For case forming I use imperial sizing wax, if you haven't tried it you should give it a shot- great stuff and easier to clean up. I use it when I convert Lapua 30-06 to 6mm Rem Ackley.
Yes, what Patrick H.said, below, .22-243 Middlestead. The "Cheetah" is a 308 w/small bench rest primer and is a big process with regard to sizing down. My Middlestead has a .248" neck so I have to neck turn. Good stuff here, thanks because I was just about to fire form some brass but didn't want to shoot my bullets up. Granted my fire form loads were very accurate to 200yds for groundhogs so I use to shoot hogs up to 200yds which kills two birds with one stone, but now I want to form without using bullets and this will help. Thanks!
A lot more volume in the 243 case. I'm not sure a 22-250 case would like that much expansion. The 243 case is already getting expanded enough with the Ackly Improvement.
Thank you for the question and the sub : ) The believe the CHeetah was started from a 308. So I would say yes. 30 to 22 might be too big of a step tho. You might want to take it to 243 before the 22 and watch your neck thickness. If your shoving the necks into the shoulders, it's too big of a step.
Most likely yes. Would probably help to either run it through a 243 die first, as mentioned, or purchase the 22 CHeetah forming dies. The CHeetah was originally formed from Rem 308 BR brass that is no longer manufactured. I believe the brass was a bit thinner than military brass, but the big difference is the BR brass has a small rifle primer pocket. The closest thing available today would be the Lapua 308 Palma brass. When I bought my rifle it came with the forming dies (around $400 new) and several hundred pieces of BR brass so that is all I've ever used, however, I'm curious to see if regular Lapua 308 brass or LC LR brass are any better/worse than the BR brass. The forming dies can be found on ebay from time to time for around half the price of new ones.
@earl verity It's nice that dies can be purchased now-a-days. Back when we first got the Cheetah, we had to have dies made for us. The gunsmith used the Cheetah chamber reamer on a set of 22-250 dies if i recall correctly.
