You know it’s gotten really bad when 22 Minutes does some serious reporting. Great job though, this explained the situation better than almost anyone else has so far. 👏

Housing is booming where I live - it's the cost that keeps people from buying. The BC (conservative) Government refused to do anything about foreign ownership and drove the cost sky high, saying home owners should be allowed to get the best price possible for their investment - what they didn't tell us was how their logic was creating ghost towns in neighbourhoods - now there's nothing but security guards patrolling the area, making sure the homeless don't move into those empty homes where owners live in China and never even come to Vancouver. Now Pete's blaming the Trudeau government for the housing crisis - AFTER conservatives (Harper) said "housing is a provincial matter" - Pete supported that logic....along with selling our country to China so they can dig their own oil, and giving them the legal right to sue Canada if thing don't go their way. But you have to speak Chinese to work there. Way to go CONS

No, this is not telling it like it is. This is a one sided political narrative from a government funded media outlet. If they truly wanted to help the housing crisis, they would give up the $1.3 Billion / year they take from taxpayers Are they willing to give up their CBC Pensions plan returns and provide housing at a loss? I would think not! They expect private investors to take a loss, expect other pension plans take a loss, yet when they demand more $ to fund their ‘comedy’ show, they have no regrets taking it form hard working taxpayers.

These large rental companies which play the stock market which are a part of REIT should be stopped. But I guess that will not happen because the government crown cooperation are the investor's. The only thing that might stop reit if the stock market crashes.Too many rich investors making money off the backs of the average renter. Canadian politicians and government unions should be ashamed of themselves to allow this to happen.

This is also happening in the US. Here in Ohio my landlord raised my apartments monthly rent over $100.00 a month annually for past 3 years. They blame it on "market demands" which is ridiculous. I've paid my rent on time for the past 5 years. and they don't give a damn - it's all about what they can make. We need rent control. People complain about regulatory commissions etc but in some case they are needed.

Cause the Jester tells truth in jest. Where as a journalist is supposed to tell the truth, as fact. Unaltered. Cause making it a joke could seem hurtful, or distort the story. But. Sometimes? The humour adds context. And actually makes the facts easier to process. Relying complex or horrible information will never be easy. Things will always be lost in translation. And. That's before you have to factor in any actual translation. But. Sometimes that Humor. That bit of relief. That unsheltered honesty. Can make it easier to process, handle, and. Deal with. So. We gravitate towards it. That's what I think, anyway.

That was a terrible way of examining the housing issue. There was no mention of the failure on the municipal and provincial governments, the ones directly involved in approving housing. Well in Ontario. One of the first things Doug Ford did when he got into office back in 2018 was remove rent control. That certainly did not help. In terms of Toronto specifically... you have the NIMBY people that show up to object to affordable housing of any kind being built in "their neighborhood" and most politicians afraid of losing votes usually sadly back down.

The permit process is rediculous yes, but the housing problem is the fact that the whole th8ng runs on developers capital. Makes them money. R8ght now with inflation, noone is buying new, and so they aren't building new, especially since they have to hold their holdings at higher interest than 4 years ago when everything was less expensive to speculate on

If you listen to the old granddad narrating it, this clip was put together by a boomer who owns real estate, so he doesn't take the problem seriously because he was born when homes were still affordable. Old people don't get it and kind of enjoy seeing younger generations work more than twice as hard for less than half as much.

rallying the vets in NS, its getting so bad here, action is needed. Most of us are ignoring laws and building. Funk you to Canadians that would sit around and allow this to continue. I'm fortunate I have a home, its uninsurable and it took my moms passing to be able to afford it... But if I'd stayed in Ontario, id be homeless, with mental illness and physical disabilities. Now I'm housed and its time to fight for the right for all Canadians to be housed. For context. I lived with my mom during my depression... She passed, I inherited half of the house, went to buy the other half from my sister, and learned that to qualify for a mortgage in KW I needed income of $150k!!!! Was forced to sell my childhood home and move 2000km away just to afford an outright home purchase. I have guests from China with me right now, they have easier home buying criteria back home. How!? We only have 40mill population, and a land mass that could sustain over 20x that, there is land, and resources....so what the actual funk is going on?? In the next year I will be make efforts to "correct" injustices in our country. Everyone needs to organize. I voted liberal then NDP in the last 2 federal elections, I won't be voting for other parties in this climate, our parties are broken. Time for change (tho in 20 years well likely all need to learn Chinese lol

Landlords have no rights in tribunal court and tenants are constantly neglecting to pay the rent, clean the units, smoking and doing drugs etc etc etc. I would never buy a property and rent it to anyone under these conditions. The ONLY saving grace as of recent is that the property availability rate has gone very low. Meaning tenants are starting to think what if I lose this place, where would I go? There is no where else to rent with vacancy rates so low. So maybe they will pay the rent and keep it clean since they plan on staying. But I would still never make this investment. To many nightmare stories!

Socialism is a snake eating its own tail. Pierre Poilievre understands housing affordability better than this comedy show. The problem is slow approval, zoning restrictions, deficit spending, and a weak economy. I wish it was as simple as some Scrooge McDuck real-estate tycoon milking the market, but real life is more nuanced. It's gonna require all of us to take some personal accountability. That means stop depending on the state and start depending on sound, free market economics.
