Hey Capt. Thanks for the info! I've been looking for a good way to repeatably create globes for shift knobs as I think that these would do well at street fairs. This looks like it would fit the bill. On a different note, I am still having a great deal of trouble cutting end grain smoothly. My only tools to do this at this point are a 1/4 by1/4 scraper and your 3/8 round carbide. What would you suggest as my next move?
If instead of setting the cutter inline with the swing arm you set it about 45° toward the headstock you will then be able to part the sphere off with your final clean up pass.
Hi Cap. I love those cutters I got from you ( & the Mrs.) I made a sphere jig a few years ago and it works very well. I've been wanting to make or buy a jig for the inside of the sphere. I recently found a video by Brian Mills that covers the whole process, inside and out. I guess he used to sell the jig but not anymore. Any suggestions on how to make the interior jig ?
Hey did you ever figure out how to make the complete ball with that jig it will do it you just have to start with the horizontal in a different position then you can finish the ball complete i used to do it on a steel lathe keep up the good work mate cheers
Great vid Eddie :) But there is a better mouse trap out there. The basis is there and I thank you for sharing the concept. As a machinist I believe I can swing one that will alleviate the problems you have encountered, for about $50 (not counting my time of course)
capt buena herramienta y un poco cara y un desperdicio de madera me gusta mas el metodo tradicional aunque hay varios, pero a la herramienta yo le doy un seis. un saludo capt veo tus vídeos y me gustan mucho.
I agree with you. Carter company have some instruction videos about this tool and they BLOCK comments on these videos. It is clear they have something to hide and dont want people to share their poor experiences. This movie convinced me that I will not buy Carter Perfect Sphere. It is to expensive, to slow to use and Carter company is not honest with customers (by blocking comments).
