Jeremy didn't want the alarm fitted, but, due to the value of the vehicle, the insurer required Ford to install the immobilizer before he could take delivery of it. It was a finger-pointing game between the insurer, Ford, and the third-party that Ford had contracted to install the immobilizer. Just a total fuster-cluck.
I know this is pedantic… But it wasn’t a GT40, it was a GT… if it was a GT40, he’d have got even less time behind the wheel than he did considering nobody over six foot two can drive it with the door shut.
Used to have one, absolutely loved it, but had to get a more economical car, and sold it to a friend/acquaintance in 2013, a few months ago I found out he scrapped it, didn't even ask if I wanted to buy it back or anything(sold it to some guy for 400€, because there where lights ON on the dashboard and no power steering), been thinking of buying one now ,but it's a 5k car for a good one and there's even a dude asking 8k atm, And even nostalgia taken into account,it's not worth that
@@uuborg9216 Well in Top gear he is very shouty and loud compared to back in the early 90s , I think he does it deliberately to be center of Attention lol
I love how accurate that anti-theft thing was compared to today where your automated gps constantly disconnects or thinks you're in a different country because it got confused by your 4G connection briefly dipping
Older cellular tech used more power, with towers fewer and farther between the signal would drop less often, but just be slow overall. You could literally power led light "stickers" that flashed when it rang with old Nokia phones. The point of 4g is more frequent but smaller antennas, so a much weaker but ultimately faster signal with multiple points of connection. It can drop when you lose signal, as the signals are much weaker
I had my window busted on Halloween. Caught the thief on 3 different cameras, and got his license plate as he hung out in my driveway for 10 min before leaving. Police won't do anything. I did their entire job for them and they can't so much as run his plates so I can press charges, or patrol the neighborhood occasionally.
Well some member of the public in another old Top Gear video, suggested that to deter car thieves, they should have a giant spike come up from under the driver's seat if an unauthorised driver is caught in it.
How awful was that office? No windows, no lumbar support in the chair, artificial lighting, terrible equipment set up and no fresh air. It's amazing how nobody saw all the terrible consequences coming.
@@Kronos0999 haha. Hate them all you want, they built the world that gives you clean water, an education system, modern medicine... Etc. Politics has been corrupt ever since its inception, long before boomers 😂 they're filthy, appalling animals. People like Nancy Pelosi make my blood boil. Especially when she scaremongers for climate change then buys a house on the sea, like Obama.
@@Sweaty__Sheep "Clean water?" No, *we* did that. Education system? Lololololol "Modern medicine?" No, their medicine involved giving kids brandy in cough syrups. Again, we changed that, boomer. :)
In 2022, I have a 25 year old, 100 series with 200k as the 3rd owner for 7 years, the past owners went on to buy newer Cruisers. Uber luxury, super smooth 4.2tdi & still a dream to drive, unlike the other 2 off roaders. Which I tested & drove. Yes, in-between I've tried to do better, but it all failed. The 6.0 Flying Spur, the 3.0 tdi Phaeton, Merc GLK 2.0 TDI, equal luxury to the old bus, but electric modern headaches & super expensive parts in the end. Friends have the 2020 Range Rovers new ones, every 6 months, they spend more time in the repair garages thus making them, OFF THE ROAD. Only the Kia Sorento 2.2 td was near to the old bus, excellent 38mpg, but failed in comfy seats. My grand total in up keep in 7 years, including services & ABS pump only after 25 years, has been £4500 in 60k. Also Bio fuel at £1 compare to £1.70 A Dam bargain. LONG LIVE the KING. Cruisers.
I mean it ain't any safer than a regular alarm system that will do that automatically, the cables are still there and there is a way to bypass it, if you can with normal alarms you can with the manual one. The only way I can see this being beneficial is if the ECU had it from the factory so that it couldn't by bypassed, thats how cars are done nowadays if they have a factory alarm, you just can't call them

Just had my 80's series floorpan rust repaired and whole interior sound deanded and reupholstered, trust me if you want a offroad vehicle get a hilux and thrash that and keep the landy garaged. I regret using my landy off road, its just my towwing rig now whenever i take the 22ft boat out or the caravan for camping and touring.

@@Tracert-mc1hu If anything, a beater is more likely to be stolen. A car being bad makes thief feel like there will be no consequences from stealing it or just driving around
Fantastic cars. Ive nearly had a few the only issue was rust so I got a MB 190E. I still pine over the E28s and I get excited every time I see them so hopefully I can get a clean one someday soon
Damn, all the old tech was actually pretty scary. Amazing it took Us this long and so many slight iterations to get to the point in consumer tech where We are now.
Wow, those are some impressive winter tires on that Sigma. They look more like rally snow tires than normal winters. Even Hakkas are not that aggressive. Of course maybe they just fitted those for the film to make it seem better than it i.
That black 5 series reg plate MRG 1X is now registered (SORN) to a 2003 Silver Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG. Ironically, Jezza did always love his fast merc's

Ironic seeing him extolling these high tech remote anti-theft devices considering the issues he had later with his GT40's aftermarket system. I bet most of these didn't work any better.

I agree. But I often think what would life have been like if this pandemic had hit us a few decades ago, in Pre Internet/Cable days. We certainly saw the best decades though 👍
