Marcus is such a great talent! I’d put him at the Jenson Button level…F1 missed out on his talent…great to see him win the 500! 👊😎🔥On the same day Checo wins Monaco! Nice guys do finish first, when given an opportunity!!!
I think the F1 cars and/or circuits just didn't suit him as much. Note than in Indycar, he's won two street courses and a superspeedway, no road course as yet. With indycar, you get to chip away at your craft. F1 doesn't allow you to get comfortable with a car. It's totally different halfway into a season.
what, i agree that he is talented, but nowhere close to button. button is an absolute animal and im not saying marcus is bad, im saying you cant compare him to jenson.
Dude is a hell of a driver absolutely cannot define him based on his f1 career....we all know f1 is about the car not the driver IndyCar is about the driver not the car
He was in a crap car in F1 and he definitely had moments where he outperformed his equipment. It’s tremendous that Chip saw his true raw talent and gave him the opportunity and he definitely delivered with his win in the Indy 500. Now he has a great shot at the season title and I won’t be surprised to see him take that as well. The competition is very strong but he’ll be in the battle until the end I think. Good luck, Marcus!
I've been a Marcus Ericsson fan for years and had no idea he won the Indy 500 😭😭😭 Got to get back to watching Indy again. I'm a big fan of F1, but not necessarily Indy Car.
It's hard to say whether or not he was up to F1 in terms of his talent as a driver. Maybe more accurate to say that his driving style wasn't as much of a fit for F1, and in fairness to him he was never in a good car in Formula one. Was he the next Schumacher or Senna? No, but he probably would've pulled out some decent results in a good car. Indycars seem to suit him pretty well, he's not the fastest driver ever, but he's certainly fast enough to fight for good position and pull out some wins here and there. People are quick to judge drivers in F1 when 75% of someone's performance is due to the car, and not just whether the car is good, but whether the car suits the way they drive. Lots of people think Lewis is the greatest driver ever, and he is a really great driver, yet in a Mercedes that's fairly underwhelming he's sitting 6th and is also behind his teammate in points. Regardless of what people may think, Indycar drivers really are the cream of the crop, and racing in Indycar requires a much different approach than in F1 in terms of driving style, particularly on the ovals, so for him to be successful at least proves that he's got some pretty decent skills behind the wheel.
