Hi Marina, I just wanted to say thank you 💕 I had to take the TOEFL last week very spontaneously so basically my only preparation was watching your videos. I was able to score 107 points 😊 especially the speaking templates were so helpful. Also thank you for getting me really excited about my year abroad, love your positive energy
@@nodirarahmankulova742 depends on where you are in the US. It's widely used in a formal way in the southern US states. Kids are taught to address/respond to adults with "Yes ma'am, no Sir" etc... But definitely not all that common everywhere... it's viewed as somewhat stiff.
“Perk up”, comes from when coffee used to be made on the stove in a “percolator” , (or coffee pot). The coffee grounds would be in a small basket at the top of the percolator and water in the bottom. The water would boil on the stove and move up through a tube at the center of the percolator to come out on top of the coffee grounds then drip back down into the water. This would repeat itself again and again until all of the water had become coffee. You’re welcome.
Nope. perk was being used LONG before coffee was a thing. It simply means to enliven ... percolation is way later in origin. But, the image of a percolating pot is envigorating....

Your teaching content are of always of top - notch for sure and I'm really fortunate enough that I got a teacher like you who always put her best foot forward I really appreciate ur hardwork .Loads of loads from india 😊😊😊😊😊🥰🥰🥰🤗🤗🤗🤗
Hiii, I love this video, it's so helpful Also, can someone explain to me why in this sentence: " I like to sleep in on weekend" we use the infinitive form TO sleep in, instead of "I like sleeping in on weekend" ? Or we can use both? I'm struggling with gerunds and infinitives and its uses 😔
Gerunds and infinitives can usually be used interchangeably. The gerund is a little less formal, and would be preferred if it starts the sentence. One note: It should be "on weekends" or "on the weekend".
Thanks for teaching this marina! I always wake up at 5:30 am and then watch some English learning videos and then get up at 7:30 am. Correct me the sentence if it's wrong.
She started the lesson with 'To wake up' and then ends the video with 'To doze off' , I mean that was very ingenious. And yet another valuable english lesson indeed. Thanks a ton 😇😇
