Remake and modernized version of the classic 20th Century Fox logo in 4K, followed by its different variants.
You requested it numerous times and indeed it's a logo that has always fascinated me, especially since it's probably one of the most iconic in the history of cinema. The 20th Century Fox opening logo (now renamed 20th Century Studios after its acquisition by The Walt Disney Company) got a huge impact on spectators around the world thanks to the brilliant combination of its remarkable visual appearance and its majestic fanfare. This desire to adapt this everlasting logo, which has rocked audience generations, dates back many years. In the past, I made several unappealing attempts (even since I was very young). Having acquired the necessary experience and tools over time, this is how I embarked on this new project at the start of the year. I decided to run into that new Remake Logo project featuring a full rework of the classic 1953 CinemaScope tilted "O" version. This is probably my favorite version which opened so many wonderful movies that I love so much, such as "Fantastic Voyage", "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", "The Cannonball Run", "Planet of the Apes", "Alien", "The Fly", "Star Wars"...and so much more. Considering my personal affection for it and the visual being absolutly timeless, the task was not easy to modernize, the challenge was here.
I started my work based on the 1954 "River Of No Return" (the first film to show the famous 20th Century Fox Fanfare as we know it) to match the mood and original logo animation timing.
For the general look I wanted to make it looking like the gorgeous 1994 CGI version with the camera being static just like in the 1953 one.
About the effects specially created for this graphic overhaul:
Just as all the other logos that I previously remade/modernized, this one is also fully remade and rendered from scratch. I completely redrew the monolithic golden sculpture of the logo based on 4K captures of "Live Free or Die Hard" (2007) which features a very clean version of the logo. I combined it with another "20" layer with the tilted "O" that I also had to draw in the same style to blend them perfectly (reproducing the same color and textures).
I also had to animate and create other elements such as the iconic five searchlights and all the background sky-box. These elements were created on Procreate and animated on Vegas Pro. To match the original logo, three of the five lights needed to be animated very carefuly to look authantic as possible. The clouds are coming from the same 4K source I used to draw the logo. I needed to highly redraw some parts and also erase/redraw all the night-sky stars on a different animation layer. This way only the clouds are moving and the stars stay static.
I know, the logo does not fundamentally change that much, I agree. Again, I really tried to stay close as possible to the original, my goal is not to distort it but simply to give it a sort of second youth.
Each layer, blue background, textures, logo font, animation elements were created on Procreate. Then, each one of these layers was combined and animated on Vegas Pro. As a reminder, and unlike what other creators have chosen to do on their channels, this animation is 2D flat. I didn't use any 3D elements other than the previously mentioned film images because I wanted a static view.
If the visual does not really change, I have nevertheless allowed myself some freedom. You will probably have noticed that I reworked a little bit the original gorgeous 1954 Alfred Newman's fanfare for my remake version, more stereo and less flat. I also presented some alternative "1994 Logo" and "Studios Logo" versions that I made. They were, at first experimental, ultimately, I decided to keep them.
