Love Your Video, Bring Back Memories When I Were Station In The Army At Fort Ord. 😎👊 Back In The Days 1982 - 84 I'm Retired Now, Keep Up The Good Work ‼️
My brother was also stationed at Fort ORD. He loved playing golf on Bayonet and Black horse. It's a University now...CSUMB. My niece and nephew both graduated there. I lived in Pacific Grove for 23 years, so my niece and nephew would come over for visits and dinner...many times with friends in tow. My brother would be transferred to Fort Huachuca, but every year vacation in Monterey. He too is now retired.
I traveled through Monterey last month. I spent the night there at the campground before heading Big Sur. Next time I need to spend more time in Monterey. Thanks.
Oooh. It you travel past the Little Sur River there is a mortuary cave entrance from which I've watched highway traffic pass. That cave is vertical, wide at the top, and pinch-tight at the bottom. With several boulders that slid in to get stuck at different levels. Traffic noise and cave depth will mute all screaming. UC excavated all human bones. Native Americans and one European. Was latter an accident or murder ? On my last visit I used the chimney technique to descend solo and exit. There are other mortuary caves in California.
I'm at Monterey rn.... There are tons of things to do and we just did the 17 mile drive yesterday!!! I'm trying to figure out what to do today... I appreciate your video 👍🏽
I lived in Pacific Grove for 23 years.... I can't believe it's $49.95 to visit the aquarium....they've got to be kidding. I had friends who formed the "Pacific Grove Pt. Pinos Tide pools Coalition"...their goal was to protect the Pt. Pinos Tide pools. At one point, the aquarium was caught removing specimens from Pt. Pinos, and selling them to other marine entities. The Monterey Bay Sanctuary receives local, State and Federal environmental protections, so it was definitely illegal for the aquarium to be out collecting specimens (for profit). I'm not sure if the Tide Pool Coalition still exists, as it was a small group, and it's founder passed away.
@rubo1964 that's not what non profit means. the money from tickets and souvenirs and things goes towards upkeep of the aquarium. things like feeding the animals, their healthcare, water filtration systems, as well as paying the many employees. it's not free, because we live in a capitalist system and have to pay for things. but the money doesn't go into pockets of owners or investors or things like that.
Great video.....we visited L.A. from Scotland,UK in 2019 but my girlfriend says we must go to Monterey next time we visit..Lol! Is it best to fly to LAX then hire a car and drive up to Monterey...plenty of places to stay there? Thanks.
Monterey has its own airport. The closest big cities are San Francisco and San Jose. Would be closer to rent a car and drive from those cities instead of LA. Lots of chain and boutique hotels in Monterey and Carmel by the Sea area
@@travelingtipps You can’t enter the lab but there is a public walkway where you can see along the lab and the back of the building. You can see the vessels where he conducted his marine experiments. There are information placks there with history on him and John Steinbeck. Continue on and sit down overlooking Monterey Bay and the back of buildings along Cannery Row. Across from there is Merchant Wongs place. These people are depicted in Tortilla Flats
A very good video from the very beginning !! So nice to watch ! I've been to Carmel by the sea & all over Monterey 4 times !? It's been decades since ! One of my most favourite places in the U.S.!! I am currently planning to go back there for my birthday in November, but covid might interrupt it ...if it does ,I'd love to visit next spring ! Thank you so much for this video !! 👍👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎶💞
Enjoyed the video very much. Probably because my Gma lived in 17mi drive and owned the restaurant right across the road from lovers point called Lovers Point Inn back in 70s. As a kid my favorite playground was Dennis the Menace land in Monterey. My fav beach is Carmel River Beach. Best place to stay is Clint Eastwoods former Mission Ranch right up the road from Carmel River Beach. I also really loved his former restaurant Hogs Breath. Not sure of the quality now but back in the day was top notch for ambienc and delicious food. Thanks for bringing back those wonderful memories of much simpler times.
I did SCUBA diving to underwater wreckage. To assist my Senior Thesis on Shipwrecks Of Central California. Found one in 12 feet of water, carried a cargo of bottled beer and Spanish Mission furniture being returned to Santa Cruz, CA. That was off Carmel's Cannery Row. Swimmers can find a big steel boiler to locate it. A coastal steel tanker broke apart off Monterey in deeper water. In knee deep water beside a famous golf course are scattered pieces of various metals of another vessel. There's more but you have some clues. Mission furniture could hidden donated items of value. Gold nuggets, precious stones, silver ?
If you revisit.... Try to stay in areas like Marina, Seaside, Del Rey Oaks...cheaper rooms. If you're military.,.Hermann Hall offers discounts. Restaurants can be expensive...however...great seafood. Try the smaller hole in the wall restaurants just as good as the most visible and expensive popular/tourist restaurants. There's plenty to do, without spending money...lots of sightseeing.
?? and Thank you! Going there in two weeks and this was SO helpful! Any thoughts on the Victorian Inn Monetery? How easy is it to get from Casa M... to Aquarium?
We walked from the hotel to the aquarium which was a scenic walk along the water. It takes a little while longer than driving but I think the walk is much nicer if you have the time. The Victorian Inn has a good location near the attractions on Cannery Row, which is great if that is where you plan to spend a lot of your time. We did a few side trips away from the core of Monterey so staying a little farther away helped cut down on traffic for us
You completely left out the entire reason for the founding of Carmel. In fact it is why many cities 8n California are named. You left out the Carmel mission and St. Junipe -Serra. His saintly remains are buried there at the mission. The reason that the area looks the way it does, is because it had been blessed by Holy God.
The Carmel Mission is now a Basilica. Father Junipero Serra has been made a Saint by his Holiness Pope Francis, and is laid to rest within the small church. There is an indigenous cemetery. Also, original gardens and trees remain around the grounds and are preserved. Interesting/sad place.
@@jcee2259 If your comment is directed at me... I'm indigenous. Very well aware of the native history of the area... Ohlone, Esselen, and Coastaloan, and very well aware of the atrocious behavior Father Serra and his men committed against the native population. I lived in Pacific Grove for 23 yrs...I spoke in support of native rights and protections...did you know Pacific Grove Municipal golf course and it's local cemetery both sit within an ancient Ohlone/ Esselen village and cemetery? Actually, there's archeological evidence that the cemetery extends down to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. I do not support Father Serra sainthood, and firmly believe in today's time, he would be sitting in prison. My previous comment was merely to inform.,.. .
California's Central Coast is said to be one of the most beautiful places in the world. It's absolutely stunning. It's main industry is tourism, so some things can be expensive. It is on the central coast, so the weather can be chilly...always have a jacket... NEVER....NEVER....turn your back on those ocean waters....NEVER... Please respect the power and speed of those ocean waves.
It is absolutely breathtaking. Whenever I've had the pleasure of being there, I feel like I'm in another world. It hipnotizes me. San Francisco has the same effect on me.
@@robynlea6950 If you look at a map of California, you'll see that San Francisco is pretty much on the Central coastal area. Northern California would be places like Arcata, Ferndale, Crescent city.....etc...much further north.
@@robynlea6950 I think a lot of people assume San Francisco is in the most Northern part of the State...but...it's really not... If you flew from Los Angeles to San Francisco (some 300 miles), it would take about an hour. If you flew from San Francisco to Arcata (some 250 miles) that would also take about an hour....even still...you would not be in the most Northern part of the state. ( I once flew from San Francisco to Arcata...scary landing...)
