliver a significant number of f35’s for the uk, rate of delivery is appalling imo atm.
@@flashgordon6670 but then what will operate on our carriers? and besides, since when does an aircraft 1 gen ahead of another make it obsolete? nations around the world still use gen 4 planes like f15-18’s, eurofighters and many others, prolly till the 6th gen aircraft get half way through their relevant lifetime.
If the Treasury bean-counters get their way, you can forget anymore Destroyers. If you might recall, we were supposed to get 12 Type 45 destroyers in the original plan. Typical it was cut down to 8, then a final cut to 6! Disgraceful!!
@@splatoonistproductions5345 "since when does an aircraft 1 gen ahead of another make it obsolete?" not obsolete, but a massive disadvantage, a hundred miles of a head start for 5th gen stealth aircraft is a death sentence for 4th gen.
@@danhodson7187 Nah we'd never get them. Ideally we need more of everything - subs, frigates and destroyers. But we'll never get it. Lefties are already up in arms over the £5 billion increase announced for defence. TBH, £5 billion means nothing if it isn't going to expand our capability in some very noticeable way. And that's what irritates me - it'll likely just get pissed up the wall! But yeah, lets spend £150 billion on a poxy fucking high speed rail we don't actually fucking need!!! Priorities all wrong, heaven forbid this country has a credible defence procurement and strategy!!
I really wish submarines could be used in these scenarios. Good chance both Ivan and the chicomms would lose their carriers before their whole airwings could launch.
ASW helos would probably take out the subs long before they can get in range for torpedoes. And sub launched cruise missiles are pretty easy to shoot down.
@@hughmungus2760 but the chicomms and Ivan prob have very poor asw capabilities especially in a blue water scenario. Also you don't need missles a torpedo set to go off under the keel has a very good chance of breaking the ships back. A sub is the sniper of the navy. Only need one shot to get the kill.
@@harrisone79 a torpedo has at best 30nm of range against a ship that isnt moving. If it has to chase a target, that range drops off to 10-15nm. A typical fleet in combat formation would be spread out so that a sub could never get more than 1-2 of them in a single torpedo volley. The moment your sub fires off a torpedo which is impossible to conceal. everyone in that fleet knows you're there and would pound you with ASW missiles and helicopters. Even assuming you manage to sink a ship in that fleet you lose your sub which costs Vastly more than any ship except the carrier. Its generally acknowledged that torpedoes are the last resort for any sub and a suicide option against superior numbers. Its like being a sniper that takes out one guy and gets artillery dropped on him 30 seconds later.
They finally repurposed those useless things? Wasn't its sole design still meant to be a coastal ship though, which is wear it's fancy reduced RCS design came from? That would kind of make it useless in a fleet defense position
@@TheRealSteve42 They cancelled the AGS and now are focusing it as a stealthy missile truck. I feel like its now more of an offensive option with only having three of them, so the US Navy can experiment with with that ideology.
This is amazing and been waiting for ages. Thank you so much for the effort, but I still do not understand why the UK is only deploying 24 F-35 when in any scenario like this it'll be closer to 40 and why the US Navy has so few F-35 when the intent is to have the majority of aircraft on the US Carriers as F-35s by mid-20s.
@@cj64343 standard load when not expecting an operation, correct. But in any situation like this where it is high-threat, they will field at least 36 F-35 but more likely over 40 or even as high as 50. US numbers you posted are how many are intended to be bought, not how many will be on a ship. In any high-threat scenario like this, the suggestion is at least a 50/50 split but it can be as high as 75/25 to the F-35 depending on the mission.
US is planning 50/50 F-35/F-18 with the F-18 then being replaced by Naval NGAD. US airforce have also said they plan to have around 1000 Loyal Wingman drones in a 2:1 ratio with 200 Airforce NGAD and 300 F-35.
It would have been fun to see the 80 LRASMs fired plus the blue's ship based ASHMs instead of just the 24 LRASMs that were fired and the British being 'un-maverick' but then again that'd probably be overkill. Still one of my fave videos so far keep up the good work!
This was an Epic battle. It was exciting and fun to watch. Thanks for all the time you all spent to make this game above and beyond the original design.
I love this video because it accurately depicts what modern naval/air warfare would look like. Firing missiles beyond the horizon far before they are even seen with the human eye like it was in World War II.
i still find the effectiveness of LRASM a bit overblown. ship radars are extremely big and powerful , so it should be able to detect lrasm pretty easily once it crosses the radar horizon. ECM in lrasm probably is the least of the concerns considering the ship's powerful radar would easily get a burn through.
Indeed, Type 45 can easily track F-35 at the maximum range dictated by the curvature of the earth. Smaller RCS means just that against big RADARs - doesn't mean you can't see them! It must be said though that the Chinese still run secondary VHF RADARs on the Type 055s and Type 052s to detect stealth aircraft so their X-band AESA RADARs are probably a generation or two behind the western ones.
This is by far the most impressive simulation of a carrier strike group fight yet. So much happening. It'd be interesting if you had the OPFOR controlled by players as well rather than AI to see if the outcome could be changed.
There were humans on the Red team. I think it was four on each side. If they could get enough people to man every aircraft on both sides... now that would be something.
I love these types of videos for some reason. I love all GR’s stuff but these simulated naval battles and the many different scenarios they’ve tested are SOO fkn interesting to me for some reason idk why I live them so damn much but I do!!
Best naval battle I've ever seen simulated in DCS EVAR, and ending in a crushing blue victory! And it seemed to apply directly to the naval battle doctrines of both sides: Russian and Chinese heavy and high speed offence and not quite as strong defense, American (and presumably British) heavy defense and slow but stealthy offense. And in the end, stealth wins. If the battle went to the very end and down to the naval guns and short-range missiles, it would have been a 100% complete blue victory with few if any survivors on the red side, though the Russians might be killing a few Burkes before they went down. Fantastic job, thank you for your hard work and sharing the awesomeness with us, GR!
Lately my go to in order to fall asleep, not that the content is boring, more that cap’s voice is soothing or something? I can’t quite put my finger on it. Just the same thanks G.R. Entertaining, informative and somehow lulling. PS this is the one I’ve been waiting for! I hope I can make it through it.
That was an intense and awesome simulation! I do something extremely similar at home but I use 3D printed ships, planes and helicopters with their own individual stat cards and play that way.
I know you don't have it in yet butt for UK CSG I think it would have been interesting to see if you had put in the type 45 with the water refresh plus the sea ceptor refit so it would have 24x camm and 48 X aster 30 nt/bmd & type 26 I know that subs aren't in consideration but with 48 sea ceptor plus a 24 cell for FC/ASw and block V tomahawk wich has anti ship capability
YJ-21 Nerf and LRASM buff In real lfe, YJ-21 has a terminal speed of Mach 10 and follow a Sanger ballistics rather than regular trajectory, so the interception rate would be MUCH lower. You also made so that ship don't react to LRASM so that they don't get shot down. The battle would have ended around 17:00. But whatever make you guys feel good about yourself, the fact that the US need to cheats to win against China in a simulation is telling on how a real fight would turn out irl.
@@edwinsiyabonga7701 It's cruising speed is Mach 6 and terminal is Mach 10. The simulation gave them a lower speed so that the blue can win lol. They can't be shot down reliably irl
@@The136th You really think the chinese media is honest when they say "Mach 10"? come the fuck on bro, they lie continuously none of their numbers can be trusted.
@Watcher Zero no AWACS means they are invisible over the horizon but I'm visual range they should be seen by the powerful AESA radars and electro optical systems and engaged by point defense missiles , they have their RAM equivalents on the ships
I’ve got one addition for your naval sims, one rouge Japanese 16 SS class submarine! Of course to run a sim large enough to incorporate submarine warfare to include all of the other ships, plus continued engagement would need to be massive, and wouldn’t even want to fathom that! Y’all do great sims, and really love your push for accuracy and unbiased approach. Just know that the hard work that y’all do beforehand doesn’t go unnoticed nor unappreciated! Thank you!
For as capable as the F35 is in real life, it is always slightly disappointing in sim. Regardless, this was an amazing battle and us Valued Viewers appreciate all your hard work
Wow, this was amazing. Thanks for all your hard work and time you put into it. I have to admit, I was pretty nervous there for a while. But now I feel a little stressed out about our superiority at sea. But I trust that the powers that be know what they’re doing out there.
Aster 30 is a lot newer than sm-2, uk is using an older block so not clearly not competitive with sm-6 but the latest asters about to go into service is an interesting question. And type 45 is a dedicated fleet defence platform, PAAMS-Sampson-S1850 is an exceptional radar suite which will only be equaled when spy-1 is replaced by spy-6, that’s why Type 45 has performed so well in excercises with the us navy
When you said '617 sqn getting shot down' i felt a moment of loss. My workshop is on the end of their runway and I rather like seeing the boys and girls up and about.
Damn that was a big one! I feel like the best chance for the red team would be to fire all their Anti ship missiles at once in the begining to try and take out 1 carrier. Then they would have a big advantage, but they were firing them in waves instead. Also was the YJ21 nerfed ? It's terminal speed was like half than it was in the other videos. Also the British ships weren't even able to fire at them and now they were activly intercepting them.
@@grimreapers I mean PLA's strategic support force official account on their weibo app stated that it has a mach 10 terminal speed . It has been covered by big media outlets like Eurasian times, South China morning post etc Obviously it is debatable whether that claim is true or not, but since in these simulations you go by public available figures the specs should match the officially stated ones.
The Chinese said they want to go for a Figther thats faster than the F-35 at mach 1.8 and more Stealthy than the J-20 so RCS under 0.05m2 but higher than the F-35 0.005m2 It could carry up to 4 PL-15 internal and 6 PL-10 and /or PL-12 externaly It would be propelled by 2 WS-19 engines with around 100 KN thrust with afterburners each I think that would make it and overall equivalent to the F-35 wich would make this battles much more balanced
