My husband is a forest surveyor and he talks out loud or sings to let the bears know he's there. 33 years and he's seen so many, but never had a problem.
Thanks Ladies. Great adventure. We crossed over Forester Pass this past summer. I couldn't imagine crossing it covered in snow. I had to keep telling my wife not to look over the edge. Power to you.
Lol!! “ That’s what friends are for!” Great video, scarry bear story, you guys are awesome and doing big mileage days! I’m so envious and enjoy your videos! Thanks for posting !
So, as I watch this excellent vlog, all I hear in my head is🎶when the going gets tough, when the going gets rough, the tough get going🎶. Oh, and let’s throw in a bear!
Yall are smart for moving forward and passing up that section. Thank you for letting others know it's ok to do that and keep their safety in mind, especially new hikers. Thank you for sharing all you do. Stay wild, feral and safe!
Love all the wonderful support around you as you face further challenges and appreciate your attitude as you keep moving south. You continue to encourage your virtual support team through your wonderful example. Your bear experience reminds me of the time we were hiking on a trail in the Oregon Coast Range and I heard massive rustling in the bushes. I turned back to hike closer to my husband just in time for a black bear to cross right in front of us and roll down hill through the thick underbrush and massive trees. It happened so fast but felt like time slowed down for that moment. Sending virtual support and hugs from your Oregon Buddy !
Wow scary bear encounter and long water carries makes for some adventure. Always love seeing the town dance. Keep it up and thanks for the inspiration you all are!!!
I am so impressed with your flexibility and resourcefulness. Thanks for sharing the many wonderful trail angels and friends. I followed a British hiker on her PCT journey and she was surprised and touched by the generosity and kindness of trail angels. How would anyone ever finish without their help?
Good decision to skip ahead! Hiking is adventurous and beautiful but mountains are to be respected, especially the High Sierra. Plenty of adventure ahead with Baden Powell and San Jacinto.
Too bad about the 80 miles, but the next 700 miles will make up for it! 😀 What a story about the bear! Love the Joshua tree and the hight dessert! Carrying water on the other hand is a pain... Keep going! Kaat
Good decision to skip Forrester Pass. I have that section to do too. Two years ago I hiked Kennedy Meadows South SOBO, in September. I’ll be watching to see how you do and pray that you’ll have all the water you need.
Well you should be good to go the rest of the way down south. Only question mark is Mount San jacinto. Once you get past the Mojave desert section and start climbing up into wrightwood, hopefully it won’t be too snowy yet between there and big bear. But I think you will be fine for that part. Hopefully you can plan to do a nice trip from onion valley up to Whitney then to Kennedy meadows south. That’s a glorious section. Well you are def in bear country right there. The good thing about black bears is that they are afraid of people for the most part. But they do love to sneak your food at night. Glad you are back in trail. And bring safe. Thanks for posting.
The scenery you are sharing is AMAZING! Someone posted that I should stay in Ohio and we have great scenery too but thank you so much for sharing your walk with us 😍
The PCT just keeps throwing you curve balls but you ladies just roll with it! Scenery has definitely changed. There’s a real Hidden Valley Ranch? Good luck over the next 700 miles!
When the weather demands you turn, it's what you do. Then you rest, "recalculate" and set out again. :-) Then a bison! (Edit: it was a BEAR. I don't know why I heard "bison"...) Another day, another great adventure, but I hope that desert sky rewarded you with amazing views of the universe before you fell asleep.
That’s for the memories did Walker Pass in ‘19 resupplied at Onyx Store super cool lady made the best sandwiches and was able to recharge shower laundry and rest up in the garden outback. The Postoffice was really helpful also. Enjoy your Sobo to the border.
Aww disappointed for you lassies that you had to skip some miles but would rather have you safe and sound. STILL ( 🤣🤣😍) be safe, be warm, enjoy and as always loving the views videos and you guys. 💛
Loving your journey, wanted to share a bear encounter something similar. - When I was a kid camping in Idaho in pup tents, my Dad awoke to something running through the brush in the middle of the dark night, sat up and boom, a bear headbutted him, accidentally of course, but it left a heck of a shiner, thankfully nothing worse, but my parents scooped us up and we all slept in the car that night. Freak accident.
I love the way you just adapt to the things nature sends you, great lessons for all of us. The weather is so unpredictable and you can't do a thing about it. All the changes of scenery are nice to see, great videos. The bear encounter must have been so scary for you and him. I'm sorry you are having trouble receiving my goodie box in Lone Pine and Ridgecrest, but that's the way it goes I guess. It's quit a story about the resupply box. Love the town dance along with the town faces. I see Lynn doesn't wear gators, any reason? Are you back to hanging your food bags? Happy travels. Take care, be safe.
Always good to see you women. Kristy, what was immediately going through your mind with the bear? I hope I would react a calmly as you. It still must have been an adrenaline rush! Joshua Tree is yet another area on my bucket list. :)
Always play it smart. Just left Utah 10/11 could not go to Bryce-snow. Groucho said it best " I'd never join an organization that would have me as a member".
Hello Wander Wemon, I hope that you all are doing well. Another amazing video of your adventure. Really neat about the bear encounter. I do have a question. When your out hiking do you carry any kind of protection with you?
Hmm, Pesky's been awfully quiet lately. Are you sure she wasn't the hiker ahead of you and deliberately scared the bear in your direction. I wouldn't put it past her after failing to nab your goodie boxes, making you rush to her aid for an emergency only to find that emergency was a lack of toilet paper and sneaking her heavy items into your packs to carry for her. She's probably having a "that'll teach you" chuckle not to far off from you all. Stay safe out there and stay on alert for that pesky Ms. Pesky. You just never know what she'll try next.
Hey WaWo fans. Guess who just released a new music video? You'll recognize this voice as soon as you hear her. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EBrNZIELK6I.html
