This was my stall, Harris' Trouser Bars, I was gutted they cut it, they filmed a second scene too. And yes it is based on Phil's stall. We had an Ace day when they filmed it. Check the other traders aren't extras, they are the stall holders!
I love the way he still has the recording mic with him, even if hes going to buy some new jeans, its almost like he might discover a new sound on the way..
I think as far as getting the intentions of the film makers, you've nailed it. I guess this is how they wanted to show the world what an exceptional person Martin Hannett was.
The guy on the stall may have been loosely based on Phil Saxe who was the Mondays first manager. He ran a stall called Gangway and sold flares to skallys and Perry Boys.
It says in the credits that this actually IS Phil Saxe doing a little cameo here. Not that I've ever met him so I wouldn't swear it is him. But yeah, he used to have a stall in the basement of the old Arndale, yo it says in all the books. Anyway, cool scene, because he appears to be so typically Mancunian.
Andy Serkis is quite Smeagle in this clip. Certain faces. It’s brilliant shouldn’t have been cut. Carrying the mic all the time just in case any new sounds or noises are made
Just found this,.... It's a Cult Classic Out-take of a Cult Classic: Priceless: btw does anyone know where I can get some 23" Flares?,,,.... just askin'?
I was never a fan of the 23 inchers, in fact I used to piss myself laughing at the lads wearing them who’d soak up half the piss lying on the floor of the Hacienda bogs when they walked in….
