Agree! I have not been able to find a map of seismic activity, with the actual cities overlaid on top. You have to go back and forth. I'm also researching the illegal dumping in Bussi, Abruzzo, to understand the implications on various towns, groundwater, etc.

There are 8 regions. The town or village must have under 20k population. • Abruzzo • Molise • Puglia • Basilicata • Campania • Calabria • Sicily • Sardinia There’s a database where you can look up a town.

Anyone can buy property. No need to be a resident or citizen. Depending on how long you want to stay, you’ll have to apply for a long-stay visa.

It’s good to know there are amazing deals like that!

What area/town did you get your place? $20k tops will be work you'll do yourself plus materials, or is that $20k for contractors/architect/geometra/labor/materials?

It may look like they have decent bus service, but when you drill down (or try to use it as I have), you will find that a bus stop doesn't necessarily mean good transport. There are often buses that run according to the school schedule, so maybe one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Many don't run on weekends, some run better one way, but coming back takes several changes and additional hours. Abruzzo is beautiful but tough for public transportation, except for the big towns. Realtors and locals will tell you that you should rent a car. @@traveltirement

You pay taxes in Italy and get a credit for those taxes on your US return. So there’s no double taxation.
