Hi, I’m Frank from the Walking for Health and Fitness Website - here are my 21 benefits of walking for health and fitness.
I began walking as a way to overcome a back injury and while walking to get back into shape so I could run again, I fell in love with walking. I enjoy the sensation of my arms and legs moving in a cross-patterned movement. When I’m in the groove, I slip into a meditative state that is calming and puts me in a great frame of mind

I too lost my father too young- he passed away at age 60. He died of complications from type 2 diabetes. Had he incorporated daily walking into his life and made better diet choices, I’m convinced he would have been around at least 20 more years. I am 55 and don’t want to leave my wife a widow or my son fatherless at such a young age. I try to walk/hike every day. There is no doubt it makes you look and feel better.

I used to HATE walking. Then i was diagnosed with breast cancer this past February. I joined the Y and walked the treadmill. Now the weather is nice so i dumped the Y and walk in the park. An hour before work then 3 miles after. On the weekends we bike in the am and walk in the pm. I have never felt this good in many years. I'm 58 and feel 40. I'm thinner than ive been in 30 years. Its amazing

I started walking about 2 weeks ago, and hour every day because my hips and legs feel super weak, I developed insomina, and insulin belly even though i am not overweight. I am however skinny fat! My endo told me, just walk as if your life depends on it. Just walk like possessed 😀😀😀😀 I started and am already better! Damn!

Me and my wife started walking when we got married and moved from abroad to the Netherlands. We combine it with our regular visits at the sport school. Since the second lock down in December, we strive to walk every day between 30 and 60 minutes in a high pace. We must confirm all the mentioned benefits in this video, combining with a very healthy life style when it comes to food etc. So, wish you a happy walking from the Netherlands 🇳🇱.

Hello LoveEveryone... Yes, after by back injury and the death of my mom... life was difficult for a while. Walking and exercise in general triggers the release of neurotransmitters. Endorphins are natural pain and stress fighters. Dopamine motivates you to take action. It is responsible for the surge that reinforces the feeling of pleasure and reward you get when you take action towards the accomplishment of a goal. Serotonin is released when you feel significant or important. Most anti-depressants focus on the production of serotonin. Oxytocin release creates intimacy, trust, and strengthens relationships. Good luck on your journey...Walk on, Frank

@Walking for Health and Fitness Thanks for your kind words. Yes, I walked quite a lot before I became ill. It's taken a while to get going again, and some of the medication, especially betablockers, prevents me from going faster. Can you advise me about stride length? My natural stride is long, but then I see other women walking with a much shorter stride! Perhaps I should just do what is comfortable! Anyway, I'm enjoying my daily walks once again. I doubt I'll ever get up any more mountains, but the scenery where I live is very beautiful. Thanks.

I have been power walking daily for about 2 months...walking kind of like Forrest Gump ran...compulsively. I used to jog back in the day but at 65 my joints are telling me NO. I remember sidelining my self as a jogger with things like sore knees slightly twisted ankles etc. Walking is totally pothole/pitfall free. I walk an avg of 8 miles per day and my pace is between 4 & 4.5 MPH. I basically walked my way out of a chronic respiratory condition experienced earlier this year. I was hospitalized and on Oxygen for 1 week back in Feb. Recently my BP after a week long survey avg's 114/76. My cholesterol is down my blood sugar is way down. Downside to getting in the fitness zone? My weight loss is slowing because I am not getting enough of a workout. I made an accidental discovery along the way. Its summer and I thought it best to bring water along with me. Rather than a single bottle I thought two 500ml bottles would balance me out, one per hand. They weigh slightly more than 1lb and a byproduct of walking with these light weights was better tone in wrists-arms-chest. I then stepped up to 800ml bottles @ 1 1/2 lbs per..the result was a better walking workout and continued tone & definition of my upper body. The next step was 1L bottles @ about 2lbs each which continue to help me improve my walking form and adds muscle. The beauty is...if you get thirsty you can drink, if they get heavy you can pour them out. Be sure to look at the horizon when you walk. Your head goes up to where your eyes are focused, your neck goes with it and your shoulders square up. This allows you to pull more air into your upper respiratory system. Lastly, I walk on a crushed limestone path through a Park. These tracks and trails are always humped and curved, never truly flat. I make a point of finding the flattest part of the path to walk on. At 15000 steps per day, even a tilt/slant of a couple of degrees adds fatigue to feet and shin muscles. Sounds inconsequential but it matters over the long haul. Happy motoring everybody!

Peter, you are an excellent example of how walking can be a great workout no matter what condition you begin your journey. Your water bottle tip is excellent and I love how you modified it to add upper body strength training to your walks. The biggest surprise when I began walking to recover from a serious back injury was how much it improved my mental wellbeing and outlook. I was out of work four months due to a disc injury. Once the pain ended and I could start to get into shape I began walking (I was a runner... that was a factor in my injury). I soon realized the best part of walking was how it improved my mindset and the ideas I generated while out on my walks help me see my problems and solutions crystal clear. I never returned to running! Thanks for your comment. Walk on, Frank

I meditate while walking😅. I repeat affirmations and mantras and often do gratitude meditation as well. I sometimes listen to uplifting music as well but not always. PS- I don't close my eyes while walking just think of these thoughts and be mindful. 🎉

@@genuinehuman1 Fantastic Braveheart! The benefits of affirmations and gratitude alone are enough to do, and recognized them often throughout the day. Add walking to the mix, and I believe the positive effects get multiplied. Closing my eyes while walking is interesting. I have a very wide stretch of roadway that's uphill. I start by doing 5 steps and then open my eyes to be sure all is good. I've gotten up to 30 steps before opening my eyes... It's a rush to trust that all will be well, and I would do it if it was risky. That's what's interesting... I know nothing is going to happen but...it's a trust thing. I rely on my hearing and trust that when I scanned the road before closing my eyes, all looked clear. It's no life-changing exercise, just something interesting to add to my walks along that particular route. Walk on, Frank

Sir I have depression problem Can walking cure my depression ?
@WalkingforHealthandFitness
@WalkingforHealthandFitness 2 года назад
I believe walking can help you deal better with depression. Scientist have encouraged exercise as treatment for depression and anxiety-related disorders for years. Studies of daily yoga and meditation have shown a shrinkage of the amydala, a deep-brain structure strongly linked to the processing of stress, fear, and anxiety. A smaller amydala means a lower rate of concern and worry and a heightened sense of calm allowing us to concentrate on the task at hand. Exercise has been shown to be as effective as antidepressants for patients with major depressive disorders. Exercise is important in relapse prevention. The increase in serotonin production (happy mood neurotransmitters) during exercise is responsible for the alleviation of chronic depression. Exercise helps normalize sleep which is known to be protective to the brain. I have a doubt,, blood pressure of over 135 plus is considered as high, when a person with normal blood pressure walks it goes up may be above 135 , and if a normal healthy person whose job involves walking then he will having high bp most of time, how can it be healthy then??
@WalkingforHealthandFitness
@WalkingforHealthandFitness 3 года назад
Hello Rony, sorry for the delay in responding. Regular physical activity makes your heart stronger. A stronger heart can pump more blood with less effort. As a result, the force on your arteries decreases, lowering your blood pressure. This usually takes about one to three months for regular exercise to have an impact on your blood pressure. The benefits last only as long as you continue to exercise. Walking also help relieve stress which is another cause of high BP. Keep on walking and I know you'll begin to see the benefits. @WalkingforHealthandFitness

Certainly it will lower it to a normal level if you walk at least 3 times a week. Your Dr will be surprised at the readings
@WalkingforHealthandFitness
@WalkingforHealthandFitness Год назад
@@tonyqwabe5873 Right on, Tony. The great benefit of walking is it does so much good for the body and mind, yet take only a few walks a week for the feel-good benefits to kick in. Then it becomes self-perpetuating... you walk to feel good, and you feel good by walking, and you start to do it more and more. -Best to you, Frank

How many minutes a 70 year old male person should 👣🚶 walk ???
@WalkingforHealthandFitness
@WalkingforHealthandFitness Год назад
Hello Vanraj, thanks for watching my video! I don't have a definite answer other than walk to your current ability. For example, if you can walk for 30 minutes at great, keep doing that. If you want to walk longer, set a goal to walk a few minutes longer each day. Eventually you'll reach your goal. Back off when you need a rest day and go longer when you're feeling good.
