I have been thinking of getting a 22lr as a trainer. This gave some good insights! Thanks for the video!

a bolt can be adjusted/modified by a gunsmith, i think a bull barrel in a 22 lr will shoot small groups with a lot of different 22lr

agreed, ive seen a few smiths that will precisely headspace your 22 for whatever round you prefer. very cool. Id love to become a gunsmith one day!

I have an FX Impact Mk3 with .22 and .25 barrels and a Bergara B14R .22lr and enjoy both equally. I really want a Vudoo though.

Love my CZ 455 it loves eley subs. Not really into long range. The longest range shooting I do is from my roof. I climb up there with my tripod, NV and pick off rabbits from 20-80 yards its a bit of a balancing act and my legs start to shake uncontrollably after a while but I get a total 360deg view of my small property. I need to build a shooting bench up there LOL no sure the wife would like the idea.

80 yards on a live target is a solid shot with a sub 22 imho!

@@meatheadmarksman2013 Not much moving going on With the NV "cheap IR photon XT" they don't know I am up there and are sitting targets. I have a new night vision coming a OneLeaf Commander NV 100 its cheap and gets go raps. I don't use NV much only when the rabbits or foxes get a bit out of hand so an expensive unit would be a waste for me. The best I have done from the roof was a fox at about 25 yards with my CZ 455 and subs. It took about two weeks of planning. I put dog food out in a bowl every night for about 2 weeks and a trail cam. I learnt the fox was very punctual 20:45 - 21:00 every night he would come for his feed. I got up on the roof 25 yards on the LRF horizontal setting and at 20:50 his head was in the bowl with a hole in it. He drop on the spot still had food in his mouth no twitching or any movement after the hit. His head landed in the bowl. I would not use 22lr with subs on a fox if it was not that close. I have got two from my spare bedroom window the same way food bowl and trail cam. The wife is still bitching about me removing the fly-screen and not putting it back on. The truth is I cannot work out how to put the bloody thing back on came off easy. PS: Just pre-ordered 5 boxes of Zan slugs for my M3.

For myself, the beauty of the air rifle is the cost of use and the ability to use one safely in in more densely populated areas. I can sit down and put pellet after pellet through my HW 97 without having one concern for my hip pocket nor a concern for what lies over the next hill. While my air rifle isn't silent, it isn't "scary" loud either. Few people worry about air rifles. When they start hearing the report from a .22LR (or bigger), ears start to prick up even amongst seasoned shooters. This mightn't be an issue for a lot of shooters depending on their means and their location but I'd rather drop the big tickets on something that is convenient and cost effective to operate. Air rifles can't be beaten in that context.

There's a heap more upsides to airguns for me, I like that I can basically do pretty much all the gunsmithing myself, make it quiet, make it short, long, shoot pellets, slugs, arrows whatever!

@@meatheadmarksman2013, PCP's would seem to be at a greater advantage in that regard than my "old fashioned" spring rifle. That said however, I did manage to do a "trigger job" on my rifle which was a huge improvement. If you need to borrow a spring compressor made from a hardwood floor board and some 3/8 NC all thread, let me know. I will make the leap to PCP one day, I promise!

There are 2 others which are cheaper ariguns around 1000$ which are powerfull and accurate turkish brand Kral ARMS model BigMax X in .25 cal (67 foot pounds stock and little bit tune to 81ftp) and Kral Arms Big Horn in .30 cal. And their new sub company Reximes Throne 2 in .25 cal regulated its have weraker power but extrempley accurate like the fx so its a releif of the heavy price tags if you want something for 300-500 yards you can do it with them and some adjustable elavation rings like FX no limit scope mount rings. + 60$ cheap pump from ebay you can get those things really on a budget accurate and powerfull without braking the bank.

22lr offers all kinds of velocities. I wouldn't waste time trying to reload them.. pcp airguns are nice but I'd rather have a good pile of 22lr and dont have to worry about pumping air all the time. I keep the good old diana break barrel for pest control and the 22lr for longer range stuff

G'day Uncle Hodge! - another awesome video..............I'd like to add a constructive comment. I attended a Military Academy from the age of 11 - full time for 5 years. There was only ever 240 kids there any academic year. After getting kitted out at the QM store, and having squared away the Civvies, the next issue was a Lee Enfield in .22 from the School Armoury. We shot these in our own Indoor Range as Noobs for the first 13 weeks. Only if you received 1st Class or Marksman grades did you progress to .303 - What's my point you say? The concept of training folks with .22 prior to large bore was present in the British Forces as a philosophy before the Second world War and was perpetuated through every Military Academy until I left/graduated.. It's a time proven concenpt - and IMHO - the only way to build muscle memory and efficacy in operations. Great Video

Get a dog up ya son. Nice vid & solid analysis - I'm about to sell my precision 22LR - Izhmash Bi-7-2-KO. It'll keep up with $5k of German bench restyness for 1/4 the price, shoots like a laser on $10/box. Lemmie know if you'd consider it!

hmm did u take down my last comment ? muzzle brake deflector are allowed in oz it pushes sound down range instead of sideways and isnt a suppersor

No I didn't take it down, I've got a little notification for it but when I click it it goes to your other comment. It happens alot, even on comments that are completely innocuous, RU-vid is weird. I like the idea of the blast jacket. I saw them in cleavers.
