This song is actually about New York City. Daryl and John moved there from Philadelphia. The song is about the dark underbelly of New York and how the city can eat you up, back in the early 80s there was alot of corruption, greed, drugs and gangs happening in New York. Daryl wrote this song but refers to the city as a women so listeners can relate to that more
U should check out some “Live from Daryl’s house “ collaborations. He brings in different artists in to jam with him and his band. I love Smokey Robinson, Cee Lo Brown and Rob Thomas. Those are my 3 favorites, but honestly they are all great. Daryl Hall is in his 70’s and still recording greatness.
This was my cut!!!! I loved this song. My son was in the car with me when he was young and this song came on. He said "Ma, there go your song!" He knew.
Make a trip down to 'Daryl's House'! That's Daryl Hall's house in the 2000's. He has get togethers with huge artists for jam sessions in his home studio. Trust me, you'll like... no, scratch that... love it. :)-(:
I totally agree on Sara Smile. Great song. And if you like the Sax you need to check out Kenny G song called Song Bird I think is the name. Great Sax work from him. Check it out. You’ll love it. I promise.
Love that line: "Watching and waiting, sitting with you but her eyes are on the door. " I tended bar at clubs like that during the 70's and 80's, and I bet it's still true today.
Hey Twon, You better watch out for that "Maneater!!!" This is pure FIRE!!! So glad you're not forgetting to listen to the lyrics...You're starting to get the story in the song...Good reaction, well done!!!
Saw Hall and Oates in the 80's in concert. They were great! Sarah Smile live is great. Your kiss is on my list,..so many songs. I'm sure others will request! Great reaction!👍♥️
The Amazing Hall and Oats, I got the privilege to see them in concert in Chicago May 2018 , They Rock the house down, it was a "Dream Come True For Me" to see them, and I still have this Record! 8-)
Darryl Hall's vocals have always been that insanely talented. The older he gets he seems to become more talented..as well. This Soft Rock/ R&B band of Darryl Hall and John Oates were always a force to be reckoned with. Hit after hit..Decade after Decade.
Loved your reaction and the other ones too. Big fan of Sir Daryl , what a handsome man and great vocalist..though I wasn't even born during his prime..Love from Bangalore, India😍...
Fire fire! tears of joy hearing such great music sound voice! Wow. Keep bringing back the 'greatest' era in music. You are cool, keep doing what you are doing. This is my favorite song of theirs. That beat! I just want to dance, shake my 73 year old hips again act like an idiot, and be in pain tomorrow, who cares. LOL rewind the sax!!! OMG. I love sax!
Daryl Hall used to hang with the Temptations in his home town of Philly. When he and John Oates decided to move to NYC, that's what this song is about. Don't let the video fool you, that was back in the MTV days. They hated what the video directors did to their music so much the that they quit doing videos. That's what their song "I can't go for that" is about. The "official" video of it at the time is very similar to Maneater but this one recorded at Daryl's house is MUCH better: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GoXxdObGKuI.html
LOVE MANEATER!! So mysterious sounding..almost haunting during that AWESOME SAX SOLO!! Another unique sound is a song called "Into the Night" by Benny Mardones. It was on the charts in 1981 and again in 1988. It was requested to be played on radio stations over 4 million times!!
The saxophone solos from 'back in the day' always remind me of another ' vocalist' in those songs. It sounds like reply from the subject of the song. Here is sounds like the ' ManEater Woman is arguing her side. Almost like the ' Wah Wah Wah' Teacher sound from Charlie Brown cartoons.'One on One' next please, Twon!
As I have suggested before; Bobby Caldwell's 6:16 live version of "What You Won't Do For Love" which is great, has one of the best saxophone solos I have heard.. ♠W.G.
Oates actually has a couple songs that he’s the main singer! Actually has a good, deeper voice. Check out “Had I Known You Better Then” and “I’m Just A Kid”
Wow, had no idea he sang at all, he's always kind of just being there and I wondered quite why he had such a high billing for really just being a band member. Good to know they shared the load, I guess I only know Daryl's voice
Hall and Oats, Daryl Hall has Daryl's house, he jams with all artists from 40 years, he's still has it. A good one is Papa was a Rolling stone , with Train, Cee Lo another good one. You have to check out Daryl's House, he jams in his house,
This song is probably way more appreciated without the video now..cuz cheez level is high..lol. But their talent especially in the early 80s was smooth as hell..
