Embark on a captivating journey with us as we recount our recent escapades along the stunning Californian coastline. Our day begins in Pacific Grove, where we take a reflective pause to savor breakfast at our hotel after the adventures of the previous day. While the breakfast and its setting didn't earn top marks, the allure of the day ahead was undiminished.
Leaving Pacific Grove, we set our course for Carmel by the Sea, a charming and touristy town nestled just 6 miles south of Monterey. Despite the early May clouds lending an air of tranquility to the place, Carmel's beauty unfolds as we explore its wide beach, meander through boutique-lined streets, and even pay a brief visit to the former mayoral domain of Clint Eastwood. The town proves itself a worthy stop, though the price tags may demand caution.
Our journey continues with a brief visit to the Misión de San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo, a historical gem that left us yearning for more time. The road to Morro Bay unfolds before us, albeit with a detour to the San Simeon area to catch a glimpse of the iconic Hearst Castle from the visitor center. A stroll along the pier in San Simeon reveals breathtaking coastal views, showcasing the region's rich history.
As we press on towards Morro Bay, we encounter the renowned rock formation, a familiar sight from the series "The Affair." Despite not being able to explore the entire area, the view is nothing short of spectacular. Our journey concludes in Los Osos at "The Baywood Inn," a quaint bed and breakfast nestled by the sea. Los Osos may not boast a plethora of activities, but its laid-back pace and friendly locals make it a hidden gem.
