Ho Chi Minh City is the most amazing city you will ever visit. I spent a year living in Ho Chi Minh City and it was the most incredible year of my life. This city is so incrediblY energetic and lively.

5:50 - One of the best moments of my life so far - standing in the Post office with my family on my first day in Vietnam. We stood under the photo and took a picture underneath the Ho Chi Minh painting
Thank you very much for making this video! I’ve been living in this city ever since I was born, so I really appreaciate you introducing foreign friends about our culture and history!
Just wanted to say thank you for making this video. I was born in Vietnam and have visited it quite a few times..but I haven't been back in over 12 years. Seeing all the amazing places and foods makes me miss it even more. Thank you for letting me see how Vietnam has evolved so much. I love my country!!!
Saigon will always be in my heart because I was born there. Vietnamese people here are definitely diverse since they come from all cities of Vietnam. There are many unique places that one must see....I will be there in January because the weather will be cooler than the rest of the year....
I was visiting Saigon last week. and it was such an amazing experience. I visited the Chuchi Tunnel, the place which make the Vietnamese won over The US army, it was a great place to visit. hopefully, I can visit Saigon again next time.
+aiman acap sure you can find some Halal restaurants, i had also visit one of the restaurant, the owner is Muslim from Singapore. Or you can find Indian restaurants too. they will have the 'halal' sign :D
One of the BEST video about Saigon I've ever seen. It makes me miss home sooooo much. There are places in this video I've never been to, the musems for instance. Anyway, nice work!
thanks. i was in Bangkok for 2 months earlier this year and it was thanks to your video that gave me loads of ideas for things to do and eat! i'm off to Saigon next week for the 1st time.
I am a Vietnamese and I always visited Saigon every summer holliday school when I‘m a child. Even I had lived in Saigon around 2years before I go overseas for study but you are know more museum at Saigon than me !!! You did a good job Mr. What a amazing video ❤️
Wow! I'm really impressed with this episode. It really feels like a full-fledged travel show at this length and you packed it with so much great content. The e-book takes it to the next level. Thank you, Mark. Really nice work. Very enlightening and entertaining.
I'm your big fan Mark . How old is your boy now ? I'm Vietnamese American , I left my country almost a half of century and never return even I miss my relatives and friends a lot . Due to scary of fly ! ! ! I really appreciate your videos very much and thankful for your efforts to visit my birth country , Mark . visit my birth country
Last time I've been in Saigon was in 2003...lots of well known places...and so many new ones like the enlightened bridge and this huge tower.Street life is still the same: chaos but good street food at every single corner.Thank you for this video!
It’s amazing how far Vietnam has come from such a scary terrifying place to live during the time of the Vietnam War, which wasn’t that long ago, to such a beautiful attraction in such a short time. That place literally used to be hell only just years ago
This is a very helpful video,Mark. I’m going back in January, 2023 for a month. Exploring the whole country and visiting Nha Trang where I served during the Vietnam war.
I went for a month visit over 10 years ago and fell in love with the city, people, food, customs and a woman and stayed. It's my home and am so homesick, having had to return to US for a few years. Hope to get back later this year. My only complaint is my neighborhood is surrounded by McDonald's, Burger King, Pizza Hut and Popeye's Chicken (that overtook one of my favorite Trung Giang coffee shops). My wife has spoiled me with traditional Vietnamese food.
My ex-girlfriend's uncle drove me around this city few years ago. It was like a small tour so I wasn't able to see a lot, but still I can say it was a beautiful city.
Your videos are awesome! thanks for sharing your passion. We love Vietnam and the food there is to die for. We spent 16 days there when we last traveled. The food states so fresh and the people were so welcoming.
Thx u for the great tour video, Mark. I was born in VN and left when I was 7 in 1975. The city has grown so much. Great tips on the city's landmarks. You have inspired me to go back. . The food looks so tantalizing. I can see that you enjoyed the food with those clips at the end. Safe travel to you.
I'm going to Vietnam next month. Now i'm so excited by all the recommendations you have shown. Thanks so much for this quick video of what to do. Very helpful :)
Those were very beautiful and interesting places to see . The post office looked like a place I 'd love to see. I skipped on seeing Saigon when I visiting Vietnam but only because of my two week time limit there. I don't want to rush thru a city just to say I've been there. Now I'm thinking about heading back to Southeast Asia and I want to see Saigon. And I also want to say - the people of Vietnam are so very welcoming and charming. this video was really fantastic Mr. Mark !

I love you. I'm Vietnamese, Thanks for visitng my Saigon City.
I was in HCMC last month (July). I visited some of the sites in this video. I did get a chance to ride on the back of a scooter with some friends coming along on theirs. It was really an adventurous experience for someone who is not into riding on scooters. I find going around the round about to be very daring and I'm happy to report that I survived it. I know where I live people would be constantly run over if they had to ride in traffic like that. Crossing the street is really like having the heart of a lion. It takes courage. But from what I heard you have to cross slowly without trying to walk fast that way they go around you. I just think they should make it a little bit easier to visit Vietnam without all those issues getting a visa. I read that the U.S. government complained about the changes in prices for the visa fee. It can vary depending where you get it. The price is not consistent. I think Vietnam would do its tourism a big favor if they do like Thailand and just allow people to show up and give them 21 days right off the bat. It's easy to visit a place if you don't have to worry about time lines and other issues like you can't show up before the visa date stated. When I was in Indonesia a volcano erupted and my travel agency sent me an e-mail because I had to go to Bali. I was thinking of maybe flying directly to Vietnam instead of Bali. But my visa for Vietnam only allowed me entry from a specific date. If I were going to Thailand (which I did in July also) arrival date would never be an issue. Someone ought to tell those legislators in Hanoi to change the law regarding visa entry for Americans.
I visited Vietnam last year from November-December. Saigon is the city that my mom, my second older sister and I stayed the longest when we're in Vietnam. (more than 6 days) :) Everywhere else was 2-4 days.
What a great video! I am making my first trip to Vietnam in October and trying to take a look at everything I can find. This is the best by far. And thanks for the free download books.
This is awesome. Great preparation for my trip. You do a really good presentation too. You seem so happy and friendly - a real plus as a presenter. Thank you also for your free booklet. Not much is free in this life. You are very kind, and I will definitely make a donation. Good job!
Mark and Ying, Really enjoyed this video. Loved the architecture of the buildings and the history- thanks for filming. I am a history buff! Did not realize Vietnam was so beautiful. Thank you. Thank you. :)
I just got back from HCM and Hanoi. The traffic on the street is really crazy there. Crossing the road and riding on a grab were the experience I'll never forget. Food was delicious though!
Been here 4 times and I just love the place! So much to see, eat and do! Have visited most of the places you reviewed and will go to the others on my next trip. Great vid man! You've really captured the atmosphere of why HCM has a special place in my heart.
thank you for your recommendations! I will be heading there this February for the first time so this was very useful there is one thing I'd like to comment and that is about the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden. Please avoid going to these areas and invest your money into donating to organisations that can rescue these poor babies. Even visiting these botanical gardens, you're still keeping that place alive. Zoos should be used for rehabilitation areas NOT for human amusement and entertainment ALONE!! It's disgusting to see these animals suffer in such a confinement and not cared for by experts.
love the way you talk about 2 last things about local market and street food, so true!! thanks for your great video, hope you have great time in sai gon ..
Nguyen Hoang Tam The comment above was only meant the traffic in Saigon is too busy and looks dangerous for tourists just trying to cross the streets, they are afraid get hit and killed (by motorbikes or cars). They said nothing about Vietnamese people dear!
been there only for two days, just only visited the Behn Tahn Market and the park, as most locals dont speak English, so thank you for this videos.... its a reason for me to get back after this pandemic..... YES INDEED, THEIR FOOD IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE... ty Mark Weins for this Vlog..... SEE YOU SOON HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAM
i love the way you presented your video, simple and yet very informative, thank you for sharing your travel experience, now i have an idea on what place to visit there.
Great overview over the city! :) I wish there would be more videos like this about whole Vietnam. I have one question: is it possible to walk the main attractions by foot?
Hey Mark. I've watched parts of this before but I watched the whole vid tonight and it's outstanding. You did a great job with this. You can really get around !!
Hi Mark, thank you for sharing your video , We are going to Ho CHi Minh next week so it's the first time for us to visit Vietnam, we are so excited!!!!
ALERTS / TRAPS IN VIETNAM HCMC / SAIGON!! Great video! Watches like a legitimate documentary. Very informative. I am visiting VN next month and I will visit these recommended places. Thank you.
Yes I found an informative and very detailed video about Ho Chi Minh's best places to visit. I can use this in my trip to this place soon. Thanks a lot!
Mark, this video is so in-depth and I love your commentary and info about each location. You really absorb where you are and present it wonderfully. We just don’t deserve you Mark, you are that good!!
I had a bit of a stink eye towards vietnam because they were a communist north that invaded the south, meanwhile the whole point of the revolution against the french was to free the country, not split it in 2. They were communist because the communists werre the only ones to help, for their own selfish gains, and to use vietnam as a show of force to scare the west and capitalists and a battlefield they could fight on outside their own country. Meanwhile, vietnam was never meant to be communist. Ho Chi Min wasnt a 'communist'he was a man who wanted his country and his people free from the torturous colonialists, he did what he had to, and as far as communists were in that time, he was the best example, he should've been 'our' communist (though he was really a socialist more than a communist) He wasnt like the chinese and ussr communists, he was different, a decent guy that truly impressed me with his back story. Live long Vietnam, the memory Ho Chi Mihn left is truly an honourable one.
I live in Vietnam with my Vietnamese wife for approximately 10 ,I started youtube channel , got the idea from watching your channel but only in Vietnam and Thailand
Thanks for the E-book and the guide into Saigon. You should go to Hong Kong and make a video of things to do in Hong Kong. I've always wanted to go and I think you would do a magnificent job of showing around Hong Kong.
Nice video - thanks for sharing this amazing city :) Vietnam has come along way and im impressed with what i saw on this clip :) - well done and good luck with your travels :)
Warnings if you want to visit Vietnam 1: it is extremely hot and boiling 2: there are motorbikes everywhere 3: be careful if your belongings pick pockets are common 4: make sure you don't annoy the dogs they are usually mutual but they pack a punch in their bite even if they are small 5: this is uncommon in the busy areas but watch out for rats they are huge Apart from that hope you enjoy any visits to Vietnam Dragon out
+Nguyen Hoai Nam Uneducated you say? When your response has numerous grammatical errors and semi-sentences? It's common sense to double check your own reply before judging someone else's erroneous comment. I understand that you're defending Vietnam, which may be your home country. But this way of defending something you love and care about, isn't the best way to do it. There are alternative, better ways to handle these types of situations. I love Vietnamese food and I'd love to visit Vietnam one day. Hey man, take it easy and know that there are millions of us that would love to visit and experience your fantastic culture! :)
DragonTamer2005 Good advice! For great time in HCMC avoid every single advise in this video. Go walk, wonder around, meet a boy, meet a girl. Don't waste your time visiting some office tower lol
DragonTamer2005 most dogs you see will be a stray and yes the rats are frickin huge I went to Vietnam last year and me and my mum were walking and out of nowhere a rat came out of a drainage pipe like what the frick also if your going here then go to a store called lotte mart if you go by it then adventure it’s nice and cool inside also on the top floor there’s an arcade so yeah
Thank you Mark for this! You covered the colonialism remains, would be cool to focus on Vietnam and its precolonial heritage as well. Still, good job, will definitely use that knowledge on my trip! :)
Helpful video! I’ll be in Vietnam in 5 days and this video made me more excited to see Saigon!

Fun facts: Ho Chi Minh real name was Nguyễn Sinh Cung and Ho Chi Minh city was formerly known as Saigon. The country's biggest city (Saigon) was found by general Nguyễn Hữu Cảnh in 1698. During the Vietnam's War, in ordering to receive aid from China to invade Sai Gon, Nguyễn Sinh Cung changed his birth name to Ho Chi Minh and the last name "Ho" was originated from China. Sadly, Ho Chi Minh never changed his adopted Chinese name back to his real Vietnamese name (Nguyễn Sinh Cung). Moreover, after the The Fall of Saigon, this hundred years old city was also renamed to Ho Chi Minh city by the Vietnamese Communist government. For thousand of years, since the Vietnamese history has recorded that the country had suffered countless number of invasions from China, and the country's biggest city is named after a Chinese last name, this makes many Vietnamese people feel insulted. To be fair, Vietnamese people have all the rights to upset when people call Saigon as Ho Chi Minh city when in the past, the present, and the future, Vietnamese people are always in the state of defending themselves against the big bully China when this country never stop causing all kinds of damages in terms of real wars and economic war to Vietnam in order to gain complete control over the country.
you never learned 4th grade history, have you? Ho Quy Ly was the emperor from 1400-1402, basic knowledge.

-China's province of Zhejiang around the 940s was the origin of the Chinese Hồ/Hú family (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H%E1%BB%93_dynasty). Since you learned 4th grade history, then prove that source wrong if you can .
Wrong basic knowledge. Saigon and Hochiminh City are not the same. Hochiminh City is the new administrative unit including Saigon (district 1,2,3,4) + Cho Lon (district 5,6,11 aka "China town") + Gia Dinh (district Phu Nhuan, Tan Binh, Thu Duc, Nha Be, Hoc Mon). Please stop talking about politics, totally unrelated to this video. Stop expressing your ignorance & stupidity.
