My brother used to live in Taunton back in 1989/90. I was visiting him and we were out for a drink one night and we went into what was then The County Hotel for a piss. As we approached the toilets Merv Hughes came out. I said "Alright Merv'" to him and he replied "Yeah guys, you coming for a beer?" So after having a piss we went into the hotel bar and the whole Aussie test team and support staff were in there boozing it up as they were playing Somerset that week. What a cracking night on the beer we had with those guys, they really were top blokes.
The most satisfying ones are when a competent also-ran gets the better of a truly world-class player. So, for me, it's Eddo and Ormond that take the prize.
There's one small problem with the Steve Waugh to Gibbs sledge. It never happened and I've heard Steve Waugh confirm this at least 5 times over the years. Cool story but simply not true.
For me Tuffers' was the best one. He's a funny prick, and absolute comedy gold when he was commentating for Australian Radio on Triple M at the last Ashes Series. A joy to listen to.
I doubt Warney would've lost too much sleep over the #2 sledge. In 13 Test innings against Australia, Cullinan made 8 single-figure scores, never made it past 50, and averaged 12.75. I don't think ANY sledge can compensate for figures like those!!

You missed a good one. Fred Truman was bowling really quick and straight, first ball the batsman shuffled across the crease and looked stone cold LBW. The umpire remained unmoving, and Fred queried the non decision, next ball same again, absolutely plum. Umpire again remained uninterested in the appeal, and Fred ripped into the umpire again, third ball Fred splayed the batters stumps, on his way back past the umpire he said "nearly got him that time!!" 😂 This obviously occured in the sixties, but i can't remember the batsman or umpires names, but I think someone can fill in the blanks.
No 18 is factually incorrect. It was Aus (not SA) that needed to win to stay in the WC. They did of course and these two went on to play THAT semifinal
That was picked up on stump-mic if i remember correctly... ... soon after, Ranatunga called for a runner, to which Healy was heard again on stump-mic as saying... "You don't get a runner for being a fat c@*t. God bless cricket technology.
I can never find a video of anyone sledging one of the great West Indies fast bowlers of yesteryear. Sledging batsmen yes, but bowlers, no. I wonder why ?

Unfortunately the Australians are good at dishing it out, but they complain when it is given back to them. But to be fair, they are Australian sportsmen, and sledging from opponents is a good excuse for when they lose.
Some of these sledges were made well before this. Eg bowling a piano etc was a comment from a guy nicknamed Yabba? at the Sydney Cricket Ground in the 1930s!!!
Good call and Yabba has te distinct honour of having a bronze statue of sitting outside the boundary at the old SCG Hill. Wouldn't happen anywhere else in the world.
jesus I watched the video and loved it... went to read the comments... stop calling every fucking thing the Australians do fucked up... sledging is part of the game, cricket would be a lot more dull without sledging and the Aussies. both are a huge part of the game...
I don't mind a bit of give and take verbal touting . A quick and clever response is a bit of witty fun . But as long as it isn't too personal , there are boundaries ( and I don't mean the outfield rope...) That should not be crossed . Apart from that , game on!
The Warne - Cullinan I always heard as 'Looks like you spent it eating pies'. One of my faves is Thommo-Cowdrey, 1977. An anti-sledge. Cowdrey was brought out because between Lillee & Thommo they had destroyed the England batting and Cowdrey began at the n-s end having to witness the fury of Thommo's short-pitched hell before taking strike. As he walked back past Cowdrey to fling down anothery, he said to Cowdrey, "You're fuckin' next mate' and was greeted with the reply, 'How do you do...the name's Cowdrey.'

Yes..well we weren't caught using a bottle cap..or sand to scuff up the ball like English players (and captain). We didn't use cough lollies to help alter the condition of the ball to make it swing. We didn't create Fast Leg Theory (Bodyline) to beat the best batsman the world has seen, which was later banned because the cricket Lords consider unsportsmanlike. But we can say a few words on the field in the heat of a test match and that's unsportsmanlike. Grow up. It's part of the game and most countries do it
@@jamesbentall3984 a former south African captain at the time said if it was one of his players nothing would have been done about it , it was only because of the social media and proper media that decided to go to town on the Aussies for it, that wasn't the first time it happened wont be the last, hell Muralitharan was a confirmed chucker until the Indians pushed their cricket weight and had the rules changed for him, so as GHOSTWHOWALKSSS said every team does it one way or another and yes ur right the aussies are just as guilty,, i dont believe it should be excepted as part of the game though or ever should be its cheating no matter what
