If you're unwilling to pay the staff which maintained the critical infrastructure. Of the maintenance of the aircraft. While you're making high profit it's justified.

To think that under the previous West Jet leadership of Clive Beddoe, the company was one of the most admired, with dedicated employees, faithful customers, and decent profitable company. And now this since acquired by Kestrel Bidco Inc, a cowered president that avoids answering questions truthfully, has made the employees looking to unionized, etc. all in the name of squeezing more money and cutting costs. The only thing the AMEs want is salary comparable to what mechanics make in the USA and in Europe.

No way we can compare with America or Europe on salary. If you want that specific salary move to that country. Then account for housing and food and fuel cost.

Maybe treat and pay your workers properly, and listen when they say something is wrong and needs to be fixed. Companies are 99% of the time in the wrong on this stuff, and this time is no different

No... I see two guys who don't even have Canadian accents. The don't know how it works in canada. I suspect their resumes from whatever country they came from were padded. There's probably a lot of nepotism at the top. And the minister took one look at it and said "we'll put it in front of an arbitrator" and 6 months from now that arbitrator is going to rule 100% in favor of the union.

If Westjet is unhappy w/ the union, maybe they should file a complaint w/ the CTA. The problem should be resolved in about 5 years. It’s pretty rich that Westjet denies responsibility for all problems, whether w/ customers or the union. Maybe just run your business better?

Westjet cancelled my flight 3 hours before flying at Christmastime. Just got an email that said, we've booked you on tomorrow's flight. Ummm...how about NO. Booked Air Canada and was on my way but it was enough to make me never book with Westjet again. I learned my lesson then and feel terrible for the passengers who are trying to find a way to their destination. It will cost Westjet way more in lost revenue than it would have been to just give the workers a raise. Maybe cut the salary of these guys to pay for it? Just a thought.

Westjet brought this on themselves. That was a lawful strike they characterized as unlawful. That supposed “mandated arbitration” was not lawful! CIRB confirmed twice during negotiations that it was legitimate. The parties were apart by $6m which is peanuts for this airline. This was all about ego and maintaining their crap precedent of keeping AME wages grossly low. Shame on the labor minister Seamus and Shame on Westjet / Onex!

Westjet mechanics currently make between 109,000 to 170,000 a year. This is pure greed from the union and its members.

WestJet was able to make agreements with pilots (higher paid, higher skilled than mechanics) without such disruption. If the pilots can make a deal, why not mechanics?
