Time to dive into the George Collins' collection! First up is this Heathkit IG-102 RF signal generator. It turned out to be a relatively quick and easy restoration to get it cleaned up and working again.

Looks very good. I built one in 1977 along with an HR-10B.

Nice work, especially the face plate! The BNC connector will remain a relevant connector for quite a while, with all of the equipment that uses it! Recapping is one of the first things I do before applying power, with any equipment ten years or older, as electrolytic caps are prone to drying out, leaking and shorting, causing so many problems. I have even started testing resistors as the old carbon composition resistors are drifting out of tolerance, as well. I buy my electrolytic caps in bulk now, and I have quite the surplus! As long as I buy equipment, I will need them to keep the equipment going!

You had the 20 MHz bandwidth limit turned on on your scope. That is why you had to turn up the gain on the o-scope so much on the high frequency output band.

Aha, good catch!

Nice work! What value safety caps (x caps?) did you use on there? I haven’t done much of that.

I've used both 0.1uF and 0.01uF in my projects.

@@levelupeelab thanks, so whatever the OEM spec was gets replaced with a new x cap, I guess

Your Siglent scope does not have 50Ω input capability. It just changes the voltage scale.

That model does have a 50Ω input capability.

Good work! How much you want to bet that the encrusted dirt protected the paint finish? All in all, good job to bring a decent and worthy unit back to life. ...and, hey! You got my old novice station receiver! You can keep it, though! It's possibly THE WORST amateur receiver ever made!

hello, have you put the cable directitly to the antenna connector of the AM radio ?
@levelupeelab
@levelupeelab Год назад
No, it is a couple of inches away. Only need loose coupling between the two.
