204 Ruger vs 6.5 creedmoor 500 yards

I thought it would be close at this distance but results were pretty decisive. Perhaps it is more a challenge of calibres than rifle manufactures. Sako is a 204 Ruger shooting factory Hornady V max 40 grain. Browning is a 6.5 creedmoor shooting factory Hornady ELD-X 143 grain. These are my two favorite rifles and both amazing calibres for their respective disciplines. Don't get me wrong I still love my Sako, but the Browning is something else!

I don’t usually comment on videos , however this video was extremely well done. I love watching the vapor trail and then the camera by the gong and how you hear the shot just after the bullet hits the target. Great video !

Have both rifles and calibers! I would suggest both rifles systems are spot on! 204 out to 500 will dance with wind. 6.5 does not.. Super shooting!

Unlike many here I love the comparison. I think it shows how awesome and underrated the .204 is. Great shooting! But that browning...daaaang! Would love to put it against a Sako 6.5 or even a Tikka 6.5. That said I thing most ppl are gonna have a hard time shooting better than that group with any caliber ammo or rifle...hand loads and custom rifles included. AMAZING!

Well not really fair comparison. The .204 is really a 400 yard gun. The 6.5 is going to be better past that. But its also going to eat more power, much louder, kick harder so you don't get to see the hit in the scope (24x) etc. I'd much rather shoot the 204 at the range than the 6.5. Same with shooting small game. Just smoother shooting vs bigger iron.

The weight of a 204 at 40 grains will carry in the wind much more than the 143-grain bullet. On a still day and say about 250 yards, I believe the Sako will outperform the Browning or at least right up with it. Good grouping at 500 yards.

That is VERY impressive shooting with the X-Bolt! I put part of the great group down to the inherent accuracy of the 6.5 CM cartridge, part to the quality of the X-Bolt and most to your shooting ability. I have both a Ruger Precision Rifle and a Ruger American Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor. BOTH will shoot 1/2" at 100 yards with Hornady 140 gr. ELD-M ammo. Like your X-Bolt, Ruger uses hammer forged barrels. I'd take your Browning X-Bolt over my Ruger American Predator for the X-Bolt's better features. But the X-Bolt is twice the price of my R.A.P. Both are highly accurate. Ain't it amazing what good CNC machining can do? I have the X-Bolt's "older brother", a .300 Win mag Browning A-Bolt that is also very accurate, even with a hot barrel.

I shoot both calibers depending on the weather conditions and ranges I love the 204 but its a whole lot tougher to shoot in the wind than the 6.5 Creedmor but the 6.5 does a lot more damage to the fur! Good shooting and the results are not surprising at 500 meters the 204 is getting short on velocity.

UPDATE: I just bought a 6.5 Creedmoor Browning X-Bolt Pro (carbon fiber stock and fluted bolt and barrel - 6 lbs. 1 oz.) At Sportsman's Warehouse I compared theX-Bolt Pro to the SAKO 85 Carbonlight and felt the Pro was equal in quality but offered more features AND was about $1,000.less! Browning has about the best consistent factory rifle accuracy these days. Miroku knows how to produce quality rifles and Browning knows how to design quality rifles. I'm waiting on a MARCH 3 - 24 x 42 scope. (FFP, mil/mil, illuminated & numbered reticle, and side focus/parallax knob) This short, light scope, as is common these days, cost more than the rifle but compliments the "mountain rifle" style of the X-Bolt Pro as they are both top tier instruments.

cool video, thanks for posting, a fun comparison of calibers' performance at distance but a very silly comparison to say you're comparing the rifles and using WILDLY different calibers....not hating but the browning is not the winner, the 6.5 is... The 6.5 was built to do that and you are talking about a bullet that is 5 or 6 TIMES heavier than a .204! And everyone knows a .204 with it's teeny bullet can't perform in any kind of wind past 400 yards...it actually did less terrible than i would have thought--you must have a steady hand! Get that Sako in 6.5 and re-do, i'd love to see. Actually think they only make it in .260 though?
