In todays video we take a look at a noisy Signal generator. Support us on Patreon; / theradioshop Contact Information; gokarters.com/smf/index.php?to... Discuss this on my website; www.gokarters.com/smf
Another great job Buddy. You sure know your profession. It’s always fun to watch you diagnose and fix the equipment that you work on. I wish there was someone near me with half of your knowledge and abilities. Have a very Merry Christmas
Great to hear from you Buddy........Have a great Christmas and a very very happy 2020......looking forward to more video's from you soon......nothing better than having them running in the workshop while I am putting in the long hours
What a nice Sunday evening stopping in to check on my friend and see another beautiful piece of equipment working as it should. Please have a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year, Buddy. .. Mel
Love it, i love another tech view and how he goes into it. Completely inspires me to open mine again for a new input stereo /mono mod , love that yours is outputs been moded with what seems to be bnc, thats what i did with mine
That is why I wanted one of them for over 40 years. I finally got one about a month ago. All works except for the modulation. I think I will check Q9. Thank you for posting this. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Much simpler to work on than my Wavetek 3001 that bit the dust.
The modulation will drop out if the variable resistor that controls mod is bumped or vibrates out of spec. I forget the R number but it is clear in the instructions which one I'm talking about. Usually, I can just reach in and make the adjustment with my finger to get it to come back. Once you get it working you might try some type of creep lock. I have also had q9 go bad. I'd try the VR first. I really like the E200D and have restored three of them.
I have a 2050 B&K signal generator small and compact that I have to calibrate as it's off frequency. I like the bigger one you are working on. I did acquire a 800A McGraw- Edison VHF-UHF standard signal generator but it needs work also. I need a bigger shack with more work bench space. Thanks Buddy we love all your videos.
Nice score on the goodies Lyle. Looks like we both need bigger shops. Going to build a new garage bay and convert the old one to more electronic shop. Thanks for stopping in.
That is a nice sig gen. The trouble shooting with your signal tracer is another good tip. As usual, I learned something new. Thanks for sharing this with us, Buddy. 73 de K7RMJ Frank
B&K was trying in 1970 or so to bring to market a more "laboratory" type sig gen to the market to upgrade the Eico and Heathkit generators that all the TV radio repair shops were using at the time. I don't know what it cost but I would imagine it was in the $300-500 class. A lot of money at the time but not into the thousands that the new HP stuff would have cost at the time. Interesting as always Buddy. Merry Christmas to you and the family.
Enjoyed the video Buddy and I learned a lot. I've restored three of these but did not have my Rigol SA at the time. I need to get more familiar with the SA so I think I'll duplicate your setup and run through the E200D on my bench again. I'm so afraid of blowing my SA, I don't use it. If you have any safety tips on using the SA, I'd love to hear them. Then maybe I"d use it more. Thanks and Merry Christmas, Doc
Thanks Doc, You can get a DC Block to protect your SA. They are a bit pricey though. But well worth every penny. I will also link in a DIY device made by Mr Carlsons Lab below. Have a very Merry Christmas.
I've always liked these B&K's but they can be rather large in size as you know...my workbench is already jam packed with gear! What's the difficult level using the IFR aligning, not as fluid or fast? Enjoy the video. Merry X-Mas Buddy! ~Jack, VEG
Hey Jack. Yes they can be rather large. IFR is quick and easy and I use it for alignment quite often. In fact it was on during this one. Merry Christmas
Great video Buddy. I'm looking at buying one from Ebay and needed a good review of it first. Thank you. Ps. If it needs a little work can I ship it to you?
Merry Christmas Buddy . I have a tram d300 and it has a problem with the transmit . I was wondering if you work on those radios ?As I don't know any tecknitions near me I live in SC . Thanks Eric
Scott gave some good advice. I am so busy it would be quite a while before I could look at it. Plus he is closer. Merry Christmas to you and thanks for stopping in.
I've restored old test equipment but gave up on them. I've gone to older HP digital equipment. It's just so much easier to use and more accurate. Also what cost $30,000 you can get used for a thousand.
Hello Buddy, I have just gotten a B&K E200D signal generator to restore and appreciate seeing your video. You were holding technical manual pages of the unit while discussing adjustment of each band. Is a download of that manual or pages from it available? Thank you, Tom Niemeier
@@TheRadioShop Thank you for responding. I have down loaded the Instruction Manual and Service Manual, however these manuals do not include the page shown in the video at 13:38 / 27:28 showing the coil and Screw Adjustors. Thank you for your help
i myself dont care for these things. ive had 2 and they were perfectly working units. both lost modulation and i did all the stuff i could do to it. i must have changed out every part in the whole pc board like 3 times. used correct parts too. they are both parts units now. im sure they were good units and some are still in working order. im using a logimetrics 925 nixie tube readout and it far outperforms these. they are getting cheap too. got mine for 60 bucks and a parts unit for 15. best of luck!!
