Love to bench for reps? Then we've got the perfect challenge: 20 sets and 210 total reps. Think you can't handle it? Mike Rashid is confident that you can.

For years, tens of thousands of fans have followed Mike Rashid's every lift, thought, and "mental jewel" across social media, RU-vid, and in live appearances nationwide. But even in his most popular videos, the soft-spoken Brooklyn native can still often seem guarded, like he's unwilling to let us inside, and would rather let his actions speak for him.
On a recent trip to Boise, Rashid pulled back the curtain in an exclusive video with Bodybuilding.com, touching on his upbringing, his passions, and his goals for himself. Have a watch, and then set aside some time to watch him recreate one of his most iconic workouts, the 225-pound, 210-rep Iron Marathon bench-press gauntlet!
Back in 2013, Mike Rashid subjected himself to a workout as brutal as they come his body weight (225 pounds) for 210 total reps across 20 laddering sets, a workout he said came from "the sick mind of CT Fletcher." But nearly as arresting as the routine itself is the bizarre, dreamlike setting where it takes place. The room is pitch black, and the only sounds the viewer hears are rattling iron, grunts of pain and exertion, and the unmistakable bellow of Fletcher goading Rashid onward.
This is the Iron Marathon, and it's clear from the start that at any weight, it's only for the brave.
"It was the hardest thing I've ever done with weights," Rashid says-and that's saying something. So imagine how shocked we were when Rashid wanted to recreate this workout in Bodybuilding.com's hometown of Boise, with the one and only Kris Gethin there to spot and push him onward. This was something we had to see!
Don't trust your bench? Sorry, Rashid says you still can't escape. "It can be done with any compound movement: squats, deadlifts, shoulder press," Rashid says. You can also do it with far less than body weight, in the knowledge that it will help you find your limit. "Just push yourself. You know, the human body is amazing. Don't subscribe to the notion that you have to take your time or only do this only so often. Listen: The human body adapts. Trust yourself. You can handle it."
A note on programming: Because Rashid is incredibly strong for his bodyweight, use a percentage of your 1RM (single-rep max) as your working weight instead. In the video Rashid is using 45 percent of his 1RM, so you might want to try 50 percent of your 1RM, or half of your max as your working weight. Try to push through each set as much as possible, but if you need to rest in the middle of a set, do it.

Buy white rice, a steamer, and ground sirloin. Eat 5 meals a day with 1/2 cup of cooked rice and 8 oz of cooked ground sirloin. Add other vegetables, milk, eggs, and fruit to give needed micronutrients. Do 3 progressive sets of 5, each, for flat and incline bench on one day of the week. Three days later, do 3 progressive sets of 10 , each of flat and incline. On each chest day, add 3 progressive sets of 10 of a random one of of the following exercises: dips, cable crossover, dumbbell flys, smith machine bench, or dumbbell bench. Note: make sure you're working back equally, either on the same day as chest or the following. Seated Row what you bench. Lat pull down what you incline. For 3rd back exercise, random one of the following: reverse dumbbell flys, smith machine rows, narrow grip seated row, narrow grip lat pull down, or stiff arm pulldown. If you already got 225, congrats. If not, try that program for a 6 months. Good luck!

@@immortaltitan5869 - yep. That's why I added that part at the end. Add or subtract food based on your weight. General rule is 1 gram of Protein per pound of lean body weight, per day. After a year, you'll want to vary the routine, periodically. Go for max occasionally and de-load every once in a while, just to let your body fully recover, but keep the blood flowing. Good luck!

No headphones is the way to go. Easier to stay focused and in the zone, rather than relying on music to get you motivated. Besides, nothing like the clang-clang sound of the weights as they go up and down. Beats are for sissies.

Iam Sam I agree, but that's not always the case sometimes people are motivated to keep going by the music which allows some people to probably stay more focused than others in my opinion this would be in my case and experience at least.

Fk i used to be able to do 6-8 reps of 225. But because of school couldnt go to the gym as much and lost my gains. Now i can only do 3-4 reps of 225. Should probably incorporate this into my workout. Ofc doing my body weight of 175lbs cause id probably die and not even reach 10 sets if i did 225. Much respect to this guy. 225 might seems like a little to someone his size but the increasing reps per set really would take its toll on you. Im fuckin amazed that he powered on through. Big dedication from this guy.

It can depend because I like to mix things up cus there will be times for example if I'm on the benchpress I will do 20 reps with 100KG then at 140KG I'll do 3/5 reps 160KG 2/3 reps 180KG 1 rep. Then when I go to incline on the second set I will do 20 reps with 100KG then same on decline.
