I completely agree with you on this Sonny. All of these swimmers should receive lifetime bans, end of story. It amazes me time and time again how China gets away with systemic, often state-sponsored doping on so many occasions and their athletes get just a slap on the wrist from international federations, while still competing and stealing medals away from the clean athletes. Shameful.

As a chinese I can't express my disappointment for my country. The government basically makes the national team use PEDs for the "glory of the country" and it's sometimes even without the knowledge of the swimmers themselves. As a swimmer aiming for the Olympics and is currently training in the US, I can say that I would rather quit than take PEDs. I hope that you all will keep in mind that there are swimmers on the national team that do not dope, and I ask that you don't ill treat them because of our country's bad reputation.

Excuse y ignorance on this topic, but roughly how long do the benefits of the PED last/impact the swimmer's performance. I.e. if say Qin was doping in early 2021 and then stopped that year, would he still be feeling the performance benefit 2 years later when he broke the WR?

Makes you wonder what went on/IN at the DOHA swim meet and how “ well” the Chinese swimmers did??

As far as I know of the case, the hotel kitchen which these chose was contaminated with TMZ, a drug which comes in pill form, and which a swimmer previous tested for because it has endurance-boosting properties. Wow what are the chances?!! On a more serious note, is there potential that this is done deliberately and mixed in with food so the athletes are unaware (towards an E.German model of systematic ingestion)? I would always be curious as to why the 7 others weren't contaminated - different food, or just a lower level which passed the test? The silence is unbelievable, it harks back to the days of 'inadvertent use', or 'files being removed from a safe' - levels of cover-up. If there is evidence to show they are innocent, why wasn't it shown at the time?

This is a terrible surprise, I really hope the IOC does right and return the medals to non-enhanced athletes as soon as possible as this is not a contamination issue, as well as they control the situation and stop them from competing. East Germany back in the day, Russia, China, Government anuthorised systemic is insane and unfortunately casts doubt over everyone at the Pinnacle of their sport not just those caught. These discoveries only add fuel to concepts like the Enhanced games where they are not only encouraged to juice by any means possible, but they get paid life changing money to do so. I feel some vindication because I have been saying they have been doping since at least Beijing, and most of my friends have just rolled their eyes at me. That being said, I dont believe the majority of the Chinese swimmers knew they were doping, I think it was done to them. I dont have any malice or bad thoughts for the individual swimmers, I wish them the best, but they cannot be allowed to compete in International competition because of what their country did to them. And I hope WADA follows through with their lawsuit, because Id love to see them have to open their financials and documentation, and get dragged through court by the USADA lawyers.

I’ve always supported different nations, and I truly enjoyed how the Koreans, for instance, managed to medal despite being short. Still, with the Chinese specifically, it has always been the case where someone will come break a record then just disappear, most notably that lady who went faster than Ryan Lochte in the IM.

I don't remember if it was the 2012 or 2016 Olympics but I remember that there was a controversy with Russian swimmers doping, and they were still allowed to compete (albeit not under their national flag). Then they ended up losing to Americans and other swimmers anyways. I almost hope that the Chinese team is allowed to compete in 2024, just so that they can be embarrassed. I definitely think that Peaty has the ability to beat Qin in the 100 Breast, and Marchand absolutely can beat him in the 200 (in fact I'd say Marchand is probably the favorite in the 200 Breast if he does it.) 200 IM as well, I think Marchand can break the WR and beat Sun Yang.

This is exactly why I've been saying remove Sun Yang's 1500m Freestyle WR and strip all his medals. A lot of people say "well he didn't test positive during that time" and my response is: 1. He's still a drug cheat 2. As proven with this situation, positive test results can come up from years ago. How do we not know that he has been cheating his entire career?

This happened in cycling where all were using drugs. It's happening less now, but people will always try and get one over the honest cyclists or swimmers. Such a sad state of affairs when people put so much effort and sacrifice into their training over such a long period of their lives. Offenders should be kicked out of all competition for life. I have a pragmatic, albeit cynical, attitude towards these types of "scandals". I personally believe all, yes all, ultra top level athletes (and lesser of course) use ped's, and have for the last 50 plus years. Full stop, end of story. I can't believe that anyone would think or hope that international sport could be clean when it hasn't been ever. None of our heros were clean. And that's ok. I mentioned Duncan Scott in my other comment. He was the only person to protest China on the podium before. I really think we shouldn't stop talking about this. Russian athletes couldn't even compete under their nation's name last Olympics (maybe even more, can't remember), but China looks like they'll get a pass. As many people in the community as possible should be putting the pressure on.

I was one of the guys that always commented that they were cheating every time China got a new gold. Firstly, their olympic weightlifting team is visibly on steroids which you can tell because they lose a lot of muscle in between olymplic competition years. But more importantly, you can track these swimmers' progress! You don't just randomly become a gold medalist over night. Usually, the audience sees your progression for years leading up to it and it's expected that you'll be on the podium multiple times before you actually achieve it. And that applies to the success of the team too. It takes years and years to develop depth in a team. This sport is hard enough that exponential improvement is impossible, the best is linear and that's reserved for the greats. Lastly Duncan Scott has been robbed multiple times, and the 100m free world record is bs, as is their relays.

Zac Stubberty Cook from Australia is still the 200m breaststroke world champion/olympion and world record holder. Every athlete in swimming knows it.
